How many laws are actually in the Bible? Is the answer simply 613—or does the word “law” refer to more than one thing?In this episode of Daily Bread, The Mandated Reporter continues the Torah series by examining the difference between YAH’s written instruction given through Moses and the later body of rabbinic teaching commonly called the Oral Torah.The study begins with a recap: Torah means more than our modern English idea of “law.” It carries the sense of instruction and teaching. Historically, the Hebrew word torah can refer broadly to instruction, while Jewish tradition also uses the term “Oral Torah” for rabbinic interpretation and tradition.
