„Du bist doch bestimmt auch müde, oder?“ Vielleicht bist aber eigentlich einfach nur du selbst müde und möchtest nach Hause. Je mehr ich auf unsere Alltagssprache achte, desto spannender finde ich, auf welchen kleinen Umwegen wir manchmal kommunizieren, was wir brauchen. Wir fragen, ob der andere auch Hunger hat, statt zu sagen: Ich würde gerne etwas essen. Wir liefern fünf gute Gründe mit, warum wir heute absagen müssen. Wir sagen „Du meldest dich nie“, obwohl darunter vielleicht ein viel weicherer Satz liegt: Ich vermisse dich. Und manchmal suchen wir erst im Außen nach einer Art Bestätigung dafür, dass das, was wir selbst gerade fühlen oder wollen, überhaupt berechtigt ist. In dieser Folge schaue ich mir genauer an, was unsere Sprache über unseren Umgang mit Bedürfnissen erzählt: Warum Direktheit schnell fordernd wirken kann, obwohl noch gar keine Forderung ausgesprochen wurde. Warum indirekte Kommunikation manchmal rücksichtsvoller aussieht, dem Gegenüber aber erstaunlich viel Verantwortung fürs Gedankenlesen überlässt.
