Keep it together just a little longer, we're almost there. › Notes‹ NotesAll M8 synthesis, all the way, no samples. Bit of extra smashy smashy mastering in Logic because why not. This past week I've been looking into all kinds of new and old trackers for inspiration. Messed around in LSDJ a while, jammed in FMS and even dipped a toe in the new NES tracker by Laamaa. All amazing in their own way. However, on saturday evening I picked up my M8 again, felt immediately at home and made the the main bass motif for this one. Extended it into a full track on sunday evening. The bass is pretty weird. It is the plucked engine playing the lowest possible note. This results in a rhythmic pulse, which at 124 bpm is a 16h note stutter. The actual root note comes from the hi-pass filter with the resonance maxed out. Because of plucked, it's slightly different every time a note is played, which gave it this unruly and unpredictable vibe. This also meant I had immediately painted myself into a corner: I had to write bass lines by adjusting the filter frequency and it didn't match with traditional tuning.. Doh! Added a bunch of stuff on top, mostly trying to keep the tension rising with shepard-ish tones and a bunch of stuttering and sputtering. I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out. I managed to squeeze a couple of unusual production tricks in there which made me happy. Get the M8 bundle 2026 CC Attribution Noncommercial (BY-NC)
