Met 420 mensen aan boord varen Rob en zijn collega’s de Siciliaanse havenstad Messina binnen. Iedereen aan boord juicht, maar Rob heeft dubbele gevoelens: voor de meesten zal het geen sprookje worden in Europa. Rob komt terug naar Nederland en vertelt hoe lastig het is om weer te aarden na de intensieve ervaringen op zee. Na een periode van rust besluiten Laura, Rob en researcher Angela naar Sicilië te gaan. Op de kade ontmoeten ze de arts die baby Sarah heeft behandeld zeven jaar geleden. Hij herinnert zich haar en weet te vertellen dat ze Nigeriaans is. Laura vraagt zich af: met welke reden komen Nigeriaanse vrouwen naar Europa? Dat vragen ze aan de 21-jarige Mercy David, die in 2016 vanuit Nigeria naar Sicilië kwam. Mercy vertelt hoe huiveringwekkend de overzeese tocht was en met welk idee ze naar Europa kwam. Hoogleraar Mirjam van Reisen vertelt hoe groot de macht van de mensensmokkel en mensenhandel is bij de overtocht. Mercy vertelt hoe teleurgesteld ze was na alle ontberingen toen ze in Europa kwam. Het bleek niet het beloofde land van melk en honing.
