Welcome back to the podcast. I'm Henry. And I'm Maria. And today, we're talking about one of the most confusing feelings in the world. A feeling that doesn't care if you're surrounded by friends or sitting completely alone. But before we start, let me ask you something, Maria. When I say the word lonely, what's the first picture that comes to your mind?Honestly, an empty room. Someone sitting by themselves. Maybe an older person with no one to talk to.Right. That's what most of us imagine. But what if I told you that picture is completely wrong?Wrong? How?Because I'm going to tell you about a night I had a few months ago, and I promise you, I was not alone. Picture this. I'm at a restaurant with a group of old friends. The place is packed. Plates are clattering, glasses are clinking. Everyone is talking over each other, telling stories, having a great time. That sounds like a perfect evening. That's what I thought, too. I was joining the conversation. From the outside, everything looked fine. So, what happened? That's the thing. Nothing happened. Nobody argued. Nobody was rude. It was just a normal dinner. Then why does it stick in your mind?Because when I got home, I sat on my bed and stared at the wall for a long time. And I asked myself a question that wouldn't leave me alone. Why do I feel so lonely after spending 3 hours with people I care about?Wow. That's a heavy question. It is. And for a long time, I thought there was something wrong with me. I thought, I have friends, I have a good life, I don't have the right to feel this way.But you did feel that way.Exactly. And that's when I realized something important. Loneliness isn't about being alone. It's about feeling disconnected.Say that again.Loneliness isn't about being alone. It's about feeling disconnected. You can be surrounded by people and still feel like you're on a different planet. That changes everything. Because if that's true, then the solution isn't just to find more people. It's to find deeper connections. And that leads us to the big question. The one that I think about all the time now. What's that?If we're more connected than ever before through phones, social media, messaging apps, why do so many of us still feel so incredibly lonely? That's the million-dollar question, isn't it?It is. And I think the answer might surprise you. Because it has a lot to do with something we all do every single day. Something we think is helping us, but might actually be making things worse.Okay, now you have to tell us. What is it?We're going to get there. But first, I want you to think about your own life. When was the last time you felt truly connected to someone? Not just talking, but really seen and understood. That's a good question. I think we've all had moments where we're having a conversation, but the other person is scrolling through their phone. Or we're with friends, but everyone's just posting photos of the moment instead of actually being in it.Yes, and that's exactly where the problem starts. We're present, but we're not really present. We're together, but we're not really together.Oh, so what do we do about it?That's what we're going to explore in the next part, because I promise you the answer isn't complicated, but it does take courage.Courage? Why courage?Because it means admitting that we're lonely, and that's something most of us are terrified to say out loud. You're right. We'd rather post a happy photo on Instagram than tell a friend we feel empty inside.Exactly. And that's why we're talking about this today, because if we don't talk about it, nothing changes.
