    Vol337.日常英语学习Should I Quit My Job?

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Dad, I really need to talk to you. And I don't want to hide anything this time.I've been feeling this for a long time. But I keep telling myself that it was normal, that it would pass, that I just needed to be stronger. But now I feel different. I feel tired in a way that sleep doesn't fix. And I think I'm reaching a limit.Sit down, son. Take your time. I can see something is heavy on your mind. And I want to understand everything. What's going on?I think I want to quit my job. But I'm also afraid of doing it.Okay. Start from the beginning. Tell me what your normal day looks like. I want to see your life through your eyes. All right. My day starts before the sun comes up. I wake up around 5:30, sometimes even earlier. And the first thing I feel is pressure. Not motivation. Not energy.Pressure.I check my phone, and I already have emails, messages, and tasks waiting for me.Before I even leave my bed, my mind is already working. Then I rush to get ready. I don't eat properly most days, and I go to work thinking about everything I have to do.When I arrive, it doesn't stop. It's like entering a machine that never slows down.Emails come non-stop. Meetings start one after another, and every task feels urgent, like everything is a priority at the same time. The problem is not just the amount of work. It's how it is managed. There's no clear system. Sometimes I start a task, and suddenly my boss gives me another one and says, "It's more important."Then another person comes and asks for something urgent too.So I end up doing many things at the same time. But I don't feel like I finish anything properly. That sounds chaotic.Do they give you clear instructions? Not always. Many times I have to guess what they want. And if I make a mistake, they don't say, "Let's fix it."They say, "Why did you do it wrong?"Like I should already know everything.Tell me more about your boss. This is important. He's very demanding. And I understand that part. But he doesn't recognize effort. If you do ten things well and one thing wrong, he only talks about the mistake. And when he's stressed, he talks in a way that makes you feel small, like nothing you do is enough.

    Vol336.日常英语学习Talking About Places in English

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Scene 1: Looking for the KeysHoney, I'm looking for my keys. Did you see them anywhere?I'm not sure. Are they somewhere in the kitchen? No, I already looked everywhere in there. What about the TV room? I saw them somewhere on the couch yesterday.I checked there, too. They're nowhere in the usual spots. Why don't you check the dresser? That's where you always leave things.Oh, yeah, I remember now. That's where I left them. Thanks, honey.Scene 2: The Missing ContractDid anyone see the contract I was working on?No, I didn't see it anywhere on your desk.I'm searching everywhere, but it's not here.Did you leave it somewhere in the meeting room? That's possible. Let me go there and check.Do you think you left it there?I think so. He always leaves his things everywhere. You're right.I'm sorry for interrupting your meeting. I left a file here. Thank you.Did you find it?Yes, it was there. Some people were having a meeting. I had to interrupt them, but I found it.Scene 3: Vacation PlansI'm so excited. My vacation starts in 2 days.Where are you going this summer?I'm not sure yet. I'm thinking about going somewhere in Europe, but I'm not sure where. That sounds amazing. Last year, I was traveling through Italy for 2 weeks.Really? Did you enjoy it? I'm looking for somewhere with good food and history.Italy is perfect for that. There's incredible food everywhere you go.I'll have a look at that. Are you planning to go anywhere this year?I'm going somewhere completely different this time. I'm going to book a beach resort in Thailand.Wow. That's a big change. Why Thailand?I want to go somewhere in Asia. That sounds nice, but I want to avoid anywhere too touristy.Smart choice. Tourists are everywhere in the popular cities.Exactly. I want to go somewhere with less tourists. I'll search for somewhere in the countryside. That's a good idea.Scene 4: Valentine's Day PlansHey Mike, Valentine's Day is coming up fast. Are you taking Sarah anywhere special this year?I'm planning something, but I'm not finding anywhere good to take her. Everywhere nice is already booked.Tell me about it. I was calling restaurants somewhere downtown yesterday, and they're all full.Where are you taking Linda? You always find somewhere romantic.Well, everywhere is already booked, so I'm not going anywhere. This year, I'm cooking dinner for her. That sounds great. Well, I can't cook, so I hope to find somewhere nice to take her.I'm sure you will.Scene 5: Hotel Check-in Mix-upHi, good evening. I'm checking in. My name is Anderson.Good evening, Mr. Anderson. Let me find your reservation.Thanks. I booked somewhere on your website last month.Sure. Hmm, I'm not seeing it anywhere in the system. What date did you book?January 15th. The confirmation is somewhere in my email. Let me check. Please do. I'm searching everywhere, but nothing appears. Here it is. It says I'm staying here for three nights.Sir, this reservation is not for this hotel. You booked the Grand Plaza Hotel. We're the Grand Park Hotel. This hotel is on the other side of town.Oh, that's true. I'm so sorry. But I'm not going anywhere tonight. I'm exhausted. Do you have any rooms available?Yes, we do.I'll stay here for one night then.No problem.

    Vol335.日常英语学习The Hidden Cost of Technology

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Hello and welcome. This episode might make some people uncomfortable. And that's okay.Today we're talking about technology. Not just phones, apps, or social media, but how technology has changed our lives, our minds, and our behavior.Technology has helped us in many ways, but it has also taken more control than we'd like to admit.I'm here with someone who knows this world from the inside. He's a former executive from one of the biggest technology companies in the world.Thank you for being here and for being willing to speak openly.Thank you for inviting me.And I want to be honest from the beginning. I loved technology. I still do in many ways. But after years inside that system, I started seeing things that made me uncomfortable. Things people need to understand.Okay, let's start simple. When you look at our lives today, how has technology changed us?Technology has changed everything. The way we work, the way we communicate, the way we think, and even the way we feel.We can talk to anyone in the world in seconds. We can learn almost anything for free. That is powerful. That is beautiful. But at the same time, technology changed our relationship with time and attention. We are faster, but also more distracted. We are connected, but often more lonely.Technology didn't just enter our lives. It slowly became the center of them. And that's true. Many people don't even remember how life felt before constant notifications. And we need to be fair.Technology has helped millions of people. It created jobs.It gave voices to people who had none.It allowed education to reach places it never reached before. From a business perspective, technology solved real problems.I saw doctors saving lives using technology.I saw small businesses growing thanks to the internet. These things matter.Technology itself is not evil.I agree. Many of us are here learning, working, and connecting because of technology. But here is where things get complicated. When something helps you too much, you kind of stop using your own skills. We stopped remembering phone numbers. We stopped being bored. We stopped being alone with our thoughts.Inside big tech companies, we talked a lot about engagement. Not happiness. Not well-being.

    Vol334.日常英语学习Context and Idioms

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Hello everyone and welcome back to our podcast. I am your host River. And I am Emma.Today, we are excited to explore some engaging English expressions and useful vocabulary that will enrich your language skills. That is right. We will go beyond traditional textbook explanations and examine how native speakers actually use these expressions in everyday conversations.Precisely. You will hear authentic, natural English as it is spoken in real life. So, we are going to watch a short movie clip and then break it down together.Exactly. We will play the clip, highlight the key English expressions and vocabulary used by the characters, and explain how native speakers naturally employ them in real-life situations. This way, you will not only learn the phrases, but also understand the context and intonation behind them. Shall we begin?"Where have you been all these years?"Character 1: I've got to start with a question that is on everyone's mind. Where have you been all these years?Character 2: Well, it's a complicated story. I was a research scientist studying genetic sequencing when one of my experiments went wrong.Welcome back, friends. The key expression we are focusing on today is "Where have you been all these years?"This is a natural and emotionally expressive question used when someone reappears after a long absence. It conveys surprise, curiosity, and sometimes relief or mild reproach. Native speakers use it when reconnecting with old friends, family members, or acquaintances after many years. For example: "Wow, Jenny, where have you been all these years? I haven't seen you since high school."For example: "Where have you been all these years, man? We've missed you at our reunions.""Get" (e.g., Get a road manager)Character 1: Eh, I thought he looked puffy. Did they blow dry his fur? This is why I've been saying he needs a full-time road manager.Character 2: Uh-huh, let me guess. You're putting yourself up for the job.Character 1: Naturally. I've got an eye for showbiz, the glitz, the glamour.Character 2: Maybe he should get a road manager who doesn't have fleas.Character 1: Hey.Welcome back, friends. "Get a road manager." Let's learn how native people use "get" in everyday English."Get a road manager" means hire or find someone to do that job. In this case, it's said in a funny way because of the fleas comment.Yes, native people use "get" in many casual ways. For example: "I need to get a new phone."For example: "They decided to get a tour guide for their trip."(Clip excerpt)Character: ...for days. You're going to pardon. You're going to pardon. You're going to pardon. Hey, YOU'RE GOING TO PARDON. YOU GOT A JET. YOU GOT A JET. YOU GOT A JET.Character: OH, SHUT UP.Character: YOU GET A BOOK. You get a book. And you get a book.Character: Yeah. Tell me about it."Look on the bright side"Character 1: I grew up assuming my parents would be together forever. But that sure didn't happen.Character 2: Maybe the problem is expecting too much from other people.Character 1: I don't know. I just thought things would finally be normal, but they're not. Suddenly he's famous and everybody wants something from him.Character 2: Look on the bright side. People love your dad. He makes them happy.Welcome back, friends. Did you notice "look on the bright side"? What does it mean?Yes, it means to focus on the positive aspect of a situation instead of the negative. For example: "I lost my job, but look on the bright side, I can finally start my own business."For example: "The weather is rainy, but look on the bright side, the plants need water."Do you always see the bright side?Character: Bright side? You can start running with that again. You're fine. Ding. This is your stop. See you later."Pathetic"Character 1: Hey, Emma. I was thinking well, maybe we could go to the movies sometime. Like on a date or whatever. Ah, I'm pathetic.Friends, welcome you back. Did you notice the word pathetic at the end? Let's break it down.Yes, pathetic means sad, weak, or deserving pity. In this clip, the character says it about himself because he feels embarrassed after failing to ask Emma out smoothly. For example: "I forgot my lines on stage. I felt so pathetic." It means he felt embarrassed and useless about himself. For example: "He gave up after one try. That's just pathetic." It means that behavior is weak and disappointing.Character 1: They fed you.Character 2: You make me sound pathetic.Character 1: You were pretty pathetic in the Fenders veggie.Character 2: Fender's Frost collection is pathetic. Well, no, it's beautiful. I'm pathetic. You get it.Character 1: I get it. I'm...

    Vol333.日常英语学习Chasing Value Not Money

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Welcome to today's podcast. Today's episode is very special. Because we're not talking about theory or motivation quotes. We're talking about a real story. A story about struggle, mistakes, fear, sacrifice, and growth.Today, I'm sitting with someone who became a millionaire. But not because he was lucky. Not because he was born rich. And not because things were easy. Thank you so much for being here. To start, I want to ask you something simple, but very important. Who are you? And where did your story begin?Thank you for having me. My story began in a place most people don't imagine when they hear the word millionaire. I was born in a very poor neighborhood. Not "we had little money" poor, but real poverty. Sometimes there was no food in the house. Sometimes the electricity was cut. I shared one small room with my brothers. And my parents were always worried. I remember my mother crying quietly at night, thinking we were asleep. That kind of childhood stays with you. It shapes the way you see the world. When I was a kid, I didn't dream about being rich. I dreamed about stability. About not being afraid of tomorrow. About opening the fridge and knowing there will be food. Those dreams were simple but very powerful. They became the fuel that pushed me forward later in life. That sounds very hard. When did you start working?Very early. I was around 12 years old when I got my first informal job. I cleaned shoes, carried bags, helped people at the market. I didn't do it because I wanted extra money for fun. I did it because my family needed it.While other kids played, I learned responsibility. While others complained about homework, I learned how tiring real work can be. But here is something important: working early didn't make me successful. It made me tired. What changed my life was not working more, but thinking differently later.Did you study at the university?Yes. But not in the way people imagine. I entered university with hope, but also fear. I didn't understand many things. I felt inferior. Many students came from better families, better schools, and had connections.I failed exams. I repeated classes. At one point, I almost quit. I remember sitting alone thinking, "Maybe this life is not for me." And here is the truth many people don't like to hear: I failed many times. I was not special. I was not the best student. I was just stubborn enough to continue. When did you start making money on your own?Not fast. And not successfully at first. My first business failed completely. I lost money I didn't really have. I borrowed from friends. Some supported me; others laughed. I remember one person saying, "You should stop dreaming. This is not for people like us." That sentence hurt deeply. But it also stayed in my mind every time I wanted to quit. I tried again and again. Some small successes came, but they disappeared quickly because I didn't know how to manage money. Nobody teaches you that when you're poor. You think money will save you. But if you don't respect it, it leaves. Was there a moment that changed everything?Yes. One moment. I was exhausted, broke again, and emotionally empty. I met a man much older than me. He was not rich, but he was calm. He asked me one question:"Do you want money, or do you want skills?"That question hit me hard. I realized I was chasing money, not value. From that day, I focused on learning sales, communication, leadership, and problem-solving. I read books slowly, many times. I listened more than I spoke. I stopped trying to look successful and started trying to be useful. What did you have to sacrifice?A lot. Friends, comfort, nights out, sometimes family time. Not because I didn't love them, but because I had to choose. Many people don't talk about this part. Success is lonely before it is visible. There were years where nobody believed in me. People only see the results, not the silence. I missed birthdays. I worked weekends. I said no many times, and every "no" hurt, but it built discipline. And discipline changed my life more than motivation ever did. When did things finally work?Slowly. Very slowly. One project worked better than expected. Then another. Then I learned how to reinvest, not spend. I learned how to build teams, not to do everything alone. Money came as a result, not as a goal. The day I realized I was a millionaire was not exciting. I didn't celebrate. I just sat quietly and remembered where I came from. I thought about my mother, about the fridge, about fear, and I felt peace, not happiness. What advice would you give to someone listening right now?Stop comparing your chapter one to someone else's chapter 20.Understand that money is not the goal. Freedom is.

    Vol331.日常英语学习Native Speed Listening Challenge

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Hello, my name is Eevee and this is a video at native speed English to help you practice your listening comprehension. Feels funny to say that at normal speed, but this is the 100,000 subscriber special. So, I thought maybe I should mix it up a little bit. This is going to be eight minutes of me speaking at native speed. I would love to know how much you can understand. So, watch the whole thing and comment down below if you could understand me or not.I am making this video because I am about to hit 100,000 subscribers. I'm about 1,000 away right now, but I wanted this video to be filmed and ready so that I could upload it for when I hit 100K, because that is so freaking cool.I've been running my channel now for about 4 months. I think it's actually 4 months today since my first upload. And this is the exact beach that I filmed in my very, very first vlog. I was so nervous in that video. My voice was shaking and I had to keep retaking the video because I was so scared. And that was just four months ago. So, it feels pretty cool to be here now, and hopefully I come across a little bit more relaxed.Speaking to Advanced Learners vs. Native SpeakersIn this video, I wanted to talk about a couple of things:The difference between how I speak to an advanced English learner and how I speak to a native. The future of this channel. The first thing I wanted to talk about was the difference between the way I speak to an advanced English learner and the way I speak to a native, because these are actually two different things. When I speak to an advanced English speaker—like even somebody who's C1 or C2, they're basically fluent and can work in English—I do still change my language. Even when I've made friends with people from other countries, my English is completely different compared to how I would speak with a native speaker. The Key DifferencesVocabulary Choice: The main difference is not necessarily the speed, but the words that I choose and use.Slang and Idioms: When I speak to an advanced English speaker, I will avoid really heavy slang, and I'll avoid using too many expressions or colloquialisms.Humor and Sarcasm: I avoid leaning too much into the sarcasm. For example, if I'm speaking to another Brit, I will literally be like, "Shut up." Brits are very sarcastic and very dry; we like to take the piss out of each other. Sometimes I speak to my advanced students, and they might even find this video a bit difficult because I'm speaking faster and I'm using more specific words and phrases. The Challenge of Socializing Abroad & The Reality TV SolutionI don't know if any of you have moved abroad at some point in your life to an English-speaking country, because I think this is one of the main times that people really feel that difference between an advanced English speaker and a native speaker. In particular, if you make friends with natives, it's fine when you're one-on-one. But the minute that you end up going into a bar, a group, or a big social event where there are lots of natives who are speaking to each other, that's actually when a lot of people find that their listening comprehension drops a lot, even though they are super advanced speakers (B2/C1).The biggest problem there is a lack of cultural understanding. You need to understand the jokes, the culture, and the background of the country that you're in order to pick up on the jokes, the intonation, and the kind of banter that goes back and forth between people. I think the UK is particularly bad for this because we're very dry and sarcastic. My Advice for Advanced LearnersIf you struggle with this, or if you are an advanced speaker and my regular videos are too slow or you want something more challenging, you need to watch reality TV.I know it's not for everyone, and people don't always enjoy reality TV like dating shows. But they are so important to watch because that is one of the only times that you will hear natives speaking to each other—particularly in these small-talky, getting-to-know-each-other contexts—without having their language changed at all.How to watch: Watch reality TV with no subtitles. If there's a word or a phrase that you don't get, then just turn them on.If you want to be conversational and make friends in English, watch reality TV to get from that advanced level to that native-level banter. Once you're comfortable with that, then start watching comedies. That will give you the cultural understanding, and if you can get the joke, you're going to be fine.Channel Reflection and the Philosophy of ImmersionIt's now been about six minutes, so I want to talk a little bit for the last couple of minutes here just to reflect on my channel and everything that's gone on in the last few months.I started this back in January because I noticed that a lot of videos that help you learn English are very educational. By that I mean—and there's nothing wrong with this—they do a lot of stuff like, "Let's go to a supermarket and I'm going to tell you what all of these words are." That's fine and it's very useful, you need that sort of content. But I am of the opinion that if you want amazing English or to learn any language, it needs to become a part of your life. Every single morning, whatever you would normally watch in Spanish, Korean, or Portuguese, you need to be watching that in English. As soon as you start replacing all of your habits with habits in English, your fluency is going to go through the roof because your brain needs this kind of immersion.I wanted to make content that you would actually want to sit and watch after a day of work. At least for me, when I finish work, I like watching vlogs or lifestyle content. So, I tried to make content like that in English, but just for people who are learning. That was the idea behind my channel. That's why I've not done any vocabulary builder videos or anything like this; I'm trying to make native content that's accessible.

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Conversation 1Dad, you wanted to talk to me.Remember, I have to work today, so I don't have much time.Yes, I know that, but I don't know. I'm not sure I can tell you this.Well, you will have to hurry up because I will be late for a meeting. Come on.That's the thing. You're always busy. It's Sunday, but you have to work anyway.I can't believe you're telling me this. You perfectly know why I have to work hard.I know that. I mean, I thought I knew, but I don't anymore. Why?How do you think we can pay for all these things? This luxury house, the new car, the school. It costs a lot of money. We have talked about this topic many times. Don't you remember?Yeah, I know we have a lot of things. We have money. In fact, I think we have too much money. And that's the thing. Why don't we go on vacation together as a family? We do that. We go on vacation once a year, usually in December. No, I mean, why don't we just go together as a family? When we travel, you work anyway.I think you don't understand. I will explain it to you. Pay attention.Your dad hasn't always been a rich man. In fact, I was really poor when I was a child.I was born in a poor family. It was a huge family. We were seven brothers and two sisters. Our house was nothing compared to this one.We lived in a very small and poor house. It was an old house. The walls were made of wood, and the ceiling was falling apart. It was dangerous to live there, but we didn't have any other options since we didn't have money to move.Despite all that, your mother worked hard so we could have something to eat every day. She had to sell a lot of things: old flowers, toys, many things.Life was not easy back then. When I was your age, I had to start working. I got a job selling food on the beach. It was one of the most horrible jobs I could have. The weather was horrible, really sunny. I had to wake up at 4:00 in the morning so I could go to my boss's house to prepare the meal. So, not only did I sell the food, but I also had to prepare it early in the morning.I was hungry all the time. Hungry and tired. We used to eat only a piece of bread and some coffee for breakfast. And for lunch, just a little food. It wasn't enough.I usually finished work at 10:00 or 11:00 in the evening. I arrived home very late. And I had to work every day. Believe me, that job was horrible. And like that job, I had many others. I had to work, otherwise I wouldn't eat.I also helped a mechanic. I was a carpenter. I worked as a waiter in a restaurant. I had many jobs.We didn't have money, so I had to help my mom. Difficult times. Then I decided I wanted to study something. Maybe that way I could live better. So I studied in an institute near my house. It was not very famous, but it was cheap. And I worked and studied at the same time.It was not easy, but I could make it. Three years later, I graduated. I was so happy. I was really happy.Because I thought my life was going to change, you know? Now that I graduated, I could get a good job, earn a lot of money, buy a beautiful house, get an expensive car, and travel around the world.I thought my life was going to be perfect.Unfortunately, none of that happened. I couldn't get a job. And when I got one, it was horrible, and the payment sucked. So, I decided to quit. Then I made the decision to start my own business. I made a plan, asked for a loan, invested more money, and now here we are. What I mean is, it wasn't easy. I had to work really hard to get all these things. That's why I have to work today. Because that's the only way to get good things in life. You need to understand, son. That's why I don't have much time now.I understand that. I understand you have to work to improve your lifestyle. And I really appreciate all you do for this family. But you have everything now, am I right? We have a big house, an expensive car, and I study in one of the most famous schools. And you told me you have millions of dollars in your bank account. Is that correct?Maybe I shouldn't have told you that. But yeah, you're right.Yeah, so I understand you went through difficult times, but when will it be enough for you?How much money should you have to be happy? What do you mean? We need the money to have a good life, and you know that.Yes, we need money, but you already have it.When will you start enjoying that money? You already have millions of dollars in the bank, a house, cars, apartments, savings.Don't you think it's time to enjoy life more? To spend more time with your family?I need you. I'm sure my mom misses you, too. We need you to be with us.Please, just spend more time with us. Stop working too much. I need my dad.I didn't know you felt that way. I thought I was a good father. I thought so.You are a great father, but you deserve more. It's time for you to relax and enjoy your life. It's time for us to be happy. Come on. Please, Dad.You're right, son. I have worked hard, and now it's time to relax.Let's go. We need to buy some tickets so we can go on vacation.Conversation 2Hello, Father. Finally, I could come here to visit you. Sorry for not coming sooner as I promised.Don't worry, son. You look happy to see me. That's not very common.Yeah, I know. What happened is that the advice you gave me last time I was here really worked for me.I could solve my problem, and I want to thank you. And I want to hear more.I'm so happy you could solve that problem. So, do you want to hear more life advice?Yes, Dad. You have a lot of experience since you are old.Well, maybe you're right. Soon, I will leave this world, and it's a great idea to pass on my experience and knowledge to the next generation. So, I will give you the best life advice. The number one is: stop trying to feel happy. You should strive for happiness, but trying to feel happy is a losing strategy. The truth is, you can't self-help yourself into a perfect life. And it's impossible for humans to feel happy all the time.Understanding that, and instead taking conscious actions that make your day-to-day life more joyful, is the key to true happiness. What I mean is, if you have to try to be cool, you will never be cool.Do you understand? If you have to try to be happy, then you will never be happy.People these days are just trying too hard.It is temporary. Always. So, live the moment. Those temporary moments.Another piece of advice I want you to know is: don't make impossible affirmations.Affirmations create belief traps.Standing in the mirror and saying, "I'm a gorgeous model," will only make you feel more inner turmoil because you won't believe the words you're saying.Instead of affirmations, trade up to realistic beliefs that you can accept."I look amazing for my age."What I mean is, do not exaggerate. You could think it makes you feel better, but no. Being realistic is the best option. What else?Let go of your ego.Your ego tries to protect you from looking stupid.Your ego will keep you from signing up for a dance class, playing a sport, or attending a trivia night, even when those things are good, interesting, and fun.Instead of listening to it all the time, learn when it's okay to let go of your ego and do something different.Learn to accept the essence of something.Life isn't fair, but it can still be wonderful.Sometimes, you simply can't have something in life.Maybe you can't have children. Your dream job didn't work out. Or your relationship with your brother will never be good.Instead of chasing something you can't have, accept that you can have the essence of something.People who can't have babies can adopt.People who don't have their dream career can pursue their interests as hobbies. And people with frayed family bonds can make close connections with friends instead. But there's always a way to enjoy these things. Also, you need to understand what true freedom is. It's very important.Freedom isn't having tons of money or being able to travel all the time. Of course not.Instead, freedom is having a greater ability to control your emotional state, no matter what happens in life. That's what freedom really means. So, the question for you is: are you really free?Be happy instead of right. That's probably some of the best advice I can give you.We talked about not trying to find happiness. That's true. But it's also true that one way to guarantee more happiness in your life involves choosing to be happy instead of right. You can try this the next time you're arguing with your wife, partner, brother, or friend.Ask yourself: would I rather be right or happy? That way, the argument will end peacefully. And something important: this doesn't mean you are being the bigger person, nor does it mean that you are allowing yourself to be pushed around. All it means is that you see that there's a better way.Not every situation should lead to one winner and one loser.By taking this step, you not only preserve your own happiness, but also the happiness of all involved. So, decide to put ego aside and try it.What else?Live according to your values.A lot of us don't always behave in accordance with our values.Let me explain it to you.You can value honesty, creativity, freedom, and ingenuity. But if your beliefs, actions, and lifestyle don't mirror your values, you won't be satisfied with your life.Take stock of your life and see if it matches the values you hold dear.If not, it's time to make some changes.Another thing: whatever you do, give it 100%.Seriously.Whatever you find yourself doing at work or in your personal life, do the very best you can do.To do something mediocre harms both our psyche and our prospects. It negatively impacts our credibility, lets people down, and erodes our self-esteem.So, give your work your all.Do it with excellence. Do it more efficiently. Make it more interesting. Improve it or automate it.Give care to even the smallest task. You'll stand out if you do.Many people today would rather be noticed than do something noteworthy.Choose to do something noteworthy. Getting noticed will then be a byproduct. And one example of this is when people want to learn English. They do what's necessary, but that's all. They just do what they have to do.But if you want better results, you should give 100% of your effort to obtain better results.I hope these life tips are useful to you, son.Soon I will no longer be here to help you.Don't say that. You will live many more years. So, I want more life advice, please.I would be happy to, but only if the people watching these videos like the idea.

Vol329.日常英语学习Zootopia 2- Meet Gary the Snake

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888There's a snake.Once again, there's a conspiracy in Zootopia, and it's up to Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde to uncover the truth. In today's lesson, we'll learn with some scenes where Judy meets Gary the Snake, the first snake to be seen in Zootopia in a century, and she discovers that snakes are not dangerous as she's been told. And here's the best part. You can practice them in our app by clicking the link below. Thousands of learners just like you are becoming more fluent every day and having fun while doing it. If that sounds like something that you'd like, be sure to try our method. You only need a few minutes a day to see real progress. Now, let's see Judy's first encounter with Gary.Stop. Please, you don't have to hurt him. Hurt him.Snakes never hurt anyone. We aren't the bad guys. They are. And this journal holds the secret that will prove it. I have to prove it. Please. This is our only chance to set things right. And when I do, my family will finally be able to come home.Part 2: Language Breakdown & Connected SpeechSo Gary is immediately trying to convince Judy that snakes have been misunderstood all along. Let's break down the language he uses to make his case.Snakes never hurt anyone. We aren't the bad guys. They are.In everyday English, "bad guys" means the villains, the people doing harm, breaking rules, or causing trouble. The opposite, naturally, is the good guys. It's a very casual, informal way of talking about heroes and villains. You might recognize this from Billie Eilish's hit song Bad Guy:"I'm that bad guy type. Make your mama sad type. Make your girlfriend mad tight. Might seduce your dad type. I'm the bad guy."Here, Billie playfully flips the whole idea. She's the one claiming to be the bad guy. And then Gary reveals that the Lynxley's journal is the key to Zootopia's biggest mystery. And this journal holds the secret that will prove it.When something holds a secret, it means that it contains hidden or crucial information that others don't know about. We use the verb hold because the object is keeping something inside, like a container. You could say, "This old letter holds the answer." Or, "Her expression held a secret." Listen to these other examples."This candle holds the miracle given to our family.""Use this magic to get your father back." / "I can't. Not yet." / "I don't understand. This holds a power no human can access.""I think the clock holds a clue. So, I need to get back to the garden and to Hattie."And I mentioned the real life app earlier. It really holds the secret for you to be able to speak confident natural English. Why am I so sure? Well, I've personally learned six languages and we've taught millions of English learners just like you over the last 15 years. We used our experience to build the only English app you'll ever need.If you feel too busy to dedicate enough time to studying, or you feel like you've been stuck at the same level forever, let me share with you a method to go from being a lost, insecure English learner to being a confident, natural English speaker, even if you only have 10 to 15 minutes per day.Watch a short lesson like this one with Zootopia 2. Practice the new words with smart flashcards which use science to help you remember new words forever and speak the new words in a real conversation so you feel confident using them in any situation and practice pronunciation. The great thing is we make it super easy for you to do this on the real life app. And in fact, you can use the new words you're learning in a guided speaking conversation based on this exact lesson with Zootopia 2 right now. Stop just recognizing and forgetting new words and start being able to actually speak them naturally. So try for free. Just click the link in the description. Now, I bet you get frustrated when natives speak fast and you can't understand them, right? Well, actually, the problem isn't usually about speed. It's about connected speech. That's how we natives cut, reduce, and link our words together when speaking fluently. Listen again to how Gary says "prove it".And this journal holds the secret that will prove it.So connected speech usually happens when we have content words (nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.) and function words (articles, particles, pronouns, auxiliary verbs, etc.) together. Function words link to content words or other function words and sometimes even reduce or morph. This is a simple example. Instead of saying "prove" and "it" as two separate words, we say a smooth "prove it". Prove it. Your speaking will only improve with lots of practice. So listen to Gary again and try to say that just like him.Holds the secret that will prove it.And we have another great instance of connected speech that we can practice in the clip where Gary first appears.Mayor Wind Dancer: There's a snake! There's a snake!Mayor Wind Dancer's exclamation almost sounds like just one word. First, the article "a" usually just reduces to what's called a schwa sound (uh, uh). It then links to "there's" (there's a, there's a). Let's put it all together. There's a snake. There's a snake. Now you try. Say that just like Wind Dancer.Mayor Wind Dancer: There's a snake! There's a snake! So apparently something went very wrong and that's why Gary needs a secret inside the journal. This is our only chance to set things right. What do you think it means to set things right? To fix a mistake or correct an unfair situation? To move things to the correct position? To tell the truth about something? Nice. This expression is about restoring justice after something has gone wrong. Think about the movie Encanto. Bruno spent years in the walls of the house because everyone blamed him for bad things happening. His whole journey and honestly the whole family's journey is about setting things right. Here are a couple other examples."I've got to go back and set things right.""We'll set things right."Part 3: Escaping to the HideoutGood job up to this point. Let's fast forward in the movie. Gary escapes and Judy discovers that snakes are innocent and the Lynxleys are the real villains. As Nick and Judy get closer to uncovering the mystery of how snakes were banished from Zootopia, the Lynxleys have Nick thrown in jail. However, Pawbert and Gary are able to rescue Judy just in time. This character, Pawbert, is also a Lynxley, but he's the black sheep of his family and has agreed to help Gary. A black sheep is a family member who does not fit in with the behavior and values of the rest of their family, just like Elphaba from Wicked. Now, let's check out the scene where Judy wakes up after being saved by this duo.YOU'RE NOT DEAD.Pawbert: SHE'S not dead. Sorry. Sorry, I just got my motorcycle license. But out here, no one's going to catch us. Almost to me hideout. You shall succeed, Judy Hopps. We'll stop the Lynxleys and save your partner.I'm sorry. You are...Oh, Gary. Gary the snake. Welcome to my oasis, away from my evil family.Pawbert: I like to come here just kind of veg out. Get with all my cat stuff. No, that's actually vintage. You could just not... Oh, no. No. Please don't. Wow. Mammals get the best stuff.Pawbert: Turn it off. Turn it off. Turn it off. Turn it off. Turn it off. Oh god. Sorry. Sorry. I just got my motorcycle license.Part 4: Advanced Vocabulary & IdiomsA license is an official document that gives you legal permission to do something. A driver's license lets you drive a car. A pilot's license lets you fly a plane. A fishing license lets you fish. Pawbert isn't a great motorcycle driver yet because he just got his license. Pawbert is a silly character, so he playfully says this next line.Pawbert: Almost to me hideout.Okay, did you catch that? Gary says "me hideout" instead of "my hideout". It's pirate speech. A bit like how Captain Jack Sparrow would speak. Pirates replace "my" with "me". Me ship, me treasure, me hideout. And pirates often have a hideout, a secret place to hide from people who are after them or to find tranquility. Just like Batman's Batcave. Now, let's check out some interesting grammar that Gary used.We shall succeed, Judy Hopps. We stop the Lynxleys and save your partner. In modern English, we almost always use "will" to talk about the future. We will succeed. But "shall" is an older, more formal way of expressing the same thing. We can use it when we want to sound more dramatic. Here are a couple more examples."The School of Rock... and we shall teach rock and roll.""But why they don't offer more ice with their drinks, I shall never understand.""Life's not fair, is it? You see, I... Well, I shall never be king."And next, Judy uses a really useful social expression.I'm sorry. You are...Oh, Gary. Gary the snake.

Easy English系列 油管百万订阅亿次播放的easy english系列音频限时回归 本期带来《Stop Sounding like a Textbook》获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Textbook English versus Real EnglishHey Daniel, do you want to grab something to eat later?Sure, I would like to accompany you.See, that sounds super formal. Most people would just say, "Sure, I'd love to come." Or, "Yeah, sounds good."All right, I still sound like a textbook sometimes. It happens. Yesterday, my cousin said, "I do not understand."Let me guess, native speakers say, "I don't get it."Exactly.I also learned, "I am very tired." But, people usually say, "I'm exhausted." Or, "I'm so tired."Yep. And instead of "I am going to sleep." people often say, "I'm going to sleep."Spoken English is way shorter.Definitely. Another example, textbooks teach, "How are you?" But, friends usually say, "What's up?" Or, "How's it going?"True. And instead of "Yes." people say, "Yeah."Exactly. Or, "Nope." instead of "No."I heard someone say, "I'm kind of busy." yesterday.Yeah, kind of means kind of. Native speakers shorten words all the time.Common English Mistakes Beginners MakeI was speaking English at work today and I made so many mistakes.Really? Like what?First, I said he explained me the problem.Ah, it should be he explained the problem to me.Exactly. Then I said I'm boring instead of I'm bored. That's a super common one. Boring describes something and bored describes how you feel.English is weird sometimes.True. I used to say people is instead of people are.I also mix up prepositions when I speak English. Yesterday I said I arrived to the office.Native speakers usually say arrived at the office. That's right, I know. Yesterday I was talking to a tourist and I said I'm here since 3 years.Ah, that's a common mistake.Yeah, I realized later it should be I've been here for 3 years.Exactly. English tenses can be tricky sometimes.Definitely. I also confuse say and tell.A lot of people do. Like, you tell someone something, but you say something.Right. Another problem is grammar. I still say things like, she go to work.Ah, you mean she goes to work.Yep. I notice my mistakes after I speak.Don't worry so much about mistakes. You already speak really well.Thanks. I'm just trying to sound more natural. The more conversations you have, the easier it gets.Yeah, practice really helps a lot.Stop Saying "Very": Better English WordsYour presentation was very good today. Thanks, but native speakers usually avoid saying very good.Really? What should I say instead? You can say great, excellent, or amazing.Oh, that sounds much more natural.Exactly. Instead of very tired, say exhausted. And instead of very hungry, I can say starving, right?Perfect. Stronger words make your English sound more fluent.I see. So, instead of very beautiful, I could say gorgeous.Exactly. That's how native speakers usually talk in everyday conversations. How to Introduce Yourself Naturally in EnglishHi, I don't think we've met before. I'm David.Nice to meet you, David. I'm Julia.Where are you from?I'm from Italy, but I live in London now. What about you?I'm from Canada. So, what do you do?I'm a student. I study marketing at university. That's interesting. I work as a bank clerk.Cool. How long have you been in London?About 2 years now.Do you like living here?Yeah, I really like it. London is busy, but there's always something interesting to do.

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Daniel? Is that really you? I can't believe it. It has been what? 10 years since we finished school? You look different, but I can still recognize you.Alex, wow. I didn't expect to see you here. Yes, it has been a long time. Life really changed after school, and we all went in different directions. That's how life is.So, tell me everything. What are you doing now? And what are your plans for the future? I'm very curious because everyone had different dreams back then. I remember.Well, my life is not very exciting right now, but I have some plans. First, I am going to study at the university next year because I didn't have the chance before. And I really want to improve my knowledge and have better opportunities. You are just going to study? That's it? After 10 years? I mean, that's good, but it sounds small. You should think bigger, Daniel.I understand what you mean, but for me, that's already an important step. I want to study. Also, I am going to rent a small apartment in the city center because I want to be closer to work and have my own space. I'd like that. You are going to rent? That's your plan? I'm not thinking like that. I will buy a big house in the city, and I will also buy another one in the countryside, just for weekends. That's the kind of future I want. A really big house. That sounds great for you. In my case, I'm starting step by step. Maybe later I will buy a small place, but not something big. I just want something comfortable and peaceful. You see? That's what I mean. You say you will buy something small. But why not something bigger? Why limit yourself like that? I don't get it.Because I prefer realistic goals. For example, I am going to travel to another city, just in my country. I have never traveled much. So that's something I really want to do.You are going to travel to another city? That's like a weekend plan. I will travel to different countries, and I will visit Europe and Asia. That's real travel.Yes. Maybe one day I will travel to another country, too. But for now, I'm focusing on what I can do step by step. I don't need to rush. But why think so small? You should say, "I will travel the world." Not "maybe one day."Because I don't like to promise things I'm not sure about. I prefer to say what I'm going to do with certainty, and then see what happens next. All right. What about your daily life? What are you planning to improve?Well, I am going to walk more often and take better care of my health. I also will try to have more free time because right now I work a lot and I feel tired most days. You will try? That sounds weak, man. I will change my routine completely. I will go to the gym every day and I will build a strong body. That's discipline.[laughter] Oh, great. That's good for you. For me, small changes are enough. If I improve a little every day, I think I will feel better over time. That's what I think. And what about money? Don't tell me you don't have big plans for that.Of course, I do. But again, step by step. I am going to save more money this year, and I will invest a little when I learn more about it. Investing is important. I know. That's too slow. I will create a business, and I will make a lot of money. I'm not thinking small. I'm thinking big. That's what a real man has to do.That's great if you can do it. Not everyone has the same situation or opportunities. That's just an excuse. Anyone will succeed if they think big enough and work hard.Maybe. Maybe you're right. But life is not the same for everyone. All right. Let's talk about relationships. What are your plans there? I want to know.I am going to spend more time with my family because I feel like I didn't do that enough before. And maybe in the future, I will have a partner and build something stable.Maybe? No, man. I will find the right person and I will build a strong relationship. You have to be sure about these things. That's how it works, my brother.I don't like to force things. I believe the right person will come at the right time. You are too relaxed. You say "maybe," "step by step," "small goals." Why don't you dream bigger? What's stopping you? What happened to you? It's not that I don't have dreams. It's just that my priorities are different. When I say my priorities are different, I mean my life didn't go the way I expected after school. I had plans before. Big plans like you. But things changed very fast.Really? But what do you mean? You never told anyone about that. I thought you were just taking things slowly by choice.

    Vol326.日常英语学习Can You Get the Joke?

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888If you understand native speakers when they're telling jokes, that's a sign that you have reached one of the final levels of fluency. In this video, you will improve your English fluency by learning some words and expressions in English jokes. I will tell you some jokes and you can test your fluency by whether or not you understand them. If you understand these, your English is probably quite fluent.Have you ever been in a conversation where everyone started laughing, but you had no idea what was so funny? Many jokes contain words with a double meaning and you might only know one meaning of the word. And by the way, sometimes what's funny in one culture may not be funny in another culture.Expressions Related to JokesFirst, let's learn some words and expressions related to jokes."I get it" / "I don't get it": "I get it" means I understand the joke. "I don't get it" means I don't understand it; I don't know why it's funny."It went over my head": This means I didn't understand the humor. Everybody laughed but the joke went over my head.Punchline: The last part of the joke that makes it funny. You can say, "The punchline was so unexpected that everyone laughed."To butcher a joke: To ruin the joke by telling it very badly. If you butcher a joke, you completely destroy it. Maybe you forgot some details and the joke wasn't funny anymore. To crack up: An informal way to say to laugh very hard. We say "to crack someone up." For example, "That joke cracked me up," or "The stand-up comedian cracked everyone up." If you say to a person, "You crack me up," it means "I think you're really funny.""I love responding and reading your comments. You guys crack me up with your questions.""That just cracked me up, man.""It cracked me up in the moment and it cracked me up on the rewatch."Corny: If a joke is corny, it's silly or predictable, usually in an embarrassing way. Maybe it's old-fashioned or overly sentimental. You can say, "My dad tells corny jokes."Dad joke: A dad joke is simple, clean, usually corny, predictable, and intentionally silly. They are called dad jokes because they're the types of jokes your father tells. He thinks it's funny, but others just roll their eyes and say, "That's such a dad joke."Example:"Why was the math book sad? Because it had too many problems." (In math, "problems" means exercises, but it also means difficulties in life).Word play / Play on words: A humorous use of language where a word has two meanings or two words sound similar.Joke 1: The SkeletonsJoke: Why don't skeletons fight each other? Punchline: Because they don't have the guts.Explanation: You have to know the expression to have guts in order to understand the meaning. The literal meaning of "gut" is the inside of your stomach. Skeletons don't have guts; they only have bones. But the English expression "to have guts" means to be brave, courageous, or have determination in difficult situations. Instead of saying someone is brave, you can say, "You have a lot of guts." If you say, "I don't have the guts," it means "I'm scared.""I didn't have the guts to tell my dad I was going to be an acting major. But if you're brave enough, if you have the guts and the vision and the passion...""Very few companies have the guts to do it."Joke 2: The CalendarJoke: Why was the calendar nervous? Punchline: Because its days were numbered.Explanation: A calendar literally has numbers on its days. However, this joke uses the common idiom one's days are numbered, which means something bad is going to happen soon, or something will end soon. It often means a person will die, be fired, or be replaced (e.g., "His days are numbered. He is old and sick."). It can also be used for objects (e.g., "I love my old car, but its days are numbered. It keeps breaking down.")."In fact, once stars start forming inside a nebula, its days are numbered.""To the criminal traffickers, I say your days are numbered.""I think his days are numbered. And I think that the regime's days are numbered."Joke 3: The CowsJoke: Why do cows wear bells? Punchline: Because their horns don't work.Explanation: The word horns has two meanings. It can be a horn on a car (where the verb is "to honk" to communicate with other drivers), and it also refers to the cow horns on a cow's head.Joke 4: The ScarecrowJoke: Why did the scarecrow win an award? Punchline: Because he was outstanding in his field.Explanation:Outstanding in his field means excellent at his job or profession (e.g., "She's outstanding in her field"). But it also sounds exactly like "out standing in his field"—meaning he is physically outside, standing visible in a farm field (where crops like corn or wheat grow). Because of linking, the pronunciation is exactly the same.

And we promise you that when you finish the video, you'll feel like you have improved your English.Yes, so friends, we always try to teach you English in a way that you can remember. We will use real-life examples to better understand.Yes, how native people use those words is important to know, right?Exactly. Today, we are going to work on some interesting words and expressions we collected from a movie. These will help you speak more naturally.Let's look at our first word, thunder.ThunderAre we really not going to say anything about that?Didn't you see?It was difficult. There was thunder and lightning and and rain.Welcome back friends. So, thunder, you heard it in the clip, but do you really know the meaning of thunder? If you know, write it in the comments.Well, thunder simply means the loud sound that comes after lightning during a storm. Boom, crash, rumble, that's thunder.Yes, for example, the thunder was so loud it woke up my baby.Another example could be, I love sleeping when there's thunder outside. It feels cozy.Exactly. So, thunder equals sound, lightning equals light. Don't mix them. Let's see some clips of how native people use this word in their lives.DemocracyNow friends, let's move to the next word, democracy. You pinched Piggy's specs. You need to give them back. Need to.Who says?I say. You voted me for chief.No. I didn't. They did. But they've changed their minds. That is democracy.Welcome back, friends. So, democracy. You heard it in the clip. Do you know the meaning? If you know, write it in the comments.Well, democracy simply means a system where people vote to decide something. The leader is chosen by the people, not by force.Yes. For example, we had a democracy in our classroom. Everyone voted for the class president.Another example could be my family uses democracy to decide where to eat on Friday night. Majority wins.Exactly. But look at the clip. First, he says, "You voted me for chief." Then they say they have changed their minds, and he says, "That is democracy."Right. In a democracy, people can change their minds. That's the rule. Even the chief has to accept it.Democracy.Freedom of speech. What's it called? January 6th, How I Saved Democracy.SavagesWelcome back, friends. Now, let's see savages.Well, savages is a very strong word. It means people who are wild, violent, uncivilized. Like they have no rules or manners.Yes. For example, the way they destroyed the park like savages.Another example could be my boss called the customer savages because they pushed each other to get the discount. But careful friends, this word is very insulting. You don't call someone a savage unless you want to fight.Exactly. Look at the clip. He got angry and said, "You're thieves and savages." And the other man said, "Say that again." Danger....them. They don't just like go outside and potty like savages. It's just crazy crazy....heard about the game. You, arranging a football match against a bunch of savages.Go away, Ralph. Keep to your end. This is my end and my tribe.Kneel DownDon't leave me. Kneel down.

I've made a decision. And I need you to hear me calmly. I want to leave this country. What are you saying? Leave the country? Where is this coming from? This sounds sudden. And I don't understand why you would say something like that without talking to me first. It's not sudden. I promise. I've been thinking about this for months. Maybe even years. But I was afraid to say it because I knew it would hurt you or make you angry. But I feel stuck here. And I don't see a future for myself if I stay. You don't see a future? How can you say that? You have your family here. You have a place. You have opportunities. Maybe not perfect, but they are real. Why do you think leaving everything is the solution?Because I feel like I'm not moving forward. Every day feels the same. Every opportunity feels so small. And I feel like I'm just waiting for something to change. But, nothing ever does. I want more for my life, and I don't think I can find it here. So, your solution is to run away? To leave your family, your home, everything you know, just because things are not perfect? Life is not perfect anywhere. And leaving doesn't guarantee anything.I'm not running away. I'm trying to move forward. I'm trying to take a risk. To do something different. Because staying here feels like slowly giving up on myself. And what about us? What about your family? Do we not matter in this decision? Or is this only about you and what you want?Of course, you matter. That's why this is so hard for me. If it was easy, I could have left without saying anything. But, I stayed because I care. I'm telling you now because I want you to understand me. Not because I want to hurt you.It still hurts. It feels like you're saying this place, this family, this life is not enough for you. That everything we've built means nothing. That's not what I'm saying. This is my home. You are my family. And that will never change. But I need to grow. And I feel like I can't do that here. You think I never felt like that? You think I never wanted something more? I had dreams, too. But I stayed. I worked. I built a life. That's what responsibility is.I know you sacrificed a lot. And I respect that. But I don't want to live with regrets later. Thinking about what could have been if I had tried. And what if you fail? What if you go there and nothing works? What if you end up alone? Without support. Without anything. Then I will deal with it. I would rather fail trying than stay here wondering what could have happened. You say that now. But when reality hits, it's not that simple. Being alone in another country is not easy. You don't know what you're getting into.I know it won't be easy. And I'm not expecting it to be. But staying here and feeling stuck is also not easy. I feel like I'm losing time. You really thought about this. Haven't you?Yes, every day. I go to sleep thinking about it. I wake up thinking about it, and the feeling doesn't go away. And you never thought about telling me earlier? About asking for advice? Or at least sharing this with me?I did, many times. But I was afraid you could react like this. Or that you could try to stop me before I could even explain.I'm not trying to stop you. I'm trying to understand why you think leaving is the only option.Because I need a change, a real change. Not just small adjustments. I need to feel like I'm moving, like I'm building something for myself. And what about me? What about your mother? Do you think this is easy for us to hear? That one day you just leave and everything changes?I know. I know it's not easy. It's not easy for me either. But sometimes life forces you to make difficult decisions.Or maybe you're just choosing the easy way. Leaving instead of fighting here. No, leaving is not easy. Leaving means starting from zero. Being alone. Facing everything without support. That's not easy at all. Then why do it?Because staying feels like slowly giving up. And that scares me more than leaving. So, when were you planning to do this?I didn't want to say this, but I think you need to know. What do you mean?I already made the arrangements. I already looked for a place. I already talked to people. And I already bought the ticket.You... What?I'm leaving soon. Not in a year. Not in months. In a few days. You planned everything without me? You made the decision. You prepared everything. And now you come to tell me when it's already done?I didn't want to do it like this. But I knew if I told you earlier, you would try to stop me. And I didn't want to lose this opportunity. So, you chose the opportunity over your family.No. I chose my future. And I'm hoping my family can understand that.It feels like I'm losing you. You're not losing me. I'm... I'm going somewhere else. That's the same thing. Sometimes. You know, when I was your age, I also had the chance to leave. I had an opportunity. A real one. But I said no.Why?Because I was afraid. Afraid of failing. Afraid of being alone. Afraid of losing everything I knew. So I stayed. And I told myself it was the right decision.Do you regret it?Sometimes, yes. Sometimes I wonder what my life would be if I had taken that chance. That's exactly what I'm afraid of.But I also gained something by staying. I built a family. I built a life. I had you. So it's not simple.I understand that. But I need to try. I need to know. Then promise me something. What?

    Vol323.日常英语学习Ordering American Chinese Food

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Hello everyone and welcome to English Pod. My name is Marco. My name is Katherine. And today we have a delicious lesson all about Chinese food for you. That's right. Today we are ordering Chinese food. Now for many of you listeners that are actually Chinese, you may not recognize these dishes because we are talking about American Chinese food. That's right. So long, long ago, people came over to America from mainly Hong Kong. And so a lot of the food we have is kind of more like Hong Kong food.Cantonese food.Cantonese food. But it's also very American. So let's take a listen to today's dialogue and find out exactly what we're eating.Dialogue (First Listen)Waitress: Hi, welcome to Happy Buddha. Can I get you anything to drink?Manny: Uh Coke for me, please.Andrea: I'll have a Sprite.Waitress: Okay, I'll go get that for you. Are there any questions with the menu?Andrea: Do you use MSG?Waitress: No, ma'am. We are MSG free.Manny: Oh, man. I haven't had Chinese food in so long. I want everything. This place has the best sesame chicken.Andrea: Yeah, I've been craving Chinese for such a long time. I used to get takeout all the time. It's definitely been a while. Let's start off with some crab rangoon.Manny: Oh, yeah. That sounds good. I think I'm going to get the sesame chicken with fried rice, a spring roll, and egg drop soup.Andrea: It's so tempting to order everything on the menu. It all looks so appetizing. I think I'll get General Toast's chicken, hot and sour soup, fried wontons, and white rice.Manny: Aren't you supposed to be on a diet? You should at least get brown rice.Andrea: I don't think so. I hate brown rice, and I'm so sick of eating healthy all the time. I've been eating so much salad, I swear I've forgotten what meat tastes like. There's no better remedy than some nice greasy calorie laden Chinese food. I might even get an order of broccoli beef.Manny: Oh gosh, I'm so hungry. Let's call the waitress over.Language Takeaway: Part 1All right, we're back. So, obviously everything seems so good. Very typical American Chinese dishes. And we have a lot of things that we can take a look at. So, let's start with language takeaway.Language takeaway. In language takeaway today, we're going to be talking about some general food words, words that you can use when you're ordering food. So, the first one we should talk about is this MSG.Right? Andrea asks, "Do you use MSG?" So, why is she asking this? And what is MSG?MSG is an ingredient in foods. It's kind of like a condiment, something that you put on the food after the food has been cooked. And it makes the food taste better, brighter, you know, it intensifies the flavors a little bit.Yeah. And it's kind of it looks like salt or sugar. It's on the tables usually at Chinese restaurants, but a lot of people don't like MSG because they don't think it's very safe for their bodies. And so, actually, the waitress says that the food is MSG free, which means there's no MSG in it.That's right. Okay. So, she says our food is MSG free, which is this chemical. I think it's kind of like a chemical that you describe. That's right. Right? And a lot of people don't want that. So you can ask, is this food MSG free? You could also ask, is it fat free? Is it salt free? So this is a very helpful way of asking about what the ingredients are in a dish. That's right. That's right. And actually, Manny is talking about the food as well. And he says, "Yeah, I've been craving Chinese for such a long time."Okay. So the verb here is to crave, but he said he's been craving. So he really has been wanting this food for a long time. So if you say I'm craving Italian food, what does that mean? That means I really want to eat Italian food. You feel like having Italian food. That's right. So I'm craving some kind of food. I really want to eat it.Okay. And he said that he used to get takeout all the time. So he's obviously talking about Chinese food. What does he mean by takeout?Well, takeout is the opposite of sitting down in a restaurant and eating food. Mhm. Take out is what you do when you want to go home and eat it. So in many restaurants, you can order the food and then you go and you pick up the food and you bring it home.Okay. So that's takeout. So it's a noun. You get takeout.Right? But it's a little bit different from a different kind of takeout. There's takeout where you order the food and you pick it up and you bring it home. But there's also delivery. And delivery is when you order the food and someone else brings it to you. Be careful with those two.All right. Very good. And moving forward, Manny kept talking about the food and said, "Wow, everything on the menu looks so appetizing. It all looks so appetizing."Okay, appetizing is a way to describe something. In this case, we're describing food. So that's normally how we use the word appetizing. So appetizing basically means that you're excited about eating this food because it looks like it will be good. So, what about the word appetizer? Does this have anything to do with it?I think appetizer is something that makes you want to eat more. That's why it's at the beginning of a meal. You have your appetizer before you have your main course. Uh, but the word appetizing means that, you know, it's very appealing. You really want to eat it.It looks good. It looks delicious.Okay. Very good. And Andrea was worried because Manny is ordering so much food. She asks, "Aren't you supposed to be on a diet?"Okay, so this is a phrase, and I want to remind everyone to keep this phrase in mind. You can diet, which is a verb, but in this case, you're on a diet, so it's a noun. I'm on a diet. I'm trying to eat healthily. I'm trying to watch the things that I put in my body. So, usually if you're on a diet, you don't eat really greasy, fatty, takeout Chinese food. You eat salads and soups.Okay, so you are on a diet.Yes, he's on a diet or I was on a diet, but I stopped. All right, a lot of great appealing food. Why don't we go and listen to our dialogue again, and we'll be back with language takeaway part two, where we're going to take a look at the specific American Chinese dishes.Dialogue (Second Listen)Waitress: Hi, welcome to Happy Buddha. Can I get you anything to drink?Manny: Uh, Coke for me, please.Andrea: I'll have a Sprite.Waitress: Okay, I'll go get that for you. Are there any questions with the menu?Andrea: Do you use MSG?Waitress: No, ma'am. We are MSG free.Manny: Oh man, I haven't had Chinese food in so long. I hate brown rice and I'm so sick of eating healthy all the time. I've been eating so much salad I swear I've forgotten what meat tastes like. There's no better remedy than some nice greasy calorie laden Chinese food. I might even get an order of broccoli beef.Manny: Oh gosh, I'm so hungry. Let's call the waitress over.Language Takeaway: Part 2All right, we're back. So now, let's take a look at those delicious American Chinese dishes on Language Takeaway Part Two. And so here we are with a number of delicious and very appetizing dishes. Um these are things that you'll normally find in an American Chinese restaurant. The first one is called crab rangoon.Okay. So this doesn't sound very Chinese at all.Now rangoon is actually a city in a country called Myanmar or Burma.Mhm. And crab rangoon is a special deep fried dish that's like it's like deep fried dumplings, but on the inside there's cream cheese and crab.Uh-huh. Crab meat. That's right. All right. So, it's kind of, as you said, like a dumpling, but inside you have cream cheese and crab.Right.All right. Very good. Now, they also talked about getting the sesame chicken with fried rice.Okay. Okay, so sesame is a very common ingredient in cultures all over the world. And sesame is a kind of seed, but some people also use some sesame oil in their cooking. And so these all come from these white small seeds. And sesame chicken is a kind of chicken that's cooked with sesame seeds.Okay, very good. And obviously we know what fried rice is. You just take it's just basically rice in a pan with sometimes a little bit of meat and egg and just fry it all together. Um, but what about spring rolls? I think these are one of the typical Chinese dishes that everyone knows. And actually, it's also a Chinese dish as well.I love spring rolls, although I've never gotten an American spring roll in China. This the spring rolls we're talking about here are basically wrappers. These like wonton wrappers that are stuffed with meat and vegetables and they they're rolled up so they look like a long roll and they're deep fried. So, okay. So, spring rolls are um as you said, little rolls with meat and sometimes vegetable inside. Um not really sure why they call it spring roll, though.I don't know either. Maybe it has to do with the ingredients, like they're vegetables from the spring, maybe. Now, another one that I actually really really like is this egg drop soup. This is delicious. This is a very simple soup. And when you're cooking it, you break an egg and the egg is mixed into the soup. So, it looks like it's kind of got these yellow pieces floating, but it's a really nice simple soup with egg.Okay. And that's what it's called, egg drop soup. Now, you mentioned the wonton wrappers, and they also mentioned fried wontons. What are wontons?Okay. Wonton are also known as hundu in mainland China. But this is a special kind of dumpling. It's got a piece of dough basically that's flattened out and inside there's meat, maybe some vegetables and um sometimes you eat it in soup, but here we're talking about fried wontons, deep fried wontons. So you put them in the deep fryer and they're fried so that they're crunchy and the insides are soft.Actually, this is one of my favorite dishes, the original one in China though, as you said, the hundun. Um because it's like in a soup.Yes. And it's very simple, but you have like dumplings in a soup. But the fried ones are also very, very good. They are both delicious. And this is making me very hungry. So maybe we should listen to our dialogue again.

    Vol322.日常英语学习Learn English Farm Vocabulary

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Hey everybody, it's Arian Lagringa and welcome back to my YouTube channel. Today I'm with my friend Blair and she's going to be showing me around her farm. I will be teaching all of you guys farm vocabulary in English. Let's go.What do sheep say? I'm good. You want to hear my best sheep impression? All right. Wait, you have to really make an ugly face. Like... Let's go over like the different ways that animals can like make sounds. What does a chicken say? Okay. Chicken has like a rooster. Yeah, that's a rooster.A cow. Okay. Oh, they do... Okay. And the last one is a horse. All right.Farm FashionSo, what is like the typical cowboy/cowgirl outfit? I think what I had on earlier was way more typical farmboy. A pair of beater 7 jeans is what I wear and my muck boots every day. Cowboy boots, shorts, a little top, and a cowgirl hat. And cowboy culture... anything like woven is cool. We like that. We like cowboy. We like loud stuff. These two items are literally like generational cowboy go-tos and your kickers. From one to 10, how would you rate my friend Blair's outfit? I would say 10. No way. I'm a fourth-generation farmer. We do like to look like we lived in and worked in our outfit. If not, then you are a poser a little bit. This door's heavy. It has to be kind of dirty, you know? It has to be... you have to live in it. Lived in is cute.Trucks & TractorsCome on inside. So, this is my truck. And everybody gets a truck when they're born. And this is mine. Wow. Look. And my dad gives us all a truck when we're born. And mine's skull edition. And the gear shifts glow. It's awesome. This thing is our baby. So, why does everyone get a truck when they're born? Is that like tradition in your family? My dad likes vehicles and so do I. So, we like engines. We like big engines. This is a tractor, right? Yes. We used to pull this. My family had pulling tractors. Now I think it's in the antique division. What do you use a tractor for on the farm? Right now we're feeding silage and feeding hay. You have two really big tractors for those.Deer Hunting & Family TraditionsAre those real deer? Yeah, they are. All of these bucks my dad and my brother and I have killed.Do you guys normally hunt deer or like other animals? I have killed quite a few more animals I think than my dad and my brother. In northern Kentucky, we live on the Ohio River and we would plant corn and soybeans and it was just basically a feast for these guys. In northern Kentucky, we have an infestation of deer and so you can kill these guys. If you're a farmer, you get farmer tags and you can kill them. It's legal, and we eat every single bit of our deer. We've had cow tongue, cow intestine, and that's just from our cattle. Deer you can make a lot of jerky with, even the parts that like aren't usually good to eat. What's the difference between a deer and a buck? Is a buck the male deer? Right. So, a deer is like saying the species name and then a buck is the male version and doe is the female version. And what's the baby deer called? Fawn. Yeah, it's a fawn. Yeah, we have the buck, a doe, and the fawn.Grandparents in the South: My dad was a mountain boy in the Appalachians. They were all coal miners. My mamaw actually got divorced and remarried my pap.Wait, what is mamaw pap?In the United States of America, we give our grandparents really goofy names. Yeah, we don't really say like grandma, grandpa. I mean, some families do say that, but it's fun and like uplifting to give your grandpa a funny name. My grandpa's name was Grumpy cuz he was really grumpy. Mamaw and Papaw are my dad's parents' names.Farm Animals & Show AwardsSo, these are Blair's awards. Blair, can you tell me a little bit about your awards and what you won? This is when I showed under 4H. This is when I won Grand Champion Berkshire Market Hog. Grand Champion Market Hog or Reserve Champion Market Hog. And here's the banner for that one.So, basically, you catch pigs? No. In the livestock industry, in the show side of it, it's just like show dogs. You're trying to have the best genetics possible. Like phenotype looking and genetic type. These pigs when you're looking at them phenotypically speaking, they're like stout, wide, and so you have to judge them off of what they look like and they win. So just think of a dog show but with pigs. I won as a showman with all these pigs cuz they're the best. My brother likes cows and I like pigs.Pens & Unique BreedsThis is a fun pen. This has a lot of our unique breeds. So what is a pen? A pen is like a fenced field. A pen can also be like a horse stall or something like that. Just anything that pens in animals. So in this pen, we have belted galloways which are the Oreo looking cows. And then I also have Highlanders with the horns. Scottish Highlander long-haired. You see them?Mhm. So when you breed a Highlander, the one with the horns and the fluffy hair to one of these white-haired white parks, they get white fluffy hair, black ears, and a black nose like that. All the way in the back, do you see it with the long long hair and the hump on his leg? That's a yak. What's a yak? Oh my, you know, a yak. That's the first yak I've ever seen in my life. Yeah, it's really cool. They're really mean. They have like a terrible attitude. They are the meanest animals I've ever had on my farm. Most farmers, whenever you climb on the gate here, you'll get yelled at by your grandpa or by your dad. You always have to climb by the hinges so you don't bend the gate.Cattle Terminology & FeedingWhat's the baby name of a cow? Okay, good question. So, we call them calves. Calf for singular, just one little baby. And then calves for plural. When it's a girl, that's a heifer. That means she has not had a baby yet. When it's a boy, it's born as a bull. And then after you castrate them, then they're a steer. And actually, when a cow is in labor, you can say it's calving. Oh, interesting. I didn't know that.Raising Show CattleSo, this is our bullpen. I'll go over what my family pretty much does for a living. My dad, he's a third-generation row crop farmer. He started off doing tobacco, which is huge in the state of Kentucky, but my brother and I have a little bit different interest than him, and we raise show cattle, show goats, and beef cattle. But this is what we do the most competitively is show cattle. In this pen, we have a lot of Simmental influence cattle. So, you'll see a lot of color. So, there are going to be red and white. And over here is our white park bull. And his name is Neil. So, what makes the best show bull? I wrap it up simple. I also coach judging kids now for my county. And I say it simple like this:butts, nuts, and guts. You want them to have a big butt and be really stout from behind cuz that means they're muscular. You want them to be big in their testicles so they're a good breeding piece. And then you want them to have a big gut so they have depth of body and they can retain their body weight really well and you don't have to be worried about feeding them, them being skinny. What do they normally eat? So this is what they eat right here. We feed our cows silage and grain and hay every day. After you harvest all your corn, you're left with stalks and a lot of farmers turn this into silage and that's what we did and feed it to their cattle and it's really high in protein and good for their gut. And you can even see some of the corn left in there.Blair, does the color red make bulls really aggressive? Honestly, I think that's just a common misconception about cattle. I think cattle, just like many other animals, don't have great color vision. Red is maybe a rare color they actually can see. Back in the day when Toreros would get a bull and do that, maybe it was just the color they could see. So, no, I wear red around my cattle all the time.

    Vol321.日常英语学习More Than a Medical Check

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Good morning, Mark. I see here that you are applying for a job. And you need a full medical check before they accept you. This is our routine process. So, don't worry. But, I will ask you many questions about your daily habits and lifestyle.Good morning, doctor. Yes, I understand. And yes, I'm here to apply for a job. I'm ready to answer everything honestly because I really want to pass this test.Good. Honesty is very important here. Remember that, please. Let's start with something simple. How often do you exercise during the week?Oh, okay. I usually exercise about four or five times a week. I like to stay active. And I try to keep a consistent routine, especially in the mornings. That's good. All right. Now, when you say you usually exercise, what kind of activities do you do? Is it always the same or do you change it?I normally go running three times a week. And I also go to the gym. I don't do same thing every day because I get bored easily. So, I mix cardio and strength training.I see. That sounds good. That sounds like a healthy habit. Now, tell me. How often do you feel tired or without energy during the day?Well, I have to say that I rarely feel tired. It's not normal. Most of the time I have good energy because I sleep well and eat properly. That's interesting. You know, many people your age feel tired very often. But, you say you rarely feel that way. That's a good sign. Good for you. Let's talk about a sleep. How often do you sleep at least seven or eight hours per night?I almost always sleep seven or eight hours. I think sleep is very important, so I try to go to bed early.Excellent. People who almost always asleep well tend to have better physical and mental health. This is important. Do you ever stay up late?I sometimes stay up late especially on weekends or when I travel. But not very often. All right. Now, let's talk about your diet. How often do you eat fast food?I hardly ever eat fast food. Maybe once a month or less. I prefer cooking at home. That's very good. People who hardly ever eat fast food usually have better long-term health. All right. Next question is what do you usually eat during a normal day?I usually eat fruits, vegetables, chicken, and rice. I try to keep it simple and healthy. And what about sugar? How often do you eat sweets or desserts?I sometimes eat sweets but not every day. Maybe two or three times a week. That's acceptable. The problem is when people eat sugar very often. Or always. But in your case, it seems controlled. That's good. Now, let's talk about something important. How often do you drink alcohol?I occasionally drink alcohol. Mostly in social situations. I don't drink every week.Wait. When you say occasionally, can you be more specific?Um maybe once or twice a month. I don't enjoy drinking too much.Drinking occasionally is not a problem. But drinking regularly can affect your health. Now, I need to ask you directly. Do you smoke? And if yes, how often?Smoke? Um no, I never smoke. Honestly, I've never liked it.That's one of the best answers I can hear. People who never smoke reduce many health risks. What about stress? How often do you feel stressed in your daily life?I sometimes feel stressed, especially when I have many responsibilities. But, I try to manage it with exercise and rest. I feel good right now. Not stressed. That's a good strategy. People who manage stress actively tend to stay healthier. Now, tell me. Do you feel stressed regularly or only in a specific situations?Mhm, no. Only in a specific situations. I don't feel stressed all the time.Let's talk about your social life. How often do you meet your friends or family? My friends? Well, I regularly meet my friends, maybe once or twice a week. And I see my family almost always on weekends. I love spending time with them. That's excellent. Because social connection is very important. People who rarely see others can feel isolated. Many people don't know that. Now, a different question. How often do you travel or go out of your routine?I often travel when I can. I like exploring new places and I take short trips whenever I have time. So, you often travel. You exercise regularly. You sleep well. And you eat healthy. That's a very active lifestyle. I am surprised. Now, something more personal. How often do you feel bored with your routine?Mhm, I hardly ever feel bored because I like to stay busy and try new things.

Vol320.日常英语学习Ask for a Favor at the Office

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Hello English Learners, welcome back to English Pod. My name is Marco. And I'm Erica, and we're bringing you another great Elementary lesson today, one that takes place at the office.Yes, today we're going to teach you some great phrases so that you can ask people to help you.Right, and I think this dialogue is with a new person at the office. So when you're new, you always need to ask people for favors.Exactly, okay, so we're going to be asking for a favor. So Marco, what exactly is a favor?Something that a person does for you, like a small helpful thing.Yeah, a small helpful thing. So you know, like "can you pass me that pencil?" Maybe that's even a favor.Yeah, or maybe "can you pick me up on your way to work?" Yeah, that's a favor. Or even lending money to your friend, that's a favor.Yeah, so that's what we're going to be talking about: favors and how to ask for one, because you always have to do this at work, with your friends, with your family. So let's listen to the dialogue and then we'll come back and explain all the vocabulary.Dialogue: Asking for a FavorRachel: Um, sorry to bother you. Um, my name is Rachel. I'm new here. Can I ask you for a favor?Colleague 1: Hi Rachel, welcome on board. I'm afraid I can't help you right now. I'm getting ready for a very important meeting.Rachel: Excuse me, but can I bother you for a second?Colleague 2: You know what, I'd love to help you, but I'm about to meet an important client. Do you want to ask Sean instead? He sits right over there.Rachel: Sorry to interrupt you, Sean. Could you do me a quick favor?Sean: Actually, I'm working on a document that's due in a couple of minutes. I really can't talk right now, sorry about that.Rachel: Jeez, I just want to know where the bathroom is! What's wrong with you people?Language TakeawaySo a pretty busy office, pretty unhelpful colleagues.I know, everyone's so busy they didn't help this poor girl.Yeah, I hope she found the bathroom. Now let's take a look at the language from the dialogue. So let's start with Language Takeaway. There's some great language in this dialogue, wasn't there?Yeah, a lot of interesting phrases and words. The first one that I saw that was really interesting is on board. Welcome on board. Well, we've got some examples of how this phrase is used, so let's listen to them to help us understand the meaning.Example one: Welcome on board, Sarah. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me.Example two: We need to get our new office assistant on board as soon as possible.Example three: We decided to bring Melissa on board to join the marketing team.So basically it means "welcome to the company" or the team. Yeah, welcome on board. So on board is the same as to the company. I guess also when you get on a ship they'll tell you "welcome on board."Yes, that's where it comes from, or an airplane.Yeah, welcome on board. Okay, let's take a look at our next word: about to. I'm about to.So this is a great phrase to explain that you're about to do something. I'm going to do this thing really soon.So for example, you can say, "I'm about to go out for lunch."Or I could say, "Hey Marco, let's go record a show," and you say, "I'm about to go into a meeting."Exactly. Yeah, about to—going to do something really soon. Okay, the next word we have is instead.Instead. It means "in the place of." So for example, if we're at dinner I could say, "I'll have the chicken instead of the fish." Right? Or I can say, "I wanted to buy a red sweater, but they didn't have one, so I bought a blue one instead."Okay, so in the place of. And our last word for language takeaway: interrupt.Interrupt. So when somebody interrupts you, they come in and they talk to you while you're doing something or maybe while you're speaking. Or maybe you're busy and people come and bother you.Okay, some great words here in our dialogue, and now we can listen to it again. This time it's going to be a little bit slower and you'll be able to understand the language a little bit better.

I've been waiting for this forever. So, where should we go? The mountains or the beach?Oh. Beach! Definitely the beach. Sun, sand, waves. Come on, Zara. We need this.Okay, okay. Beach it is. I'll start looking at hotels. How many days should we go? I was thinking maybe 3 days? Friday to Sunday?3 days? Zara, we've been waiting months. Let's do 5 days. Wednesday to Sunday. Make it a real vacation.5 days? Okay, okay. You convinced me. 5 days it is.Okay, okay. I'm making a list. Snacks, chips, cookies, juice, water, maybe some sandwiches. And we need to bring a cooler bag.Anna, we're going for 5 days, not 5 months. Hey, have you talked to Marco? Is he coming with us or not?Oh, yeah. I talked to him yesterday. And? What did he say? He's coming. He asked his boss and they said yes. He took time off work just for this trip.Really? Oh, that's so good. I was worried he wouldn't make it.Are you kidding? Marco would never miss a beach trip. He already bought new sunglasses.I can't believe this is actually happening. We've been planning this for months.I know. I'm so excited I might cry. Okay, okay. Let's book everything tonight. Send me the hotel links.I will. This is going to be the best trip ever. The best! Okay, I have to go pack. Well, mentally pack. Call you later. Okay. Bye, Anna.Zara, I'm here. I'm here. Sorry, I almost missed the bus. You're always late. I was about to leave without you.You would never. Okay, where's Marco? Is he here yet?Hey. Sorry I'm late. The traffic was crazy. You're not late. Anna was late. You're right on time. We're actually doing this. Look at the view. Well, I can't sit still. I'm too excited. How long until we get there?About 2 hours. Relax, Anna. The beach isn't going anywhere.Easy for you to say. You're always calm.Look. Look at this hotel pool. It's shaped like a giant seashell. No way! That's so tacky. I love it.Oh. Are we really staying at a seashell pool hotel?Yes, we are. I booked it. You're welcome.Oh my gosh. Look at this place. The ocean. I can see the ocean from here. This is beautiful. Okay. I have to admit this was a good choice.Good choice? Good choice? This is the best choice we've ever made. Anna! Come on, the hotel is this way.Just 1 second. Look at these shells. They're so pretty.Anna, we just got here. The shells will still be here tomorrow. But this one has a starfish on it. I need it.Anna, stay close. Don't stop.Wait, just a second. This is so cute.Gone. Anna! Come on, we're losing you.Zara? Marco? Okay, okay. Stay calm. They can't be far. They were just ahead of me. I'll find them. I'll just walk this way. Zara, Marco, please answer me. Where did you go? I'm sorry I stopped at the stall.Okay, okay. Stay calm. They can't be far. They were just ahead of me. I'll find them. I'll just walk this way. They must be this way. Zara, Marco, please answer me. Where did you go? I'm sorry I stopped at the stall. I'm so sorry. Which way? Uh no, I'm okay. Just keep moving.Hey, you look lost. Need help? No. I'm fine. Thank you.Come on. I'm just trying to help.A hotel. This is safe. I can ask for help here. I can do this. Hi. I'm sorry to bother you. I'm lost. I got separated from my friends. I don't have my phone. I don't know the hotel name. Can you please help me?Oh. Of course, sweetheart. Don't worry, you're safe here. Do you remember your friends' names? Or the hotel name?Zara. My friend's name is Zara. And Marco. And the hotel, it had a pool shaped like a seashell. I should have stayed close. Zara told me to stay close. But I just had to look at those shells. I'm so stupid. We're looking for your friends, sweetheart. Just rest for a minute.Thank you. Thank you so much.Anna, Anna, where did she go? She was right behind us. I told her to stay close.Okay, okay. Let's think. She stopped at that souvenir stall. She was looking at shells. That was maybe 10 minutes ago.

    Vol318.日常英语学习The Overthinking Trap

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Let me ask you something. Have you ever replayed the same conversation in your mind again and again? Have you ever thought about a decision so much that you felt tired but still didn't act? Have you ever imagined many possible problems even when nothing has happened yet?If your answer is yes, you are not alone. Today we're going to talk about something that affects millions of people every day: Overthinking. Why do we do it? Why is it so hard to stop? And more importantly, what is it doing to our minds and our lives?Today we have a very special guest. He is a psychologist and researcher who specializes in anxiety, decision-making, and cognitive behavior. He has studied how the human brain processes uncertainty, fear, and information overload. Today he will help us understand why we overthink everything and what we can do about it. Thank you very much for being here today.Thank you. I'm very happy to be here because overthinking is one of the most common psychological patterns I see in my work. And the interesting thing is this: Many people believe overthinking is a sign of intelligence. They think, "I think a lot, so I am careful. I analyze everything, so I make better decisions." But in reality, overthinking often does the opposite. It creates confusion, stress, and in many cases, inaction. That is very interesting. So overthinking is not always helpful even if people believe it is.Exactly. Let's start with a simple definition. Overthinking is when your mind repeats the same thoughts again and again without reaching a clear conclusion or action. It is not the same as thinking. Thinking helps you solve problems. Overthinking keeps you trapped in the problem. The Science Behind OverthinkingNow I want to explain something important from a scientific perspective. Our brain has a natural function to protect us. Thousands of years ago, humans needed to constantly analyze their environment to survive. They needed to ask, "Is this safe? Is there danger? What could go wrong?" This ability helped humans survive in dangerous environments. But today the world is different. We are not usually in physical danger. But our brain still works in the same way. So instead of asking, "Is there a tiger?" we ask, "What if I fail? What if they judge me? What if I make a mistake?" The brain is still trying to protect us, but now it is protecting us from social and emotional threats. So overthinking is connected to survival, but in a modern context.Exactly. And here's where the problem begins. The brain does not always know the difference between real danger and imagined danger. For example, imagine a student who wants to speak English in public. There is no real physical danger, but the brain starts creating scenarios: "What if I say something wrong? What if people laugh? What if I look stupid?" The body reacts as if something dangerous is happening. Heart rate increases. Muscles become tense. The person feels anxious. This creates a loop: Thought, emotion, more thoughts, more emotion. This loop is one of the main mechanisms behind overthinking. That explains why overthinking feels so intense even when nothing is actually happening. The Modern Triggers: Overload, Control, and PerfectionismExactly. Now, let me explain another important concept: Cognitive overload.Today, we live in a world full of information. Every day we consume social media, news, messages, videos, opinions. The brain receives more information than ever before in human history. And when the brain has too much information, it tries to process everything. This can create confusion. For example, imagine someone trying to make a simple decision like choosing a career or starting a business. They watch many videos. They read many opinions. They compare many options. Instead of becoming clear, they become more confused. This is called analysis paralysis. Too much thinking leads to no action. That is something many people experience today. They have too many options and too much information.Yes. And this creates mental noise. When the mind is full of noise, it becomes difficult to hear your own thoughts clearly. Now I want to talk about another cause of overthinking: The need to control. Many people overthink because they want to control the future. They want to predict everything. They want to avoid mistakes. They want to feel safe. But here is the reality: The future is uncertain. No matter how much you think, you cannot control everything. So what happens? The mind keeps searching for certainty but never finds it, and this creates more thinking. So overthinking is also connected to uncertainty.Yes. And this leads to another important factor: Perfectionism. Perfectionism is the belief that everything must be done perfectly. People who have this mindset often think, "I need the perfect decision. I need the perfect plan. I need to avoid mistakes." So they think more and more and more. But the more they think, the more they see possible problems, and this creates fear. So instead of acting, they delay. That explains why some people never start things. They are waiting for the perfect moment.Exactly. But perfection is not realistic, and waiting for perfection often leads to inaction. Let me share a real example from one of my patients. He was a young professional who wanted to change careers. He spent months thinking about it. He made lists of pros and cons. He watched many videos. He asked many people for advice. But after 6 months, nothing changed. When I asked him why he had not made a decision, he said, "I'm still thinking." But in reality, he was not moving forward. He was trapped in thinking. After some sessions, we discovered something important: He was not overthinking because he needed more information. He was overthinking because he was afraid of making the wrong decision. That is powerful. So sometimes overthinking is not about thinking, it is about fear.Yes, that's correct. And this is something very important to understand. Overthinking often looks like logic, but it is driven by emotion—fear, insecurity, and doubt. The Real Consequences of OverthinkingNow let's talk about the consequences of overthinking, because many people believe overthinking is harmless, but it has real effects:Mental Exhaustion: Thinking all the time uses a lot of energy. People feel tired even if they did nothing physically.Stress and Anxiety: The mind keeps imagining negative scenarios. The body reacts as if those scenarios are real.Reduced Decision-Making Ability: When you think too much, every option starts to look risky. So, decisions become harder.Inaction: People stay in the same place not because they cannot move, but because they are stuck in their own thoughts. That is very interesting and also a little scary because many people live like that every day.Yes. And the most dangerous part is that overthinking feels productive. People feel like they are doing something important, but in reality, they are not moving forward.Practical Strategies to Stop OverthinkingThis conversation is very deep. We talked about the brain's survival system, cognitive overload, the need for control, perfectionism, and the emotional side of overthinking. Now I would like to explore something very important. How can people stop overthinking? What practical strategies can they use in daily life? Not in theory, but in daily situations. That is the key question, because understanding overthinking is the first step. But learning how to manage it is what truly changes people's lives. And I want to start with something that may surprise many people:

    Vol317.日常英语学习Pool Vocabulary In English

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Hey guys! Welcome back to my YouTube channel. My name is Ariannita la Gringa and in today's video I will teach all of you English. But can you guys tell me where I'm at? I'm at the pool. So in today's video, I will teach all of you pool vocabulary. What is the most important thing to bring if you are at the pool? Well, the most important thing is to bring a swimsuit. I am wearing a swimsuit. If you are a man you would wear swimming trunks. Now it's time to change my clothes because I can't go in the pool with these shorts.I just changed my clothes. I am wearing a one-piece bathing suit, but if you're at the pool you can also wear a two-piece bathing suit. And that is called a bikini. And if you're a man you will use these. These are swimming trunks. And you can go to the pool or the beach and wear your swimming trunks. And these are shorts that will dry easily especially if you get water on them.Testing the Water & Pool TypesRight now nobody is in the pool, but I will dip my toe in the water to check out the temperature of the water. I am dipping my toe in the water and it's pretty chilly (it's pretty cold), but I think once you jump in the pool and you're in it for a while, you get used to the water. And I normally don't do this just to wash off my feet. I usually like to dip my toe in the water and check the temperature before I get in the pool. This pool is an in-ground pool. It's in the ground, but another type of pool is an above-ground pool. Above-ground because it's above the ground. Let me know which pool do you prefer... Do you like an in-ground pool or do you like an above-ground pool? And if you're not a pool person do you like the beach?Sponsor SegmentBefore teaching you more pool vocabulary I want to ask you... Let's dive back into the video!Sun ProtectionOne thing you may need if you're at the pool is sunscreen. And why do you need sunscreen? Well I will be outside all day and the sun is out so I want to protect my skin and apply sunscreen all over my body so I do not get burnt. I am applying sunscreen all over my body and on my face because I do not want to get a sunburn. And for me it's very important to wear sunscreen every day even if you're not at the pool because you can still get burnt if you're working or in the sun all day. And I personally use sunscreen every day because I have fair and pale skin and I don't want to get burnt. Even when I'm back home (if it's cloudy) I still use sunscreen. And another thing you may need besides sunscreen are sunglasses. This is a pair of sunglasses and I wear sunglasses because I do not want to squint my eyes. I am squinting so when I use sunglasses I do not squint. And these protect my eyes from the sun. And wearing sunglasses is perfect especially when you lay down on a sun bed because you won't squint and you can relax and enjoy your day.The Pool Supply StoreThis pool is beautiful. I wonder how they built it and where they got all of their supplies to clean the pool. Do they have a pool store? Well yes they do, they have a pool supply store. Let's go ahead and check it out. Right now I'm outside the pool supply store. I'm curious to see what types of pool supplies they have so come along with me and let's go check it out.I am inside the pool supply store where they have a ton of different pool supplies. Behind me, this is pool tile so you can pick different kinds of pool tile to make a pool. And then when you go out of the pool you will walk on a patio and I am standing on travertine. This is the marble that will be your patio. In this store, you can find everything to build your dream pool and the prices range from $80,000 up to $1.2 million because you can pick how big you want your pool or the different things you want inside the pool. You can have a heated pool. This is a pool heater where your pool will be heated every day of the year. Even during the wintertime! And over here they have pool cleaners and different types of robots to clean your pool. Also, if you do not clean your pool every day your pool will turn green. That's why it's very important to buy cleaners like robots and also chemicals so your pool will stay blue and not green. They have different types of robots to clean your pool. This one is $700 and it is a suction cleaner so it'll suction out all the gunk in your pool and then this one is the most expensive robot at $999. And this is the cordless robotic cleaner. You can throw this in your pool and it'll drive in the pool and it'll go up the pool walls and clean everything inside the pool.Pool Accessories & FloatsAnd this is the fun part of the pool where you can swim in the pool and you have different types of things to help you float in the pool. This is a floaty. It's a ring with an animal on it and you can put your kid or your child in this ring and they can float around. And then you can also buy a huge inflated swan. You can enjoy your pool by laying out on the swan all day.And then if you're in the pool and you want to swim under the water then you can buy goggles. These are swim goggles and you put goggles on your face, over your eyes, and then you can go below the water open your eyes and see everything in the water without your eyes getting red. Now, what do you call these? These are pool noodles and you can float with pool noodles. When you're in the water you can put this pool noodle in the water, fill it up, and then blow and the water will spurt from this end. And then these are large armbands or you can say floaties. These armbands will wrap around both arms and then your little kid can float. And over here there are different kinds of floats. You can float on a unicorn.

Vol316.日常英语学习8 Habits to Fix Your Finances

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Welcome back to the Learn English podcast, my friend. I'm Leo.And I'm Gwen. It's great to have you here with us today. Leo, you sound pretty excited today. What's on your mind?Hmm, I've been thinking about something interesting. Let me ask you this. Have you ever opened your bank account and thought, "Wait, what happened to my money?"Oh, yeah. That already feels a little emotional to talk about. Right? Sometimes you check your balance and think, "Okay, I'm doing fine." And other times it just gives you a heart attack looking at your account.Yeah, that's definitely not just you. I've been there, too.Wait, Gwen, seriously? You, too?Of course. I can talk about money very logically in theory, but in real life, money has its own way of teaching me harsh lessons.Wow, that's a bit shocking. There's actually a big gap between knowing about money and understanding your own money. Well, and when we talk about this, there is a phrase for it: financial literacy.Ooh, sounds fancy.Financial literacy means truly understanding where your money comes from, where it goes, and most importantly, being able to control it.That sounds great, but I don't have a finance degree or anything. And that's exactly the good news in today's episode. You don't need any degree. You can still manage your money with small habits, simple things that you can stick to over time. So, this episode is not going to turn us into millionaires in 1 week.Nope, silly. Today, we're going to share eight simple money tips that school never teaches you. They won't make you rich overnight, but they will help you fix the way your money is flowing in your life. And as always, we'll thoroughly explain everything so you can actually use it in your daily life. This episode is at a B2 level, so the vocabulary might be a bit richer. But don't worry, we'll repeat the key ideas and explain any new phrases when they come up. If you're at a B1 level, don't be afraid. It might feel a bit challenging, but that's exactly how you improve. All right, then what are we waiting for? Let's get started. The Problem with Modern SpendingSo, Leo, I'm guessing that what you said earlier was about how you handle your money, right? Mind sharing?Well, you know how it is. I've got a pretty steady job. I also do some side jobs.Sounds like you stay busy.Yeah, there was even one time I almost bailed on you just because of a side job.I remember that, but hey, it's in the past. Keep going. So, yeah, my income is honestly not bad. Sometimes I open my banking app, I actually feel pretty good about myself. That sounds great, though. One day, I was out shopping and when I tried to pay, my card got declined.Wait, what?It was so awkward. Luckily, I had some cash on me, so I could still cover it.Oh, no.When I got home, I just sat there thinking it through. Then it hit me. Wait, where did all my money go?That sounds really familiar. I don't think you're the only one. Right? You get paid, you feel great, you even tell yourself you're going to save this month, but money just disappears anyway.Exactly, and you have no idea what happened.Leo, honestly, most of the time it's rarely the big purchases that drain your bank account. It's all the little things you don't even notice.Yeah, the way we spend money now is just so different from before.Totally. Like in this digital age, you can shop online in seconds. A few clicks and it's done. No real thought involved.I agree. Sometimes I finish checking out and I can't even remember what I just bought. It's because paying has become way too painless. You just tap a card, scan a QR code, and you're done. There's no real feeling of losing money. That's true. You spend without feeling it. On top of that, you have those sneaky everyday expenses: coffee runs, takeout, random subscription services.Ugh, don't even get me started. I pay for Netflix every month, but I barely have the time to watch anything.See, each of those charges seems tiny on its own, but when you look at the monthly total, it's a completely different story. That hits. The convenience of modern life is genuinely such a financial trap. And that's not even the worst part. Think about the pressure from social media, like seeing everyone else living this amazing life and feeling like you should, too.Yep. What's actually the problem here? The problem isn't how much you earn, it's that you don't have control over how money leaves you.Okay, so if the problem is that I can't control my spending, should I start writing down every single purchase I make?Actually, that's not the best first step. You might keep up at first, but it's easy to forget when you're busy.Oh, I see. So, what's a better approach then?

This is a slim-fit shirt. It's very popular now. The material is light and comfortable.Mhm. It looks nice. What color is it?It's light blue. It gives a fresh and modern look.I like the color. I'm not sure. You can also add a watch. Accessories are very important.Yes, I like watches. This one is simple, but modern. Mhm. It looks nice. So, you have shirt, jeans, jacket, sneakers, and a watch.Yes, everything looks good, but...But, what?I don't feel like myself. What do you mean?It looks good, but it doesn't feel like my style.Mhm. That's important.I think I prefer something more... more classic. That's okay. Let's find something that matches your personality.Yes, please. And sorry for wasting your time. No, you don't have to apologize. That's okay. Here is a white shirt. Very classic and elegant.Mhm. I like that. And these formal pants. Perfect for any social event.Yes, this feels more like me.You can add this blazer. It's simple, but very elegant. This is perfect. And formal shoes?Yes. Definitely. Great choice. You know, I wanted to try something new.And you did.Yes, but I think it's more important to feel comfortable.I agree, sir. Fashion is important, but your essence is more important.Exactly.You can follow trends, but you should always be yourself. That's true. In the end, confidence is the best style.I couldn't agree more. Thank you.

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888All right. Welcome back to Podcast and Chill, where we talk about real stuff in real English at a pretty chill pace. If this is your first time here, hi, I'm Gwen. And I'm Leo.We're basically two people who think too much and talk about it so you don't have to think alone. That's actually a nice way to put it. Because today's topic is one of those things that a lot of people feel but never really talk about out loud. Yeah, we're talking about self-worth. And to be clear, we are not talking about the kind of self-worth that comes from your job title, your GPA, or how productive you were today. We're talking about that quiet internal question that always pops up: Am I actually enough? It sounds heavy, I know. But we're going to keep it honest, keep it light, and hopefully keep it useful. We'll be here helping you build your own self-worth step by step at your own pace. You don't have to have it all figured out right now. Just being here, listening, and reflecting. This podcast is designed for people around the B2 level. So we speak naturally with richer English, but we also don't throw in a hundred idioms a minute. Right, it's that sweet spot where you're slightly challenged but never lost. And as always, we've got a vocabulary recap waiting for you at the end. So if you miss a word, don't stress. Just stay with us.Language and life lessons, two for one. So, grab your coffee, your tea, or just get comfortable wherever you are. Let's dive in.The Root of the Problem: Outsourcing Self-WorthMaybe I should start with the root of the problem. When you don't have a strong sense of your own self-worth, how do you even measure it?You outsource it. You look for it outside yourself, mostly in other people's approval. Because if you can't see your own value, you desperately need someone else to tell you that you are enough. Exactly. It's like floating without an anchor. You start relying on a compliment, a like on Instagram, or just someone noticing you to feel okay about yourself. And the crazy part is, you don't even realize you're doing it.Until something tiny happens.Right. Let's look at a real-life example. Imagine you see a friend post a story that they are nearby. You feel excited, so you text them, "Hey, want to hang out?" with a big smiley face emoji. You're totally pumped. Yeah, a good vibe. But then they reply, "Hey, kind of busy. Catch up later." No emoji, no exclamation mark, just a dry simple text.Oh, no. The dreaded dry text. Now, a secure person would just think, "Oh, they're busy. Cool." But if your self-worth depends on them, your brain immediately calls an emergency meeting. Yes, you start completely spiraling. Your brain goes, "Wait, are they mad at me? Did I do something annoying? Do they not want to be friends anymore?"Your entire mood for the day is ruined just because of a missing emoji. And that shows exactly how vulnerable you become when your value is tied to someone else's reaction. So, it's not about them at all. It's how we interpret their response. Right, your reaction is tied to their approval.

    Vol312.日常英语学习The Weight of the Past

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888It feels so strange being here again, you know? Sitting in this same garden. Looking at the same old walls, the same sofa, even the same smell. It's like nothing changed. But at the same time, everything feels different. Now, I was walking here and I started remembering so many things. Like when we were kids, running around, fighting for stupid things, laughing for no reason, and thinking life was simple. Do you remember how we used to stay up late watching TV, even when we knew that mom would get angry the next day? It was so funny. Those nights felt so big. Like we owned the world. Like nothing bad would ever happen to us.Yeah, I remember. I remember almost everything. Sometimes more than I want to, actually. But yeah, those nights, they were good. We didn't have much, but it didn't feel like we were missing anything. We had each other and that was enough. You were always so full of energy. Always asking questions, always following me everywhere. Like I was some kind of hero or something. It was annoying sometimes. I won't lie. But also, it made me feel important. Like I had to be strong for both of us.You were important. For me, you were everything. I mean, dad was not really around. And mom was always tired, uh always working, always stressed. But you were there. You helped me with homework. You walked me to school. You even made me food when mom couldn't. I didn't understand it back then, but now I see it. You were just a kid, too. And still, you acted like an adult. That's crazy when I think about it now.I didn't have a choice, Lucas. Someone had to do it. And honestly, I didn't think about it too much. I just did what needed to be done. That's how things were in this house. You adapt or you break. And I didn't want you to feel what I felt growing up. So, I tried to protect you from that. You did a good job. At least most of the time. I mean, I have good memories, really good ones. Like when you taught me to how to ride a bike, even though I kept falling again and again. And crying like a baby. Or when you defended me that time at school. When those older kids were making fun of me. I remember how scared I was. But when you showed up, everything changed. I felt safe again. I always felt safe when you were around. That's all I wanted. For you to feel safe. That's why I used to do it.Yeah. But not everything was like that.Um, what do you mean? I don't understand. Tell me.I mean, there were things I didn't understand. Things that didn't make sense. Things that I remember, but I never really talked about. Maybe because I was a kid. Or maybe because I didn't want to think about them too much. But now, being here again, all those memories are coming back.Lucas, we don't have to go there. That's not necessary.W- what? Why not? Why don't you want to go there?Well, because some things are better left in the past. That's it.Well, that's easy for you to say, but not for me.I'm not saying it's easy. I'm saying it's necessary. Come on. Don't do it.No, I don't think it is because those things didn't just disappear. They stayed here. And I never understood them. Like that night. Do you remember that night? When mom left and didn't come back until the next morning? I was scared, Daniel. I was really scared. And you... you locked me in the room.Lucas, don't. We don't have to talk about that. Really.

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Conversation 1Hello.May I speak to Nancy, please?Speaking.Uh hi. Um my name is Mari and I'm calling about the room for rent. I saw your ad at the campus housing office.Oh, right. Okay. Uh are you a student?Well, right now I'm just studying English, but I'm planning to start college full-time in March.I see. Where are you living now?I've been living in a house with some other students, but I don't like it there. Why? What's the problem?Well, first of all, it's really noisy and it's not very clean. The other people in the house are real slobs. I mean, they never lift a finger to clean up after themselves. It really bugs me. I need a place that's cleaner and more private.Well, it's really quiet here. We're not home very much. What do you do?I teach English at the college. Wait a minute. Didn't we meet yesterday at the placement exam? Oh, you're the girl from Japan. What was your name again?Mari.Right. What a small world. It really is. By the way, who else lives in the house? The ad said there are three people.Well, besides me, there's my husband, Andrew, and my cousin, Jeff. He's a musician and a part-time student. Uh are you okay with having male roommates?Sure, as long as they're clean and not too noisy.Don't worry. They're both easy to live with.Okay. Um is the neighborhood safe?Oh, sure. We haven't had any problems and you can walk to school from here.Well, it sounds really nice. When can I come by and see it?Can you make it this evening around 5:00? Then you can meet the guys, too.Yeah, 5:00 is good. What's the address? It's 3475 Hayworth Avenue. Do you know where that is?No, I don't.Okay. From University Village, you go seven blocks east on Olympic Avenue. At the intersection of Olympic and Alfred, there's a stoplight. Turn left and go up one and a half blocks. Our house is in the middle of the block on the left. That sounds easy.Yeah, you can't miss it. Listen, I've got to go. Someone's at the door. See you this evening.Okay, see you later. Bye.Bye-bye.Conversation 2Hello.Hi, Dad.Jeff, how are you?I'm fine, Dad. How's Mom? Did she get over her cold?Uh yes, she's fine now. She went back to work yesterday. That's good. Um Dad, I need to ask you something.I'm sure, son. What is it?Well, uh the truth is I'm broke again. Could you lend me $200 just till the end of the month?Broke again? Jeff, when you moved in with Nancy and Andrew, you said you could make ends meet. But this is the third time you've asked me for help.I know, I know. I'm sorry. But see, my old guitar broke and I had to buy a new one. I can't play on a broken guitar, right?Look, Jeff, if you want to play in a band, that's okay with me. But you can't keep asking me to pay for it.Okay, okay, you're right. But what do you think I ought to do? Everything costs an arm and a leg around here.Well, first of all, I think you'd better go on a budget. Make a list of all your income and all your expenses. And then it's simple. Don't spend more than you earn. But that's exactly the problem. My expenses are always larger than my income. That's why I need to borrow money from you. Then maybe you should work more hours at the computer store.Dad, I already work 15 hours a week. How can I study and work and find time to play with my band?Come on, Jeff. When I was your age—I know, I know. When you were my age, you were already married and working and going to school. That's right. And if I could do it, why can't you?Because I'm not you, Dad. That's why.All right, Jeff. Calm down. I don't expect you to be like me, but I can't lend you any more money. Your mother and I are on a budget, too, you know.Maybe I should just drop out of school, work full-time, and play in the band in the evenings. I can go back to school later.I wouldn't do that if I were you.Yeah, but you're not me, remember? It's my life. All right, Jeff. Let's not argue. Why don't you think about this very carefully and call me back in a few days. And in the meantime, you'd better find a way to pay for that new guitar.Yes, Dad.All right. Goodbye, son.Bye.Conversation 3Hey, Jeff. What's going on?Oh, I'm looking at the classified ads. It looks like I have to get a job.I thought you had a job at a computer store or something.Yeah, but that's part-time. I need something full-time.Really? But what about school? What about your band? How can you work full-time?Well, to tell you the truth, I'm probably going to drop out of school for a while. I'm just not in the mood for studying these days. I'd rather spend my time playing with my band. But my father won't support me if I'm not in school.I see. Well, what kind of job do you want to get?Well, ideally, something involving music, like in a record store. But if that's not possible, I don't know. But whatever I do, it'll be better than my first job.Oh, yeah? What was that?Believe it or not, the summer after I finished high school, I worked at Burger Ranch. You? In a fast food place? What did you do there?I was a burger flipper. You know, I made hamburgers all day long. That sounds like a pretty boring job.It was the worst. And I haven't gone inside a Burger Ranch since I quit that job.Hi. What's so funny? Do you remember my job at the Burger Ranch?Oh, yeah. That was pretty awful. But actually, it doesn't sound so bad to me right now. Why, Nancy? What's wrong?Oh, I'm just really, really tired. I'm teaching four different classes this term and two of them are really large. Sometimes I think I've been teaching too long. How long have you been teaching?12 years. Maybe it's time to try something else.Like what?Well, I've always wanted to be a writer. I could work at home.Oh, don't listen to her, Mari. She always talks this way when she's had a bad day at school. At least you have a good job, Nancy. Look at me. I'm broke and Dad won't lend me any more money.Oh, stop complaining. If you're so poor, why don't you go back to the Burger Ranch?Listen, you two, stop arguing. Look at me. I can't work at all because I'm an international student.Okay, okay. I'm sorry, Nancy. Tell you what. Let's go out to dinner. I'll pay.But you're broke. All right, you pay.

    Vol310.日常英语学习Start Managing Energy

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Hey everyone, welcome back to Podcast and Chill where you learn English while growing up through real-life topics. I'm Leo.And I'm Gwen. Today we want to talk about something very real. Why is it that in such a modern world we're actually getting busier and more tired?Great topic, Gwen. Honestly, I wonder about this, too. We have vacuums, dishwashers, and washing machines, blah, blah, blah. All kinds of gadgets to make life easier.Right. We've got online shopping, food delivery, literally everything comes straight to your door. But somehow time just disappears. And yet, instead of actually relaxing with all that saved time, we end up burning so much mental energy on the little things. Our brains just get completely mentally crowded.Oh, mentally crowded. Like having too many tabs open in your brain all loading at once, right?Exactly. A dozen phone notifications, scrolling through random videos, catching up on trending posts on Instagram, then boom, the day is gone. So, in today's episode, we'll break down the core reasons behind this problem. And of course, we'll offer some simple, practical solutions so you can finally take back control of your time. This episode is aimed at around the B2 level. But if you're B1, feel free to challenge yourself. Don't worry if you hit any tough words, we'll recap the key vocabulary at the end. All right, no more waiting. Let's get started. The Generational Gap & Fast-Paced Modern LifeHey, Gwen. Before we get into the causes, I think we should talk about something first.Like what?Like the difference between generations. Especially the gap between life before and after technology.Okay, then. I've been thinking about that, too, actually. It feels a little strange.Right? Like why did our grandparents and parents seem so much more relaxed and happy back then? Clearly, they didn't have modern technology. Almost everything was done by hand. And yet, they seem to enjoy life more. I think I know why.Ooh, look at Leo getting all wise today.Hey, stop teasing me. I'm trying to be serious here.Okay, okay. I'm just messing with you. Go on, tell us why. Why did our grandparents live happier lives without all this technology?I think it comes down to one word: Freedom.Oh, that actually makes sense. Freedom is the feeling of being able to do what you want without being controlled or rushed.Yeah. Back then, they didn't have much. But they had time. More than that, they actually enjoyed the process of doing things.I totally get that feeling. When I was little, I used to bake cookies with my grandma. That sounds so sweet. One time, I burned a whole batch. But instead of getting upset, we just laughed at my clumsiness and started over.Love that. So, what about now? Now we have all this technology, but we're living way too fast. Work pressure, endless emails, complaints, deadlines, life goals. It feels like sometimes you need to clone yourself just to keep up.I'm kind of shocked about you today, Leo. Very impressive.Thank you. But anyway, that's true. There's so much going on that we just keep our heads down from morning till night.Yeah. And the crazy part is after all that rushing around, we crawl into bed and think, wait, what did I even do today? Or worse, where did my time even go today? So, why does it feel like our time is constantly slipping through our fingers?Time vs. EnergyOn the surface, I'd say it's because our brains are getting way too much input every single day. Got 5 free minutes? Next thing you know, you've been scrolling for an hour. That's super common.Yeah, it happens all the time. But I don't think that's the real problem. What do you mean?

Actually, I've been waiting for that guy to ask me out since he started working here.Hey, Alex. Can I talk to you for a moment? I feel a little nervous today. I can't focus on my work and my mind is somewhere else. I keep thinking about something or someone. Actually, I don't know why it feels so hard to say it out loud, but I really need your advice. Because you are my best friend here at work. You know that. And you always listen to me without judging me. I need your help.Calm down. Take a breath and tell me, what's going on? Is it about work, stress, or is it about someone? I can see it in your face. You don't need to rush. I'm here.O-okay. I'll say it. I like someone from work. I've liked her for a long time now. Every time I see her, I feel nervous. My heart beats faster and my mind goes blank. I want to invite her out. Maybe for a coffee or a simple walk. But every time I try, I can't find the right words. I don't know why. I feel stupid. Like I'm back in the school. I don't know what to do.Ah, I knew it. That explains everything. And let me tell you something important. Feeling nervous means you really care. And that's not a stupid at all. It's human. It's normal. So, tell me, who is she? Do I know her? I want to know.Yes. You know her. It's Emma. She works in accounting. She's kind, calm, and always smiles at everyone. Sometimes we talk a little about work or about small things. But nothing personal. I'm afraid of making things awkward or uncomfortable.Okay. I understand. Mark, listen to me carefully. Inviting someone out doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be honest. You don't need big words or dramatic speeches. Just be yourself. Why don't you go talk to her today? Start with a normal conversation. You just need to be natural, my friend. I know you can do it.Do you think so? Well, I suppose I can try. What can I lose, right? That's the right attitude. I think you will do it fine. Don't worry.Okay. I think she's in her office right now. I'll go talk to her.Hey, Mark. Good morning. How are you today?Oh, uh hi, Emma. Good morning. Um um I'm good. Just busy, you know? Work is a little crazy today.Yeah. I understand. Mondays are always like that. But tell me, did you have a good weekend? My weekend? Uh yes. Yes, I stayed at home mostly. Watched some movies, relaxed a bit. Um what about you?I visited my sister and spent some time with my family. It was nice. Sometimes you really need that break.Yeah. Family time is important. Important. Very important. Is everything okay, Mark? You seem a little distracted today.Oh, yes. Yes, I'm fine. Everything's fine. I I just I well, I should get back to work. Nice talking to you.Okay. See you later. Um that was weird.Mark. Hey. So, how did it go? Did you do it?

    Vol308.日常英语学习Midwest American Accents

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Hi everybody. Welcome back to my YouTube channel. In today's video, I will be interviewing my friend Marcellus who is from Cincinnati, Ohio. Let's get started. I'm with my friend Marcellus. So, Marcellus, how many siblings do you have?I have three. I have a sister and I have two brothers. What's it like having two brothers and one sister?I got built-in best friends, so it's great. Are you the oldest, youngest, in the middle?Me and my younger brothers share the middle. I grew up the middle and then we had my sister like just way later. So then I end up sharing the middle. But yeah, middle. What do you do for work?I do three things. I work at a skateboard shop. I serve. And then I also cut hair at my house. So it's kind of like a side gig.Marcellus said cutting hair is his side gig. A side gig is a job you do in addition to your main job, usually to make extra money. It's casual, flexible, and not your main source of income. For example, I work at a school, but I also sell jewelry online. That's my side gig. You'll also hear side hustle. Same meaning. I work at a bank, but I also do photography on weekends. That's my side hustle. The word gig alone just means a job. Musicians use it all the time. We have a gig tonight at 9:00.What's your favorite job out of the three of them?Cutting hair. Cutting hair is probably the best one. It's like talking with the homies, pretty much.He mentioned spending time with the homies. So what does that mean? Homie or homies for the plural means a close friend. Someone you grew up with, live near, or just feel really comfortable around. For example, I'm not going out tonight, just chilling with my homies. The word comes from homeboy, which originally meant someone from your same neighborhood or hometown. Over time, it got shortened and spread everywhere. Now people use it all across the US, not just in one region. What kind of music do you listen to?All right, that I know a lot of people say everything, but everything. I love French music, UK rap, even R&B, American R&B. I love rap. Um, some bachata, some Brazilian funk. Oh man, like everything. I've recently started liking country, so I've even been dabbling in country music.Did you catch that word? He said he's been dabbling in country music. What does dabbling mean? To dabble means to try something casually. You use it when someone does an activity just for fun without becoming an expert. I dabble in photography, which means I take photos sometimes, but I'm not a professional. She dabbles in cooking. She cooks occasionally and tries new recipes, but it's not her main thing. He used to dabble in music. He played music a bit in the past, but never seriously. What kind of sports do you follow here in America? Like what do you like to watch?Football. I fell back in love with football. Not soccer, football. No, not soccer football. American football.American football. American football. Growing up, I always played football. I started playing when I was about four. That was my first love and then I've always been a fan of the Bengals. I stopped being a fan for a few years only because I just didn't watch the sport. Recently, I've been picking up a bit of baseball as well and that was another one of my like first sports I played growing up. I've got to be honest. I honestly just go to the games for the food.Nothing wrong with it. Nothing wrong as long as you're supporting the right team. Are you from Cincinnati originally? Cuz you said you grew up like playing football and stuff. You like the Bengals?Born and raised. I'm from Madisonville.Marcellus said he was born and raised in Cincinnati. This means he was born there and grew up there. Same city his whole life. Yeah. Born and raised here. I don't know if I'll say. What is your favorite thing about Cincinnati and your least favorite thing?Just to get the negatives out the way, least favorite thing are probably the drivers and then the amount of construction we always have and then how bad the roads can be. Like I just feel like I'm always hitting a pothole.A pothole is a hole or crack in the road, usually caused by cold weather or old pavement. They can damage your car's tires and wheels. I hit a pothole and got a flat tire. The city needs to fix all these potholes. Cincinnati and many Midwest cities are famous for bad potholes in winter. So now you understand exactly why Marcellus is complaining. The roads, they are bad.The roads are bad.I mean, my car has been in the shop like twice in the past year cuz I went over three, four potholes and it costs a lot of money to repair your car. My favorite thing in Cincinnati, honestly, the atmosphere, especially when it comes to events and sports and then also the diversity of people. You could like go somewhere and just meet someone you never thought you'd meet and then also like take a few steps down the road and meet a completely different person.Since you're from Cincinnati, do you think you have a Midwest accent?I never thought about me having an accent until I was a little bit younger. I was like a teenager and I was on the Xbox and somebody was like, "Yo, where are you from?" I was like, "I'm from Ohio." They're like, "You got an accent." I'm like, "What?" And then like as I got older and like I will like recognize that I'll say some words with like a little bit of like twang to it or like just like I'll emphasize it a different way someone else would.

Vol307.日常英语学习Train Your Brain to Speak English

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Hey everyone, welcome back to Pod Chill, the chill place to practice English without stress. I'm Leo.And I'm Gwen. You can listen to us while walking, cooking, or even sleeping. Today's topic is train your brain to speak English. Gwen, quick question. Why do so many people think they can't speak English?Because they think they're not good enough.Ouch, harsh. But is that true? Many people think they can't speak English because they're not smart. Not really. The real problem is translating word by word in their heads.Which is why their brain loads.Buffering.Still buffering. Yes, and in this episode, we will share simple strategies you can implement right away. And help you internalize the language so speaking feels natural, not like solving a math equation. This episode is around B1 level, slightly touching B2. So if it feels hard, take a deep breath. That's just your brain warming up. Stick around till the end for English Word Journey because one word might change your English life.Or at least make you sound cooler, which is basically the same thing. Let's go.The Illusion of FluencyGwen, I've met so many learners who understand almost everything in English. But the moment they have to speak, they freeze like a paused video.Oh, yes, the classic "I know it, I just can't say it" situation.Exactly. Why does that happen? If they can read and listen well, shouldn't speaking be easy, too? You'd think so, but nope. Many people fall into the illusion that being good at studying English grammar means they can speak it.The illusion of fluency? Sounds dramatic.Dramatic, but very real. Think about it. They studied English for 10 years. They can ace grammar tests. They get high exam scores. Parents are proud, teachers are proud, certificates all over the wall. Then someone asks, "How was your day?" The brain just shuts down.Exactly. Because studying from books without speaking practice is like learning to drive only from a manual. You mean they know the theory, but never sat in the driver's seat.Yes.So the problem isn't intelligence. Not at all. It's not an IQ problem. It's a muscle memory problem.Right. Your mouth, tongue, and vocal cords all need training. Think of it as gym training for your mouth. How does this connect to learning English success?Through retention. If you only read words, your brain remembers them passively. But when you say them, your body remembers, too. That doubles your retention.Oh, it's like playing the guitar. The first time you're really clumsy. After practicing a hundred times, you simply pick it up and your hands move automatically.Perfect example. That means learners don't actually lack vocabulary.Yeah, they lack the number of times they open their mouth and actually speak.Wow, the real issue isn't I don't know English, it's I don't practice using English.Oh, everything's starting to make sense now. Right. We've identified the problem clearly. So, what do we actually do?Simple Strategies to Think in EnglishLet's start with a super easy strategy you can practice right away. No preparation, no textbook, no stress.I like the sound of that already.Strategy number one: name objects around you in English. Just look around and say what you see. Desk, door, window, laptop, ceiling, floor. That's it?Simple doesn't mean useless. After that, upgrade to short sentences. For example, "This is my desk," or "My desk is by the door and there's a laptop on it."Nice. Now we have a complete sentence. And here's the important part. When you do this, you're building a direct link between objects and English words. Without translating through your native language. So you're training your brain to recognize English instantly.Exactly. You're helping your brain get used to English as a natural response, not a translated one.Okay, that's actually smart. If we can name simple objects around us, the next step feels very natural. You mean talking to yourself?Yes, talking to yourself. It's our next strategy.Yes, it's powerful. Say things like, "Okay, I need to take a shower." Or, "What should I eat today?" Or even, "Why am I so tired?"I ask that last question in French every morning. This technique is called internal rehearsal, practicing language inside your own safe space.Meaning no one interrupts, no one corrects you, no one judges you.Exactly. You're creating a 100% safe speaking environment. And when your brain feels safe, it learns faster.Well, it's that simple. Just overcome hesitation and you can do it. No shame, no money, no stress.I love strategies like that. Simple, practical, and you can start thinking more in English. You know, talking to yourself is a great part, but it doesn't end there. The real shift happens when your brain starts processing English directly without translating. All right, Gwen. I can't wait. What's the next strategy?

We need to look at these numbers again. I think today is the day. I feel it in my heart. Maybe, just maybe, we finally reached our goal after all this time. Do you think so?All right, love. I have all the documents here. The savings account records, the salary balance, the list of expenses, even the little notebook where we wrote every coin we saved. It feels unreal. For 2 years, we refused eating outside. We walked instead of taking taxis. We avoided vacations. And now, here we are.You know, I am proud of ourselves. Yeah.Yes. Me, too. I am so happy. We sacrificed so much. Do you remember when I wanted a new phone and you wanted a new computer? But we said no. We said, "Our house first." Remember? We held on to that dream like life depended on it. And now, these numbers, Lucas, look. Look carefully. We finally have enough for the initial payment of either a house or an apartment. What? Wait. You mean... Oh God. We did it? After all those nights eating pasta because it was cheap. After saying no to cinemas, no to restaurants, no to unnecessary clothes. After all that effort, we really made it. Did we?Yes, honey. We did it. We saved enough. For real. This is not a dream anymore. This is our new life right in front of us. I feel like crying. I feel like jumping. I feel... I feel like hugging you forever. I am so happy. Come here. Let me hold you. I am proud of us. Of you. Of your patience, your discipline, your strength. We talked about this so many times imagining our home. A place that belongs to us. And now comes the big question. A house or an apartment? We have to choose.I knew it. I knew you would go there fast. You want a house. I know that. You imagine a big backyard, a dog running, a grill, maybe a garden, a big parking space. But, Lucas, I have to tell you, a house is expensive. The maintenance, the repairs, the taxes, everything costs more.Of course, I know that. But a house gives us space, Emma. Real space. We could have our own yard, our privacy. No noisy neighbors. No elevators breaking every month. No rules about pets or music. A house feels like freedom. I dream of waking up and hearing birds, not people fighting in the hallways or footsteps from upstairs. That's an idea I hate.Yeah, I get it. Space is nice. Yes. But think of safety. An apartment often has security, cameras, guards, controlled access. We could feel safer at night, traveling, working. And cleaning a house is a big job. We are only two. An apartment is easier, faster, more manageable for our time and lifestyle.Easy, yes. But small, confined, limited. What if we want a family one day? Kids need the space to run, to play, to fall without hitting a neighbor's door. A house gives life room to grow.I understand. But an apartment gives life stability. Lower cost, fewer repairs, heating and cooling are easier. We could use the saved money to travel someday. Just imagine. Imagine us in Paris or walking on some beach with drinks in our hands. An apartment could help us live more, not work only to pay bills.I totally understand. But we're going for the house anyway.

Vol305.日常英语学习Why is the Chicago River GREEN

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888 Introduction & Chicago River TraditionHello everybody. It's Arian Laginga and welcome back to my YouTube channel. Today we are in the Windy City in Chicago and today we are celebrating St. Patrick's Day. Look at the beautiful green river behind me. They dyed this river green this morning. It used to be blue, but now it's green. The first vocabulary word is dye. This means to change the color of something using a liquid or a substance. And we can use this word in four different ways: with your hair, clothes, food, or in this instance, the Chicago River. For example, they dyed the river green this morning.I dyed my hair last week.In the 1960s, it was super common to tie-dye your shirts. We dyed the frosting on the cake red. Now, if you're writing this word or spelling it, try not to confuse it with the worddie, which means to stop living. Use the correct word dye, which means to change colors. For example, you wouldn't say, "I died my hair." You would say, "I dyed my hair with a Y."Right now, the river looks like a giant green highlighter. It's honestly one of the coolest traditions in the US. A tradition is something a group of people have done for a long time. So, this city has been dyeing the river green for more than 60 years. And why green? Well, green is the color of Ireland, and over 400,000 people come to Chicago to see this. What is St. Patrick's Day?Now, what is St. Patrick's Day? St. Patrick's Day celebrates the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick. This was originally a religious holiday, but now it celebrates Irish culture all around the world. In many cities, people celebrate with parades, music, Irish food, green clothing, and decorations. Chicago actually has one of the most famous celebrations in the world, including the Chicago St. Patrick's Day parade.Interviews:Arian: Lauren, how do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day?Lauren: I just like to have fun and like I go over the top. You know, my great grandma was from Ireland and my great grandpa. I don't know if this is how they would like to celebrate it, but I'm definitely having a good time.Arian: Hi, Ellen. How are you celebrating St. Patty's Day?Ellen: I just ate like 30 Tostito pizza rolls and they were delicious. And I'm out with my friends, all my girlfriends here and we were out on a trolley earlier and it's a good time.A lot of people come here during St. Patrick's Day to be on the river. They have kayaks, canoes, so you can really enjoy the Green River. One fun activity you can do this St. Patrick's Day is go on a boat ride in Chicago. It costs around $45 per person, but you'll have amazing views of the city, the architecture, and the Green River. Wearing Green & Leprechaun FolkloreToday, people are dressed in the color green. But why green? There's actually a funny reason for this. In American culture, if you don't wear green on St. Patrick's Day, you get pinched. Yes, pinched. Basically, when you pinch someone, you grip their skin with your thumb and your index finger. But since I'm not wearing green today, I might get pinched. Ouch. That's why almost everyone today is dressed in green shirts, green hats, green beads, and sometimes even green hair. Why do we do this? Well, it comes from a bit of folklore stories that are passed down through generations. The legend says that wearing green makes you invisible to leprechauns. Invisible means you cannot be seen. If a leprechaun can see you, he might pinch you. So, people started pinching each other as a playful reminder to wear green, so the leprechauns wouldn't get them.Interviews:Arian: Why do people wear green? Like you're all dressed up in green. Your hair, is that your real hair?Interviewee 1: No. You know, I just wanted to like just live, laugh, love, have a good time.Interviewee 2: Well, I mean, I got these overalls at Goodwill. But I got this from Barstool. I go to Dayton. We do this theme where it's like 40s at 4:00 a.m. when we do St. Patty's Day. I got this from a bar like years ago. But well, no, no, no, no. One of these I got from the parade. The other one I lost, but this one I'm staying at my friend's girlfriend's place and like let me have this for free. So, I'm definitely in the holiday mood.Arian: Can you tell me a little bit more about what you're wearing?Interviewee 3: Sure. I have a top hat from Amazon, jacket from Amazon, fake blouse from Amazon, some extra large pants from Amazon, and then a Celine purse and a Chanel necklace. Not from Amazon.Arian: Do you believe in leprechauns? Do you think they're real?Interviewee 3: 100%. I am a leprechaun. So, I believe that they're real. I met a guy from Ireland. He was from Charlie and now he lives in Cork, Ireland. And I asked him about the leprechaun thing. You know, I think it's just a thing where if a husband doesn't come home, they just blame it on the leprechaun. You know what? The leprechaun did XYZ and that's why I didn't come home like to take care of the kids or something.

    Vol304.日常英语学习Don't Quit in the Quiet

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Hey guys, welcome back to Pod Chill. I'm Gwen. And I'm Leo.All right, be honest with me. How many times have you started a new goal, felt like a superhero for exactly 3 days, and then just completely stopped?Ugh, the classic 3-day motivation. We've all been there.Today's topic sounds simple, but honestly, it's incredibly personal. Yeah, today we are talking about quitting, but we're not talking about a big dramatic breakdown. We're talking about the quiet quitting, the "I'll just do it tomorrow" that slowly turns into never.Exactly. People love to think they quit because they're lazy, but that's usually not true. We quit because the progress becomes invisible. The journey gets boring, and suddenly your brain tells you, "Maybe this just isn't for me."So, today we're going to break down the actual stages of starting a goal, why the middle part is the hardest, and a few real practical tips to keep you going when you want to give up. Don't stress if you miss a word, just relax and vibe with us. And make sure to stick around until the very end because we have a vocabulary recap waiting for you. If you enjoyed Pod Chill, don't forget to like, subscribe, and join our family. All right, you ready? Let's get into it.Stage One: The Beginning EnergySo, whenever we set a new goal, any goal, there's usually a pattern, and it happens to almost everyone. But really, in this first stage, everything feels possible. You feel excited, motivated, and full of hope. And I think most people are completely sincere in that moment. Like, they're not pretending. Not at all. They genuinely mean it when they say, "This time I'm serious." I say that every January.Everyone does because in the beginning, the goal still lives in your imagination, and your imagination is very generous.Yeah, it's very generous. In your imagination, you already speak perfect English. You're confident, calm, and fluent. Your future self has great posture. And somehow you're at an international party chatting effortlessly in English with your American idol. Or suddenly, you're sitting in a glass cabin doing simultaneous translation like a complete pro. Always. This sounds great, actually. So, what's the problem? The problem is that feeling is beautiful, but also a little dangerous.Dangerous? How?Because many people think that strong beginning energy is proof that they will keep going. But excitement is not the same as endurance. Starting strong is lovely. Staying strong is different.Stage Two: The Messy MiddleExactly. And that brings us to the next part, the part where things start to get hard.Okay, how hard are we talking?Well, the beginning was exciting, but the middle is repetitive. Oof. You keep showing up, but you're not really seeing much. At first, you feel motivated, then normal, then bored, and then suddenly, you're just staring at your goal like it personally offended you. Like, why are you still here? What do you want from me?Yes. In this stage, people start to delay and start avoiding, then tell themselves, "I'll do it later." Later never quite arrives. Right. The thoughts start coming in. "Maybe this just isn't for me. Maybe I'm not cut out for this."Okay, but isn't that just being honest with yourself? Like, maybe the goal really isn't right.Sometimes, yes, but most of the time it's not honesty, it's just exhaustion mixed with a little disappointment. That's different. Exactly, it's completely different. And the sad truth is, this is exactly where most people stop. They don't quit at the finish line, they give up right here in the messy middle. And that's what makes it so heartbreaking. Because if they just held on a little longer, they would realize there is actually a stage three.

    Vol303.日常英语学习Real-Life English Dialogues

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Conversation 1: The House TourSo, Mr. Thomas, we've just finished the tour of this lovely home. What do you think?Well, first of all, thank you for showing me the house. It's a beautiful place. And I can see that it's in good condition. The neighborhood is quiet. And I like the big windows in the living room. It gives the house a lot of natural light.Yes, that's one of the best features of this house. Many buyers love the open space and the natural lighting. The large windows make the living room feel bright and welcoming. That's true. I also like the modern kitchen. The cabinets are nice. And I love the marble countertops. The backyard is also great. Especially with the small patio area. But, to be honest, I think the house is a little too small for my family.I see. Well, can you tell me more about what you need?Sure, I have a wife, two kids, and a big dog. We need at least four bedrooms. One for me and my wife, one for each of my children, and a guest room for when family visits.Well, that makes sense. This house has only three bedrooms. So, it might not be the best fit for your needs. Don't worry, I understand.Exactly. Also, the living room is a bit small. My kids love to play and we like to have family movie nights. We need a bigger space for that.Understood. And what about the backyard?I love that it has a yard, but I was hoping for something a little bigger. My dog loves to run around and my kids enjoy playing outside. So, a larger backyard would be perfect for us.For sure. Got it. So, you need a bigger house with at least four bedrooms, a spacious living room, and a larger backyard. Anything else?Yes, I also want a house with a garage. This house only has a driveway. But I prefer a closed garage to keep my car safe and to store some tools and equipment. That's a great point. A garage can be very useful, especially for extra storage. Let me ask you, what is your budget for the new home? I'd like to know.I was thinking of something around $400,000. But if I find the perfect home, I might be willing to go a little higher. That's helpful to know. I have a few houses in mind that might be a perfect fit for your family. One of them has four bedrooms, a big backyard, and even a two-car garage. It is beautiful. Would you like to see it?Yes, that sounds much better for my family. When can we see it?I can normally schedule a visit for tomorrow afternoon. But since you look really interested in this house, I can show it to you right now.Really? Oh, that's amazing. Thank you so much. Let's go then.(Later)So, Mr. Thomas, we've just finished touring the house. What do you think?Wow, I have to say this house is exactly what I was looking for. It's spacious, modern, and has everything my family needs. The living room is huge, the backyard is perfect, and I love that there's a two-car garage.I'm glad you like it. This house has four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a big open kitchen. It was built just five years ago. So, everything is in great condition. Plus, it's in a very safe and quiet neighborhood.Yes, I noticed that. The streets are clean and I saw a park nearby. I like it. That's perfect for my kids and my dog.Exactly. Families love this area because there are good schools, parks, and shopping centers nearby. Now, let's talk about the details of purchasing this home. The listed price is $395,000.That's within my budget. But tell me, what is the process of buying the house? I want to understand everything before making a decision. Please.Of course. The home buying process usually follows these steps. First, you submit an offer to the seller, me, with a price you're willing to pay. Sometimes, buyers negotiate the price. Now, if the seller accepts your offer, you need to make a down payment. This is an initial amount of money to secure the house. Usually, it's 10 to 20% of the total price. Then, if you are financing the home with a loan, you'll need to get a mortgage approval from the bank. Then, a professional inspects the house to make sure everything is in good condition. Finally, you sign the legal documents, pay the remaining amount, or finalize the mortgage, and receive the keys to your new home.

    Vol302.日常英语学习Full Ski Trip Vlog

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Hey everybody, it's Arianita Lringa and welcome back to my YouTube channel. Today we're doing a special kind of video. I'm doing a ski trip vlog. Yes, I'm here in Denver, Colorado at Copper Mountain. Let's start skiing.Getting Ready: Tickets and RentalsBefore skiing on the mountain, you need to buy a lift ticket. Yes, I bought a 4-day pass and that cost me around $400. This is my little ID card. It's my lift ticket and it'll go right in my jacket and I'll scan it before getting on the lift. And where do I buy a lift ticket? This is the correct place. Yes, you'll walk inside, go to the customer service desk, and they have several different options like a 1-day pass, a 2-day pass, a 4-day pass, or a season pass. After picking up your lift ticket, you need to go and rent skis, or a snowboard. Over here, they have different snowboards. They have junior, basic, performance, and demo. I do not know how to snowboard. So, today I'm going to rent a pair of skis. Over here, you're going to rent some skis, poles, a helmet, as well as boots. This is the place to grab your ski boots or your snow boots for snowboarding. So, they have different kinds of boots for skis versus a snowboard. I'm a 9.5 or a 10, but I usually go with a 10 because I wear thick socks when I ski.As you can see, they have different sizes of skis. Some are shorter and some are taller. I picked up my skis yesterday. And normally, if you do ski, they should go up to your chin level.Snowboarding vs. Skiing Stances Snowboarding is way different than skiing. For example, you have two skis, one for each leg, but with snowboarding, your feet are sideways on one board. And when you rent a snowboard, they'll ask you how you want your foot position. For example, they'll say,"Are you a regular or are you goofy?"* Goofy: If they ask you if you're goofy, that doesn't mean you make a lot of jokes. No, they're talking about the foot position. If you're goofy, your right foot will be at the front.Regular: If you're regular, your left side will be at the front. Are you goofy or are you regular? Let me know down below. These are my rental skis, as well as my poles. And I'm going to leave them over here by the racks to show you guys around the ski resorts. When you rent skis, how do you know which skis are yours? Because look, there are snowboards here, multiple skis, and sometimes it could be difficult to remember. Well, when you rent skis, you have your initials. My initials are a D. So that way I'll remember them. And I'll also remember the color of my skis as well as the color of my straps, which are red. Let's leave these skis here on the rack. Let's walk around a little bit before we go ski.Exploring Copper MountainCopper Mountain, Colorado is one of the most popular ski resorts in the Rocky Mountains. It's about 75 miles west of Denver and sits at 9,700 ft. It's known for great snow and beautiful views. With over 150 trails and 24 lifts, there's something here for everyone. Copper Mountain also hosts international competitions and is a popular training spot for Olympic athletes. This place is not only known for skiing or snowboarding. No, they have many different restaurants or cafes in case you get hungry and if you do get cold. So, let's go ahead and check out a coffee shop. Something I've noticed here at this ski resort is that the prices are a bit expensive. For example, if I want to buy a bottle of water, this will cost $7. Would you pay $7 for a bottle of water? Let me know down below. At this resort, they also have a huge store that sells jackets, vests, hats, just in case if you forgot anything at home or in case you just want a souvenir from Copper Mountain. Something that I've noticed here at this store is they sell oxygen. So, I'm going to ask Emma. So, why do people buy oxygen here?Emma: Yeah, honestly, we get a lot of people who are coming from lower elevation and literally the air is thinner, so they can get elevation sickness or they find it hard to breathe. It takes a couple days to get used to it. I don't know if this actually does anything, but it does make them feel less like they're dying.Gearing Up and Hitting the SlopesAfter giving you guys a tour around this ski resort, I think we're ready to hit the slopes. But first, I need to put on my ski boots as well as change my gloves because I have heated gloves. And the last thing is a helmet. So, let's go inside and change. This area is where you can put on your ski gear, like your snowboarding boots or your ski boots. If you guys need extra help with your skis or snowboards, then you can come to the tuning center where they have a full tune. They'll give your skis or a snowboard a hot wax. They can also bind your skis and they can also adjust them as well. And if you already know how to adjust your skis or your snowboard, you can just come over here and adjust them with a screwdriver.I changed into my ski boots. I finally am wearing gloves that are nice and warm. I have a helmet on. And I also have my ski goggles. I think it's time to hit the slopes. Let's start skiing. Today is one of the coldest days. It's 18°F. The snow is so fresh and light. We call this powder, which means it's perfect for skiing.I'm carrying my skis and poles and I'm heading to the lift line. Right now, I'm waiting in line to go up the lift. As you can see, the line is pretty long. But that's okay. We have time to wait. And before getting on the lift, you have to remember to bring your lift ticket or your ID card. And I have that right in my pocket to scan. We are getting on the ski lift. You let the chair come behind you. Then you sit down.I am sitting on a chairlift. This is a safety bar so I don't fall off the chairlift. And this is a blue covering to protect me from the snow and the wind. This chairlift is very nice. You have a beautiful view of the trees, of skiers, and the snow. And it's very safe and it takes about 5 minutes to get to the very top of the mountain. I just went up the ski lift. That's the ski lift. And a ski lift takes you all the way up to the top of the mountain. And this is the unloading area. As you can see, snowboarders and skiers are unloading and they're going on to their trails.

    Vol301.日常英语学习Speak with Confidence

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888What's up everyone? Welcome back to Podcast and Chill. I'm Leo.And I'm Gwen. This is our little space for learning English. No stress here, just real talks.Today we're talking about something I'm not great at. Walking into a room full of people......and feeling like you're on the outside looking in.Exactly. My brain immediately goes, "Don't say anything stupid. Just stay quiet."And what happens next?I say nothing. Then I leave thinking, "Why didn't I just talk to them? It's the worst."That's exactly what we're talking about today. How to speak with confidence. But Gwen, here's the weird part. The more I want to be confident, the more tense I get. So why does trying make us freeze? That's the big question, isn't it? Well, we're getting into that. We'll look at what's going on inside our heads and how to change it in simple ways.By the way, this episode is B1 level English. So, if you hear new words, don't panic. We'll break down key vocabulary in our English word journey at the end. For now, just listen and let it flow. You don't need to catch everything. It'll come naturally. All right, ready to talk confidently? Let's do this. So Gwen, do you ever join a conversation but just can't focus? Like your body's in the room nodding and smiling, but your mind's somewhere else.Oh, I know that feeling. It happens to me sometimes.Right? I just don't know why that happened. It's like there's this force or voice controlling my mind. It keeps whispering things to me while everyone else is talking.Whispering what? So, every time I'm about to speak, it shuts me down with something like, "Don't say that. Nobody cares. Just stay quiet. It's safer."Uh-huh. While that voice is whispering, what's happening in the real conversation? It keeps moving without me. I'm standing there like a garden statue, watching life move past me while I'm just frozen.Well, Leo, that means you're actually having two conversations at once. Two at the same time. Whoa.Yeah. So, there's one conversation happening out loud with people. Meanwhile, the other is inside your head with yourself.Hm, feel like I'm arguing with myself more than I'm talking to anyone.I know, but that's normal. You probably think that voice is there because you have nothing to say, right?I mean, yeah, it feels that way sometimes. But that's not true. You do have things to say. The problem is you're too busy thinking about whether you should say something or not.And by the time I decide to speak, the moment's gone.Exactly. The conversation already moved on and you're still stuck on the last topic.True. It's so exhausting. So where does this voice even come from? Like who invited it?Well, it comes from caring too much about what other people might think. Might. Key word. Half the time they're not even thinking about me.Yeah, in your head though. What if I say something wrong? What if they think I'm weird? What if I sound stupid?Stop reading my diary. Seriously, I ask myself those exact questions every single time.Right. So, when you walk into a conversation with your mind full of those thoughts......it makes you feel so timid before you even open your mouth.Exactly. But you're not really a shy person. You're just letting that voice run the show. And when that voice runs the show, there's no room left to actually listen.Bingo. You spend so much time watching yourself that you can't be there with people. So, I'm basically watching a movie of myself instead of being in the actual scene.Yep. Your attention should be on the people you talk to, not on the voice in your head putting you down. But Gwen, it's so hard to stop. It just turns on by itself.I know. The worst part is that those negative thoughts create what I call a mental wall.A mental wall.

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Stop right there. Look at me when I'm talking to you. Don't just walk away like that. Why do you act like I don't exist? I'm your father and lately it feels like you don't respect me anymore.I'm not trying to ignore you. I'm just tired of having the same conversation again and again. Every time we talk, it turns into an argument. And honestly, I don't want that right now. That's exactly what I mean. You avoid me. You don't listen. You don't respond properly. This is not how a son should behave. When I talk, you should pay attention, not act like it doesn't matter.I do listen. I just don't agree with everything you say. And when I try to explain myself, you don't really listen either. It always feels like your opinion is the only one that matters.Because I have more experience. I've lived more. I know how things work. You're still young. You don't understand life yet. And I'm trying to guide you before you make mistakes. But that's the problem. You don't guide me. You control everything. There is a difference between helping someone and deciding everything for them.I'm not controlling you. I'm protecting you. The world is not easy. And if I don't teach you discipline, no one will.Protection shouldn't feel like pressure all the time. Sometimes it feels like I can't even think for myself without you correcting me.So now I'm the problem. After everything I've done for you, after all the sacrifices, you're telling me I'm the problem.I didn't say you are the problem. I'm saying the way you treat me sometimes feels like I'm not allowed to be myself. That's not true. I just expect respect. Basic respect. That's all I'm asking for.Respect goes both ways. It's not just about me listening to you. It's also about you listening to me.I do listen to you. You just don't like what I say, so you call it not listening. No, you hear me, but you don't really understand me. You already have your answer before I even finish speaking. You've changed a lot. Before you used to listen. You used to respect me. You used to care about what I said. Now it feels like you don't care at all.I didn't change. I just started thinking for myself. And when I do that, you don't like it because sometimes your decisions don't make sense. And I can see where they will lead you. I don't want you to fail. But it's my life. Even if I fail, I need to learn from my own mistakes, not just follow everything you say.And what if your mistakes destroy your future? What if one bad decision changes everything? You don't think about that.I do think about that all the time, but I can't live my life based only on fear. It's not fear. It's reality. Life is hard. And if you don't understand that now, you will suffer later.I already feel pressure every day from school, from life, from everything. And when I come home, I feel even more pressure from you.I push you because I believe in you. I know you can do better. I know you can be more. And I don't want you to waste your potential.

It was dusty, it was quiet, and for Patrick's father, the work was brutal. Let's dive into Chapter 1.In the dusty village of Oak Ridge, life was simple but hard. Most people were expected to live and die in the same small houses they were born in. But a boy named Patrick was different. He didn't want to follow the dusty path of everyone else. He wanted to see the world. Patrick was the only child of Maria and Thomas. His father was a quiet man who spent his days breaking stones at a nearby quarry. His hands were covered in cracks and calluses from years of brutal work. His mother, Maria, worked just as hard washing clothes and cleaning houses for wealthier families. Their home was a tiny one-room hut with a leaky roof and mud walls. But for Patrick, it was the starting point of a great journey. While other children played in the dirt, Patrick would sit at the local tea stall, staring at the old crackling television. He saw images of glass skyscrapers and glittering cities. To him, those images weren't just a dream. They were his future. By the time he was 10, Patrick had one goal: to go abroad. To him, that word meant a life where his mother didn't have to wash other people's clothes and his father didn't have to break stones. One evening by the village pond, he shared his dream with his friends. "I'm not going to work at the quarry," Patrick said firmly. "I'm going to go abroad, study at a big university, and live in a building that touches the clouds."His friends didn't cheer. They laughed. "Abroad? You?" The group went silent. Then Leo, one of his classmates, said to him, "Dreaming is for rich people, Patrick. Look at us. We were born for the quarry and the fields." Leo sighed and looked at Patrick's old, dusty feet. "Your father can't even buy you new shoes. How do you expect to buy a ticket to the other side of the world? Stop talking nonsense and face reality."The words hurt, but they didn't stop him. Patrick's teacher, Mr. Palai, was the only one who believed in him. He often lent Patrick books and told him, "Don't let them dim your light. Listen to the voice that tells you what you can do." Every night, lying on a thin mat on the dirt floor, Patrick would look through the small window at the stars. He imagined himself flying through them, leaving the dust of the village behind. He didn't stop dreaming. He just learned to keep his dreams a secret.Vocabulary Discussion: "Brutal"Wow, Emma, that description of Patrick's father really paints a picture. Working at a stone quarry for years. The story calls it brutal work.It sounds exhausting. Brutal. Let's practice the pronunciation: Bru-tal. It's a short word, but it carries a lot of weight, doesn't it?It really does. When we say something is brutal, we mean it is extremely cruel, harsh, or violent. It's work that breaks the body. There is no comfort in it.Exactly. It's not just hard work. A long day at the office might be hard, but working in the hot sun, breaking rocks with your hands, that is brutal. We use this in daily life, too, and not just for work. For example, if the weather is minus 20° and the wind is blowing, you could say, "The winter cold today is absolutely brutal."Or imagine a professional athlete. After a very, very difficult training session where they are completely exhausted, they might tell their coach, "That was a brutal workout." So, if something is brutal, it's so tough that it's almost painful to endure. And that is exactly what Patrick wanted to save his father from.Chapter 2: The Journey AbroadYears passed, but Patrick's fire never went out. While Leo and the others spent their evenings resting, Patrick stayed up with the books Mr. Palai lent him. His hard work finally paid off. Against all odds, Patrick won a scholarship to a university in a famous city across the ocean. The day he left Oak Ridge was quiet. His father handed him a small bag of coins—savings from years of breaking stones. His mother cried as she hugged him, her hands still smelling of soap from washing clothes. Patrick promised them, "I will come back for you."When Patrick stepped off the plane, his heart raced. The city was exactly like the images on the old tea stall television. The buildings were so tall they seemed to touch the stars, and the streets were filled with thousands of people. But for the first time, Patrick felt small. In Oak Ridge, he was the dreamer. Here, he was just a stranger with a strange accent and old clothes.Life abroad was not a movie. It was a struggle. His scholarship covered his classes, but he had no money for food or a proper bed. To survive, Patrick found a part-time job at a busy city restaurant. While other students went to parties, Patrick spent his nights washing greasy dishes until his hands were raw, just like his father's.During the day, he sat in the back of the lecture halls. He was often tired and hungry. Sometimes when the other students spoke fast, he couldn't understand them. He felt self-conscious about his background. He remembered Leo's voice saying, "People like us don't belong here."But Patrick didn't give up. He used his work at the restaurant as a second school. He listened to how the customers talked. He practiced their phrases while he mopped the floors. He wasn't just studying books anymore; he was studying the world. He lived in a tiny cold room, and every night he would look out his window at the city lights. He was exhausted and his back ached from the heavy lifting, but he wasn't breaking stones in Oak Ridge. He was exactly where he said he would be. He was finally on the other side of the world, and he was just getting started.Vocabulary Discussion: "Stepped off" & "Mopping"Wow, Patrick finally made it. I can almost see him standing there at the airport. The story says, "When Patrick stepped off the plane, his heart raced." I loved that phrasal verb, stepped off. It sounds so much more alive than just saying he left the plane. It's that exact moment your foot touches the ground in a new place.Exactly. You can step off a bus, step off a train, or even step off a curb onto the street. It's a very common, natural way to describe exiting a vehicle, right? Imagine you were visiting London for the first time. You might say, "The moment I stepped off the train, I saw Big Ben. It marks the beginning of an adventure."But the adventure wasn't all glitter and lights for Patrick. He had to work. The story says he practiced English while he mopped the floors. Now, Emma, some people might confuse mopping with sweeping, right?

    Vol298.日常英语学习Empty Head Full Mouth

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Hey everyone, welcome back to Podcast and Chill. I'm Gwen. And I'm Leo. And yes, seriously, chill is literally in the name. Sit back and relax.Especially because learning a foreign language already puts enough pressure on your brain.Oh, absolutely. I once spent 30 minutes typing a 15-word message in French.15 words. Let me guess. Type, delete, and type again.Pretty much.I'm sure a lot of our friends know that feeling. But once I had an argument with my French friend, and somehow my French just worked. So, one time you stressed over a message, and another time you spoke well because you didn't care.Yep. It's like the good version of empty head, full mouth. Maybe language learners need that more instead of head full, mouth on mute. That's what today's episode is about. Stop thinking, start speaking. We're talking about why it's hard to communicate in a foreign language and some simple tools and habits that help you improve your speaking. No boring textbook tips, just real life ideas that actually work. Before we start, leave a comment with your name, where you're from, and why you're learning English. We'd love to hear from you.And if you stress about your level, don't. Today's episode is B1, but strong beginners are very welcome, too. We'll also go over some key vocabulary at the end, nice and slow, so stay with us.All right, let's get started. The Coffee DisasterSo, I have to tell you about a small coffee disaster I had.Gwyn and disaster. That already sounds interesting. Go on.A few years ago, I traveled to another country. At that time, I was learning the local language.Oh, and you tried to use it during the trip.Of course, I wanted to buy a coffee, so I went into a cafe.Ordering coffee sounds simple. That's what I thought. I practiced the sentence in my head about 10 times. I felt ready. Very confident.I'm still waiting for the disaster.Well, when it was my turn, everything went wrong. You forgot the words.No. Worse. I said all the words clearly, just in the wrong order. I basically said coffee by me.Ah, so you didn't buy coffee. You offered yourself.Exactly. I was very embarrassed, but the cafe staff was kind. He smiled and helped me order.Or maybe you weren't the first person who tried to sell themselves for coffee.Probably not, but his kindness helped me feel confident again. Why Our Brains Shut Down: Fear & PerfectionismI'm glad. But why does our brain shut down like that? That seems pretty common among language learners.I thought about that, too. And I think there are two main reasons. All right, tell me.The first one is fear.Fear of making mistakes.Yes. And fear of people judging you or thinking you sound stupid. That fear usually comes from the past. That's right. Maybe a strict teacher corrected you in a hard way or friends laughed when you made a mistake. And after that, your mouth just closes. You stop trying. That makes sense. But not everyone has this kind of fear. Some people have a different problem.Really? What kind? They're not scared of mistakes. They're scared of not being perfect.Ah, perfectionism.Yes. Perfectionism means you want perfect grammar, perfect pronunciation, perfect everything. And you wait until the perfect sentence is ready.Right. But when you're finally ready, the moment is gone. It's like waiting for the perfect bus. You wait and wait, but all the other buses pass by and they all go to the same place. That's spot-on. You miss your chances because you're waiting for perfection. So, you stay silent.Yes. Fear and perfectionism. Those are the two big reasons people don't speak. That actually explains a lot. Before we continue, friends, if you're enjoying this episode, hit the like button and subscribe so you don't miss more useful conversations like this. Now stay with us because the next part is about simple things you can do to stop thinking and finally start speaking. What exactly can we do?

    Vol297.日常英语学习The Airport Argument

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Today you will listen to a real English conversation at the airport. Two men take the same suitcase, or at least they think so. They start to argue. They get angry and they don't listen to each other. But there is a problem: while they are fighting, something very important happens. And when they finally realize it, it's too late. Let's listen to their conversation.Person A: Hey, excuse me. What are you doing? That is my suitcase.Person B: What? No, this is my suitcase. I just took it from the belt.Person A: You are wrong. I saw it first. It is black, medium size, and has a small scratch.Person B: Wait, what? My suitcase is also black, medium size, and it has a scratch, too.Person A: Then you are confused. This is mine. Look at the handle. It is a little broken. That is my suitcase.Person B: Oh, really? Because my suitcase also has a broken handle.Person A: This is impossible.Person B: Yes, this is very strange. Now look at the tag. It says Daniel. That is my name.Person A: Wait, let me see. Uh oh. Okay. But maybe that is an old tag.Person B: No, it's not old. I remember this suitcase very well. I traveled with it last month.Person A: Me too. I use this suitcase all the time.Person B: Then open it.Person A: No, you cannot open my suitcase.Person B: Then how can we know?Person A: Um, wait. I have a small red sticker on my suitcase.Person B: A red sticker?Person A: Yes, right here. Look.Person B: Oh, wait. My suitcase has a green sticker.Person A: Then this is not yours.Person B: Oh, no. I think I made a mistake.Person A: Yes, I think you did.Person B: I'm really sorry. Our suitcases look exactly the same.Person A: It's okay. It happens sometimes.Person B: I feel very embarrassed right now.Person A: Don't worry. At least now everything is clear. So, where are you going?Person B: I'm going to New York. And you?Person A: Wait, what? Me, too?Person B: Seriously? You're kidding, right?Person A: No, it's true. Same destination.Person B: Wow, that's crazy. Maybe we are on the same flight. Um, let me see. What is your flight number?Person A: My flight number it is AA245. And yours?Person B: Mine too. What a coincidence.Person A: No way. We were arguing and we didn't even check the time. What time is it now?Person B: Let me see. Oh no.Person A: What? What happened?Person B: The flight boards in 5 minutes.Person A: What? Let's go now.Airport Staff: Excuse me, gentlemen. You cannot stay here. You are blocking the way.Person A: Oh, I'm sorry. We were confused about a suitcase.Person B: Yes, sorry. We are going to flight AA245 to New York.Airport Staff: AA245. Yes, that flight already left.Person A: What? There's no way.Person B: No, that's not possible.Airport Staff: I'm sorry. The gate is closed. The plane is gone.Person A: We were here arguing. We didn't pay attention to the time because of the suitcase. We missed the flight.Person B: This is a disaster.Person A: Yes, the worst day.Airport Staff: You need to talk to the airline desk now.Person A: Ah, okay. Thank you.Person B: Well, at least now we have the correct suitcase.Person A: Yeah, but no flight.

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Hello everyone and welcome to English Pod. My name is Marco. My name is Katherine. And today we're talking about someone who's very, very dirty. That's right. And actually, not only are we talking about something being dirty, but also that we want to clean everything.Okay. So, you'll learn how to call someone who likes clean things in English today. Let's take a listen to our dialogue.DialogueFriend: This bathroom is a pigsty. Helen, why do you keep flushing the toilet? What's wrong?Helen: I just can't stand it. It's really gross in here. There's a stain on the toilet seat and the floor was wet and slippery, so I cleaned it.Friend: You did what? Helen, I know it's gross, but I've seen many public washrooms that are much worse. Why are you cleaning the countertop? Are you out of your mind?Helen: I can't help myself. It's just so disgusting in here.Friend: Helen, this is not like your own bathroom. Just leave it to the cleaners.Helen: Okay, hang on. I'm just going to quickly wipe the sink and sweep the floor.Friend: You're such a neat freak. I'm out of here.Language TakeawayAll right, we're back. So, this girl was very much of a neat freak, and we're going to take a look at that word a little bit later on. Why don't we go back to the very beginning and take a look at some vocab on Language Takeaway. The first word we have here on Language Takeaway today is pigsty.Right. "This bathroom is a pigsty."Okay. So a pigsty is a place where pigs live. Now obviously, the bathroom is not really a place where pigs live. So if you call something a pigsty, you're saying that it's very dirty. You're saying it's disgusting. It's very, very dirty, like a pigsty. So actually, if you go to a farm and you see where all the pigs are, that is actually called a pigsty, right? There's mud and dirt, and yeah, that's a pigsty. So someone who is very, very dirty, you can also call a pig.Okay, now she was saying that the bathroom is so dirty and it's really gross in here.Okay, so gross means something she doesn't like. It's really dirty and, you know, makes her uncomfortable. So something that doesn't taste good, you can say it's gross. That's right. So I don't like to eat snake. I think eating snake is gross.Okay, very good. So something that is gross is something that's not really nice. Maybe it tastes bad or it smells bad. Something that is bad in general.Okay. So she went on to talk about the toilet seat and that there was a stain on the toilet seat.Okay, a stain is usually a bad thing. It means that there's a color or a mark that's permanent or maybe can be washed away on something. So, in this case, the toilet seat has a mark on it. Maybe it's brown or yellow. But I can also say, um, I was drinking wine and I spilled the wine on my shirt, and it left a stain. So, now there's always this red part on my shirt. It won't go away.Okay. So, a stain is a mark that usually won't go away.

    Vol295.日常英语学习Stop Translating in Your Head

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Hey everyone, welcome back to Learning English Podcast. I'm Leo.And I'm Gwen. Great to have you with us today. So Leo, do you have anything interesting to share today?Oh, yes. I was talking to a foreign friend yesterday. He's learning English, but he has some problems with speaking.Let me guess. He has trouble speaking, but he can read and listen well, right? How did you know, Gwen? He said, "My brain is fast when I listen, but when I speak, it just dies."Uh, yes. The classic brain shutdown. Many English learners struggle with that.He told me he keeps translating in his head. He thinks in his mother tongue, French, and then translates word by word into English. And in the end, he can't say a single word in English. Right.Exactly.That's translation mode. Many learners fall into this trap.I realized he's not alone. A lot of learners feel the same way.Yes, Leo. So, today we're here to answer one big question. How can you train your brain to think in English without translating first? That's an important question, Gwyn. This episode might be a bit longer, but it's packed with key ideas and practical tips you can actually use. It's designed for B1 learners, but strong beginners can follow along, too. We'll explain useful vocabulary and recap everything at the end.All right, ready to stop translating and start thinking in English?Let's do it.Have you ever had this moment, Leo? You can read books, watch videos, even listen to podcasts in a foreign language just fine. But the moment you need to speak, your brain suddenly goes offline.Oh, I know that feeling. That was exactly me when I started learning a new language. And many people learning English feel the same way.Yes, they often think, "I can't speak English well because I'm not good at languages." But that's a lie your brain tells you. If you can understand English when you read or listen, your brain is clearly not stupid.Exactly. Speaking problems are usually not about intelligence. They're about thinking habits and training. Most learners were trained to understand English, not to actually use it. They memorize grammar rules, learn long vocabulary lists, and do exercises where the answer is already there. So their brain becomes really good at recognizing English but terrible at producing it.Yes. Then comes the speaking moment. The brain says, "Okay, first think in your native language, then translate it into English, then check the grammar, then panic." That's four steps for one sentence. No wonder the brain freezes. It's like trying to run while doing math in your head. Of course, it feels slow, stressful, and exhausting. The real problem is not you're bad at English. It's your brain is using the wrong system.Your brain needs a new habit. Thinking directly in English, even if the English is simple or imperfect. And the good news is habits can be retrained. You don't need to be smarter. You just need to train differently. That means anyone can speak English fluently if they change the way they practice. I can't wait to know if we want our brain to think in English. What's the first step?Easy. You need to feed it first.Feed it like breakfast.Yep. English doesn't magically appear in your brain overnight. Your brain needs food. And that food is input.Input through your ears and your eyes. Listening and watching.Right. And here's the key point. The input must be easy and suitable.Yes. Many learners make the same mistake. They jump straight into very hard content and think, "It's okay. I'll get used to it." But instead of getting used to it, their brain just gives up and says, "Nope, too much. I'm out."That's why we recommend starting with easy English, even A1 level content. Some learners feel shy about that. They think A1 is too basic for me.But that step is incredibly important. Think of it like food. If the food is too heavy, your brain can't digest it.Easy English is like light, healthy food. It helps your brain get used to English sentence structures and the natural rhythm of the language. For listening, simple podcasts are amazing. For example, our learning English podcast. You hear common sentences again and again, and repetition is not boring. It's powerful.Exactly. Your brain starts to recognize patterns without translating. You know what? Music works really well, too. Especially songs with repetitive lyrics.Oh, that reminds me of my cousin.Your cousin?

    Vol293.日常英语学习Talk About Phobias

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Hello everyone and welcome to English Pod. My name is Marco. My name is Katherine. And today we're talking about fear. That's right. Today we're going to talk about phobias. Different types of fears that you have. Many people are scared of different things and that's what we're going to talk about today.Okay. So let's listen to today's dialogue and find out what the people in our dialogue are very, very afraid of.DialoguePerson A: Are you excited about your trip next month?Person B: Yes and no. I can't wait to go to Europe, but at the same time, I'm terrified.Person A: Why?Person B: Well, I have aerophobia. I have a chronic fear of flying.Person A: Oh, really? I have an uncle who is also terrified of flying. It's not that bad, though. I mean, it is pretty scary to be up in this big machine flying through the air at 700 mph. I actually have arachnophobia.Person B: You're scared of spiders? I actually have two more phobias. Acrophobia and glossophobia.Person A: I guess that explains why you're afraid of flying. But public speaking is not that bad.Person B: Are you kidding? When I get on stage, my palms start to sweat. I get really nervous and I can hardly speak.Person A: Well, I must confess that I am a bit claustrophobic. I hate being in an elevator for more than 5 seconds.Person B: We are such weirdos, right?Language TakeawayAll right, we're back. So, let's take a look at those phobias on Language Takeaway. The first phobia that we have is called aerophobia. That's right. Aerophobia. And that means that you are scared of flying.Okay. So, we can tell because phobia means, you know, fear of something. But it's not just a fear. It means that if you go on an airplane, you get very very upset. You think that you're going to die. That's right.Okay. And so phobia is a very serious fear. But aero- is like a prefix. So aerophobia is a fear of going on airplanes. That's right. And another phobia that we have is arachnophobia. So again, as you see in the prefix, arachno- is related to a spider. That's right. So this comes from the origins of English. I'm not sure if it's Greek or Latin, but arachnophobia, like arachnid, has to do with spiders. So I'm afraid of spiders if I have arachnophobia. That is right. And now taking a look at two more types of phobias. Here we have acrophobia and glossophobia. So let's take a look at the first one. Acrophobia. So acrophobia. Acro- has to do with heights. So I don't like to be on tall buildings. I don't like to maybe look down from heights. That means I'm afraid of heights. That's right. You're afraid of being at a very high altitude. Acrophobia. Now, glossophobia is an interesting one because this one, you are scared of public speaking or you get very nervous when you're in front of a group of people, right? So, this is actually a very, very common fear. But if it's a serious fear, it's a phobia. So, glossophobia means that when you go in front of people, you get very very anxious, upset, your stomach hurts, you have wet hands. So, that's a very serious fear. That's right. And for our last phobia, we have claustrophobia. I think it is one of the most common ones. If you have claustrophobia, you're afraid of smaller tight spaces. That's right. So, people who suffer from claustrophobia don't like to be in small tight places like elevators for example, tunnels.Tunnels. Mhm. So, now you brought up an interesting point. Our last phobia we said claustrophobic and now we must make the difference between, for example, claustrophobia and being claustrophobic. So a phobia, you hear the ending -ia, claustrophobia is a noun. Okay, that means I can talk about "I have it. I have this fear." But when you're talking about the adjective, something that describes you, you would have to use the -ic ending. I'm claustrophobic. He is acrophobic. They are aerophobic.Okay, so that is the adjective form. So if I say I have arachnophobia, it means I have this fear, or I can say I am arachnophobic.Great. So this can be used for all other kinds of phobias. So when you learn those words remember that there are two different kinds. There's the -ia (phobia) which is the noun, and -ic which is the adjective. All right, let's listen to our dialogue again and we'll be back in a bit with Fluency Builder.

    Vol292.日常英语学习Small Habits for Real Progress

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Leo, have you ever looked back at your day and thought, "What did I actually do today?"You mean like nothing bad happened, no big mistakes, but nothing really moved forward either.Exactly. No dramatic failure, just another day gone. That sounds like wasting your life with no sound.Yes. It doesn't come with a loud crash. It comes from small habits repeated every single day. It's like one more click, one more scroll, one more later. And suddenly tomorrow becomes a habit. Not going to lie, but everyone's done that.Well, the most dangerous part isn't failure. Then what is it?It's the feeling that you're waiting for the right time. Waiting until you're less busy to study English. Waiting until you feel confident enough to start. Waiting until you're not tired to change.Yep. Yet the truth is we're not actually waiting. We're procrastinating.Exactly. Waiting without action is like sitting at a train station watching the board update again and again, but never buying a ticket.Yep. You feel ready. You feel close and that's the illusion. No ticket, no train. And while you're sitting there, time keeps moving. It never waits. So, today we're breaking down this waiting trap. Why it tricks you into thinking you're making progress and how to finally leave that station.Love this topic, Leo.And don't worry if you can't understand everything in this episode. Just stay with us until the end. We've prepared a PDS and a word journey guide to help you reflect on your habits, redesign your actions, and finally step onto your train. So, what are we waiting for? Let's begin. Before we talk about big goals or big failures, let's start with something much smaller. Not the dramatic mistakes, not the life-changing decisions. Just five more minutes.Really, Gwen? Just five more minutes? That doesn't sound much.Exactly. And it doesn't feel dangerous, right? One more scroll, one more video, one small task pushed to later.Yeah. None of that feels like ruining your life. And that's the trap. The trap of it's comfortable.Well, it does make sense to me. I mean, we all want everything to feel easy. How could it even be a trap?Oh, Leo, it's because small comfort now always feels better than long-term progress later.I see what's happening. Everything feels easy, so we tell ourselves, "Relax. You deserve a break. Start tomorrow."And tomorrow looks exactly like today.Yep. Individually, those moments look harmless. But together, they create something bigger.Sounds scary. So, what's that bigger thing? It's not some big collapse. It's quieter than that. A slow drift. That sounds deep. Not crashing, not burning out, just slowly drifting away from the person you said you wanted to become. So, you're not failing, you're just drifting.Exactly. And drifting is dangerous because a slow drift doesn't feel like danger. It feels familiar. It feels safe. And that's why you don't fight it.So drifting doesn't always look like laziness. No, sometimes it looks like effort. It looks like planning, researching, getting ready.Wait, that sounds confusing. How can drifting look like we're actually putting in effort?Drifting rarely looks like doing nothing. It often looks responsible, strategic, thoughtful. You feel busy. You feel productive. So busyness isn't the same as movement. That's right. And when activity replaces action, you end up trapped in the illusion of progress. That sounds a little too real.Yep. Sounds just like your old buddy Daniel.Oh yeah, Daniel. Always got a plan and a bunch of study stuff ready. But honestly, that sounds more organized than me, right? He looks so serious. Do you still remember how you met him 6 months ago?Well, I expected him to be speaking English with me, but it turned out he was still buried in all that study stuff. You see what I mean? He wasn't lazy. He just kept preparing, but never really started. No real conversations, no mistakes, no uncomfortable moments. So, he felt busy but wasn't actually moving.Exactly. He was getting ready to swim but never jumping in because jumping in is scary. And that's the problem. Planning feels like progress. But eventually, a perfect schedule just turns into a hiding spot. And it feels safe. Maybe too safe.Well, when repeated long enough, that spot becomes a cage. You don't even try to escape.A cage? Come on, how can a cozy plan become a cage?Tell me why not. At first, it feels safe, warm, inviting. You think, "I'm prepared. I'm organized."Yeah, that sounds comfortable.Exactly. Cozy even. But the danger is subtle. Slowly, the windows close, the light fades, the air feels heavier.Whoa. So, it's like a room that slowly shrinks around you.Yes. Comfort that lasts too long becomes chains you don't even notice. And the worst part, you don't even realize you're trapped. So, we are stuck in that cage, still holding on to our dreams and expectations that we will do something someday.Yes. And that's the tricky part. Dreams are like fruit sitting on a table. Bright, ripe, giving off a sweet, tempting aroma.Ah, so we just keep smelling it, enjoying the scent, but not actually eating it.Exactly. Every day we admire it from afar. We plan, we imagine, we savor the idea, but we never take action to peel it, to taste it, to enjoy it fully. And the longer we wait, the more it quietly rots slowly, almost without noticing. That sweet aroma fades. The colors dull. The fruit starts to decay.Wow. So, our dreams don't die because of failure. They die because we get stuck in comfort. Just smelling them every day instead of taking a bite.Exactly. The danger isn't dramatic failure. It's the slow drift. Day by day, they quietly eat away at the dreams we thought we'd reach.

You know that I am not young anymore, but every birthday feels like a blessing. My bones hurt a little. My knees sound like an old door. [laughter]Yet my heart still feels strong.I woke up early today.I made myself a coffee, opened the windows, stretched a little, and felt the sunlight on my face.I love sunny days. They are great.I told myself, another year, another chance to live. And you, my son, thank you for coming to see me.Really, I know you have a lot to do and maybe you don't have much time, but you still make time to come and see your old father.Thank you.Dad, how could I not come to see you on your birthday? Are you kidding?Thank you, son. This means a lot to me. You know that.Tell me, how is your life? How is work? How's everything going for you?Things are fine. Work is stressful, yes. But we keep going. You're right. Life goes fast. But I try to enjoy moments like this.Happy birthday. First of all, you look good today. Not old, just wiser.I brought you a few presents. Small things but from the heart. It's something you have been asking for. I hope you like it.Thank you, my boy. I appreciate every visit, every gift, every word. You know, sometimes I feel lonely here in this big house. The walls are quiet, the nights are long, but when you come, everything feels alive. So tell me, what did you bring inside that bag?I told you it's your gift. It's something you told me you wanted.Really? Um, what could it be? I have everything. [laughter]I've got a sweater for winter, a scarf for the cold mornings, and a hat for when I sit in the garden. You know, I like the sun.Good for you. I am happy you got many presents today, Dad.Okay, here's your gift. I'm going to check out your TV like you asked.Oh yes, please. That TV is not working. Can you check it, please?Sure, Dad. I'm going now. Rodrigo is over there playing. I will call him so he can talk to you. I'll be right back.Thank you, son. You are the best.Where is Rodrigo?Grandpa, happy birthday. How are you? I miss you.My boy, you grew again. You look taller, smarter, brighter.Come here. Tell me about school, about your friends, about your life. You know, my birthday is better now that you are here.School is okay. Sometimes boring, sometimes fun.I like science, but math is harder. I barely understand my teacher. But Grandpa, tell me, what gifts did you get today?Let me see. Your father brought me a present. And I also got a sweater, a scarf, a hat. They are all beautiful gifts. And there is one box I haven't opened yet. Maybe we can open it together.Yes. Open it, please. Is it my dad's gift? I want to know what it is.Yes, I will open it. I am sure he brought me something nice.A smartphone, but I don't even know how to turn it on.Grandpa. Wow, this is amazing. It's the newest model. You can take photos, record videos, call family, watch videos. This is like a door to the world. I am surprised. Do you like it?Yes, I like it. I wanted one for so long. Finally, I have it.I have a friend, Ernesto, 80 years old, older than me.Yet, he became a content creator. Can you believe it?He makes videos, talks about life, and travels the world with the money he earns.Cruises, beaches, beautiful cities. I thought, why not me?Maybe I can share my stories, too. It's not a bad idea, right? But I don't know how to use this thing. It is like magic to me.Grandpa, I can teach you. I'm not an expert, but I know the basics.Give me the phone. Let's start today. I will teach you how to use it.Could you do that for me? Thank you very much. I will appreciate it.All right, let's learn step by step.

Are you going to work from there?Yes, I'll be working online. So, I'm taking my laptop with me.Are you going to live alone? No, my cousin is joining me. We're going to share the space. What are you going to do about electricity? We're going to install solar panels next week. And what about food? We're going to buy supplies every Saturday. It sounds exciting. It is. We're going to try something different this year.We used to spend so much time outside.Do you remember our old neighborhood?Of course. We used to spend so much time outside back then.Yes, especially during the summers, we were always riding our bikes or playing in the park. The park was our favorite place. We used to sit by the fountain after school talking for hours.Yes. And that little ice cream stand near the entrance. We used to go there almost every weekend.Yeah, their ice cream was delicious. Life felt different then. People talked more and the streets were always full of children. That's true. Do you remember Mrs. Thompson? She used to give us cookies when we helped her with groceries.Yes, she was always so kind. I miss those days so much.Me, too. But at least we have great memories.I've never tried thatHave you ever slept in an ice hotel?Yes, I have. It was wild.Really? I've never tried that.I've visited one twice. Were you cold all night?Surprisingly, no. I slept very well. That's unbelievable. Did you take any pictures?Yes, I took many photos. Here they are.Wow, they look amazing. I've always wanted to go to an ice hotel. You totally should. It's one of those bucket list things. What does it look like?I heard you finally finished building your studio in that old oak tree. Is it true?Yes, I completed it last weekend. That's amazing. What does it look like? It's built about 4 m above the ground. There's a big balcony around it with a strong railing to keep it safe. A wooden ladder goes up to the balcony. That already sounds impressive. What about the inside?Inside there's a small room with three windows. Right in the center there's a nice desk where I work. That sounds really cozy.It is. I also added a bookshelf, a soft couch, and some hanging lights. At night, the lights glow softly and the whole studio feels warm and peaceful. Now I'm even more curious to see it.It must be something importantLook, there's a package at your door. That's strange. I didn't order anything. It must be from your sister. It might be, but she usually calls first. It can't be a mistake. Your name is on it.You're right. It must be something important. It might be a delivery from your office. It can't be from work. I finished all my projects last week. Then it must be a gift from someone special.Hmm. It might be, but I can't imagine who would send me one.Well, there's only one way to find out. Open it now.Makes your day, doesn't it?Hey Sam, do you remember that cute dog that followed us home last week?Yeah, the little brown one that kept barking in front of the park.Exactly. I actually met the owner who lives on Maple Street. She was out searching for him because he'd run away again.Oh, wow. He really did look super friendly, though. Just completely lost. She was so worried. Poor thing. She thanked me over and over. That's sweet. I'm really glad the dog we helped is back home safe now. Animals that get lost can get so scared.Totally. It feels good knowing the little guy that we found is happy and wagging his tail again.Yeah. Makes your day, doesn't it?Where do you live?Where do you live, Alex?I live near the soccer stadium. It's loud on game nights, but the energy is amazing. What about you?I live in a small apartment near the city library. Very quiet. That sounds peaceful. Do you like it?I do, but sometimes it feels a little boring. Nothing exciting ever happens.Well, if you want excitement, you should visit my neighborhood on a match day. People are singing, cheering, and grilling food outside. That actually sounds fun. Maybe I'll come see it sometime. You should. And after the game, we can grab burgers at this late-night place nearby. They make the best ones in town. Now you've convinced me. Quiet libraries are great, but burgers and soccer sound better.

    Vol289.日常英语学习From Imagination to Action

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Hey Gwen, have you ever just been lying on the couch staring at the ceiling thinking about big dreams? Like building a whole empire?OMG, did you put a hidden camera in my house or something? No, I'm asking because I had an afternoon exactly like that.Oh, please. I don't stop at building an empire. In my mind, I'm also standing on a stage winning an award, giving the most inspiring speech ever. But in real life, we're just lying there scrolling Tik Tok until our thumb gets tired. Right.True. It's like two different people fighting inside one body. One side is ambitious Gwen, who wants success so badly. The other is lazy Gwen who just wants to sleep in.I know a lot of you feel the same way.Guys, if you feel discouraged because you think you're lazy, I just want to say you are not alone. Maybe you have a lot of big questions in your head right now. Why can we imagine success in such clear detail, but we can't even do something simple like open a book? Today we're sharing simple strategies to outsmart your brain and see results fast. You can just listen, relax, and still change your mindset. Are you ready, Leo?Ready. Let's start this journey to rewire your brain.First, I want to clear everyone else's name a little. Leo, do you really think we are born lazy?I'm pretty sure we are, Gwen. Sometimes I feel like I have a lazy gene that just waits for a chance to show up.Come on, put that negative thought away. Science shows that our brain is actually very responsible and it's not lazy in a bad way.Are you kidding me? It stops me from studying and tells me just go to sleep when I need to work. And you say it's responsible. It sounds strange, but it makes sense. You have to go back to prehistoric times for a minute. The human brain was designed with one main goal: help us survive. What does that have to do with lying on the couch and not studying English?Well, in ancient times, food was rare and danger was everywhere. To survive, the brain always tried to save energy. It keeps energy in case you suddenly need to run away from a tiger.Oh, so the brain sees energy as something very valuable and it doesn't want me to waste it on things that are not urgent for survival.Exactly. When you make a big plan, like 1,000 hours of speaking practice, your brain doesn't see career growth. It sees a huge overload and turns on the alarm. Danger. Too much energy. That explains a lot. Every time I open my study app, my eyes suddenly get sleepy, even if I just woke up.Yes. And it pulls you back to your phone because scrolling Tik Tok uses much less energy.Ah, and looking at a one-year goal feels like standing in front of a 42 km marathon.Yes, you're not scared of running. You're scared of running 42 km on the first day. That feeling is a real mental barrier. Just thinking about it makes me want to sleep to save energy. It's a great deal for my brain, but a disaster for my dreams. Right, Gwen?Yeah. Besides saving energy, there's another hidden enemy that is just as strong. It's called perfectionism.Oh, perfectionism. I'm the king of that. I always want everything to be perfect before I start. How does your perfectionism delay your study time?Well, I always tell myself I'll start when I feel fully ready. Sometimes I even wait for a perfect opportunity because I'm afraid to start. After everything is finally perfect, what do you do next? Then I feel too tired. So I tell myself I'll do it tomorrow with better energy. That's the trap. In reality, perfectionism is just fear of failure wearing a nice mask. What? I thought I was just someone with high standards. How is that fear of failure?Because you're afraid that if you start and don't do well, you'll have to admit you're not that good. Perfectionism doesn't make you better, Leo. It only makes you start later than everyone else.Oh. Oh, so my perfectionism was actually fear of failure pretending to be high standards.Yeah. Instead of waiting to be perfect, accept mistakes as part of growth. No one is born ready to run a marathon without falling.I get it now. So friends, from now on, you should allow yourself to be a bad beginner as long as you start. That's the first step to truly outsmart your brain. When we remove the pressure to be perfect, we finally have space to take action. So, what should we do next? I'm afraid the sofa will pull me back in again. We need action strategies. The first thing I want you to try is this: write small success stories. That sounds kind of big and serious. Do I need to sign a million dollar contract before I can call it success? Not at all. We often misunderstand what success really means. Our mistake is that we only recognize huge goals. For example, you probably write, "I will be fluent in English in one year." Right?

    Vol288.日常英语学习The Innocent Liar

获取全部文本资料公众号搜索:yymaster888Let's start from the beginning. Where were you last night at 8:30 p.m.? And what were you doing at that exact moment? At 8:30 p.m. I was walking near Central Avenue. I was looking at the shop windows and I was checking my phone. I wasn't running and I wasn't hiding. I was just walking slowly.Who were you walking with? Were you meeting someone? Or were you going somewhere alone? Tell me.I wasn't alone. I was meeting someone. I was spending time with a friend. We were talking and laughing. We weren't doing anything illegal. While you were walking near Central Avenue, a man reported that someone was stealing his cell phone and wallet. Were you standing close to him? Were you watching him?No, I wasn't standing near him and I wasn't watching him. I was focusing on my conversation. I didn't even notice anyone losing anything.Witnesses said you were looking around nervously. Why were you looking around like that? Were you waiting for the right moment?I wasn't waiting for anything like that. I was looking around because the street was busy. Cars were passing, people were crossing, and I was just being careful. What was your friend doing while you were walking? Was she talking to you the whole time? I need to know.Yes, she was talking to me. She was telling me about her day and I was listening. We were both walking slowly. She wasn't touching anyone's bag or pockets. What was she wearing? Were you holding something in your hands? She was wearing a dark jacket and jeans. I was holding my phone. At 8:30 p.m., cameras show you stopping near the corner. What were you doing there? We were stopping because she was tying her shoe. I was waiting for her. While she was tying her shoe, were you standing close to the victim?I was standing next to her. I wasn't near the victim. I wasn't even looking at him.The victim said someone was bumping into him. Were you bumping into people while you were walking? No, I wasn't bumping into anyone. The street was crowded and people were moving fast. Maybe someone else was pushing him, but it wasn't me.Where were you going after you left the corner? Were you heading to a restaurant?Yes, we were going to a small cafe nearby. We were planning to sit and talk. What was your friend's name? Was she working with you?She wasn't working with me and I don't want to say her name. She has nothing to do with this situation. I can't tell you her name. Why are you refusing to tell me her name? Are you protecting her?I was protecting her privacy. She wasn't stealing anything. Were you both running when the victim was shouting for help? No, we were already sitting at the cafe when we heard someone shouting. The cafe owner said a couple was sitting by the window. Were you sitting by the window?Yes, we were facing the street. We were watching people walking outside.
