V dějinách pedagogiky se vynořilo mnoho významných osobností, jejichž přínos k formování vzdělávacích teorií a metod byl význačný. Někteří z nich jsou: Jan Amos Komenský (1592-1670): Český pedagog, filozof a spisovatel, známý jako "otec moderní pedagogiky". Propagoval humanistický přístup k vzdělání a zdůrazňoval důležitost systematického a přístupného vzdělání pro všechny. Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778): Francouzský filozof a spisovatel, autor díla "Emil, aneb O výchově". Prosazoval přirozenou výchovu a zdůrazňoval důležitost individuálního rozvoje dítěte. John Dewey (1859-1952): Americký filozof, psycholog a pedagog, zakladatel funkcionalismu v pedagogice. Betonoval význam praktického učení a aktivní účasti studentů na výuce. Maria Montessori (1870-1952): Italská lékařka a pedagožka, zakladatelka montessori pedagogiky. Klade důraz na svobodu, samostatnost a přirozený vývoj dítěte. Lev Vygotskij (1896-1934): Ruský psycholog a pedagog, tvůrce kulturně-historické teorie vývoje. Upozorňoval na význam sociálního kontextu a interakce v učení. Tito pedagogové významně ovlivnili vývoj vzdělávacích teorií a přispěli k formování moderního pedagogického myšlení.
