Waterford College of Further Education marks 120 years

Waterford College of Further Education is celebrating 120 years of education within the fabric of the Waterford community on Parnell Street. Across those years, it has evolved from the Central Technical Institute, to Waterford College of Further Education and the courses and offerings have expanded in line with the demands of learners across the country. Today, more than 40 courses across a range of disciplines are available with clear and achieveable pathways to higher education. Michelle Daly is the head of the Music, Art and Media department and she joined Ollie and Dymphna on air to look ahead to a special day happening next Thursday, September 17th. The public are invited in between 10am and 12noon to view the facilities, the special photographs and exhibitions from 120 years of memories, and to share stories over a cup of tea. WLR will be broadcasting live from Parnell Street in celebration of such a significant milestone. Online, photo montages from across the years are available on WLR's Instagram and Facebook pages with many familiar faces, names, and memories being shared. Waterford's social history is captured and documented in many of the exhibitions within WCFE, highlighting gender distribution across courses, changing demands in upskilling and returning to work, and the changing face of education in the home and in the community. For many, generations of their families have attended the college, cementing its importance as a cultural, social and education institution in Waterford, responsible for crafting careers, building confidence and a sense of identity, and developing social links.
