Walking Together as One in Christ | Ephesians 4:1–16

from The Journey Church Houston Podcast · host The Journey

Community is essential for human flourishing — and yet it’s often the hardest thing to sustain. We long for belonging, but unity doesn’t happen automatically. In Ephesians 4:1–16, the Apostle Paul turns from doctrine to daily life. If chapters 1–3 are true — if God has reconciled us to Himself through Christ and united us into one new humanity — then how should we live? Paul’s answer: we walk together by being formed together by the truth of the gospel. This passage shows us: The Call: Walk in unity with humility, gentleness, patience, and love (vv. 1–3) The Foundation: Our unity is grounded in seven unshakable “ones” — shared gospel realities that make us family (vv. 4–6) The Goal: As Christ gives Word-centered leaders to equip His people, the whole church grows into mature, stable, truth-shaped love (vv. 7–16) Truth doesn’t divide. Sin does. Pride does. Immaturity does. But truth spoken in love binds us together and helps us grow up into Christ. Jesus didn’t just save isolated individuals. He created a people. And as each part does its work — speaking truth, encouraging one another, bearing with one another — the body grows. Christ died to make us one. Now we learn to live like it.
