Vol343.日常英语学习Habits Make or Break You

from 英语大师-EnglishMaster

Hello everyone, and welcome back to another English podcast!Today, we have a very interesting topic that many people think about, but not everyone likes to talk about. The topic is: Your bad habits are destroying your future. Many people want success. They want more money, a better life, and more opportunities. But sometimes, the biggest problem is not outside—sometimes, the biggest problem is our daily habits.Today, I invited a very special guest. He is a successful entrepreneur who has built several businesses over many years. He has also worked with many professionals, employees, and young entrepreneurs, so he has seen many different lifestyles and habits. Today, he will share his experiences about how small bad habits can slowly destroy a person's future, and also what people can do to change their lives.Thank you very much for joining us today!Thank you very much for inviting me. I am very happy to be here because this is a topic that I believe is extremely important. Many people talk about success, motivation, and money, but very, very few people talk honestly about the small habits that silently destroy people's potential. In my experience as an entrepreneur, I have worked with hundreds of people. Some were very intelligent, very talented, and very creative. But unfortunately, many of them never reached their potential. And the reason was not a lack of intelligence or a lack of opportunity. The real reason was their daily habits. What people do every day slowly shapes their future. The problem is that most bad habits do not look dangerous at first. They feel comfortable; they feel harmless. But over time, they become a powerful force that pushes your life in the wrong direction. For example, imagine someone who says, "I will start tomorrow." One day of procrastination does not seem like a big problem. But when tomorrow becomes next week, and next week becomes next month, suddenly a year has passed and nothing has changed. This is how bad habits work: they are small in the beginning, but their consequences grow over time. That is very interesting. Many people think their problems are big events, like losing a job or failing a project. But you are saying the real problem often starts with small daily habits.Exactly. Most people think success or failure happens in one big moment, but that is not true. Success and failure are usually the result of thousands of small decisions.Let me give you an example from my early career. When I was younger, I worked with two colleagues in the same company. Both of them were intelligent and had good opportunities, but their habits were very different. The first person had a habit of learning something new every day. He read books, listened to educational podcasts, and always asked questions. He was curious about business, technology, and personal development. The second person had a different habit. After work, he spent many hours watching random videos online, scrolling on social media, and complaining about his job. Both of them started in the same position. But five years later, their lives were completely different. The first person became a manager and later started his own company. The second person stayed in the same position and felt frustrated about his life. The difference was not intelligence; it was daily habits. That is a powerful example, because many people can recognize themselves in those situations.Yes, and this is something I see again and again. People underestimate the power of small actions repeated every day. There is a simple principle I like to share: Your habits are building your future, whether you realize it or not. Every day, you are either improving your life or slowly damaging it.For example, if someone spends two hours every day learning a skill, reading, or improving their knowledge, that person will become much stronger in 5 years. But if someone spends two hours every day doing nothing useful, those hours disappear forever.People often say they don't have time. But when we look carefully, we usually discover that time is not the problem. The real problem is how people use their time. That reminds me of something many students say. They say they want to learn English or start a project, but they feel tired or distracted after work. That is a very common situation, and it is closely related to modern habits. Today, we live in a world full of distractions: phones, social media, endless videos, constant notifications. These things are designed to capture your attention, and the more time people spend in these distractions, the less energy they have for meaningful activities. For example, imagine a person who comes home after work and says, "I will relax for 10 minutes and check my phone."10 minutes become 30 minutes.30 minutes become 2 hours.Suddenly, the evening is gone. Now imagine this happens every day:2 hours per day is 14 hours per week.14 hours per week is more than 700 hours per year.700 hours per year is enough time to learn a new language, develop a professional skill, or even start a small business! But most people never realize how much time disappears because of a small habit. That is a very powerful way to think about it. When you calculate the time like that, it becomes very clear how habits shape the future.Exactly. Time is the most valuable resource we have. Money can be recovered, opportunities can appear again, but time only moves forward. One of the biggest mistakes I see in young professionals is believing they have unlimited time. They think, "I will start improving my life later." But "later" often becomes "never." And this is why habits are so important.Habits are like the direction of a ship. If the direction is slightly wrong, the ship will slowly move far away from its destination. At first, the difference looks small, but after many years, the difference becomes enormous.Another bad habit that destroys many futures is procrastination. Procrastination means delaying important tasks even when you know they are important. People often procrastinate because they feel uncomfortable starting difficult work. Instead, they choose easier activities that give quick pleasure.
