    Week 19 - prophisee - Squawk 123

This week's topic was wearning for happiness thats just out of reach when there’s a world to appreciate right at home. Wanted to apply a lofi aesthetic and use a lyrical metaphor of tuning into radio signals › lyrics‹ lyrics [VERSE] I tried to find peace but the signal was fickle The grass is always green on a digital screen Can’t sleep through the static my brain just tunes in Can’t win, when the crackle turns into a scream Caught in-between, the visible part of the maze And everything I crave thats outside of my gaze Just out of reach and never as good as it seems Too late to see we’re slaves to pursuit of a dream? [CHORUS] I said... testing 123. Calling all stations I am trapped in this routine No reply from ground control Situation's looking bleak Is it time to leave it all behind? Cause there's no one left but me There's no one left but me My goal is to write better lyrics this year so I've been following the process and frameworks from Writing Better Lyrics by Pat Pattison. › idea and narrative‹ idea and narrativeJust random notes: Twisting the knob for a feeling Static, stations, feedback, broadcast, antenna Is anybody out there? Do you receive? Come in, standing by, requesting coordinates, all stations, on this channel, over, radio check, testing 1212, wires › object writing‹ object writingNot really object writing this week but I dumped this: Sitting with discontent. It comes in moments where I get a glimpse of a better possibility. On social media when I see others traveling. Hiking mountains, surfing real waves. Felt strongly on the couch. Also while traveling to anywhere. Even a visit to an unremarkable place is colored with the question “should I move here? Would I be better off?” The grass always seems greener There’s a whole world inside the piano keyboard in my apartment, or the codebase downloaded to my projects folder. Endless time could be spent fruitfully there. Instead its spread thing attempting to satiate every desire, making it more difficult to truly satiate any one. It comes in moments that make you question the connections you have. It comes in moments of emotional turmoil. It’s easier to silence the noise with a flood of new or intense stimulation than by revisiting the same old piano or looking out the same old window. Instead of appreciating and leaning into the moment, it means constantly seeing flaws in it and asking “how could this be better?” The feeling is a stress and tension. Wanting to be somewhere that requires great effort to get to. Cortisol. Heartbeat spike. A tug-of-war. A yearning. Noise in the background. Feel free to roast so I can get better 2026 CC Attribution Noncommercial No Derivative Works (BY-NC-ND)

Week 19 - BurnedOutSun - vinum est poesis

Well, that's a first! I think that was the first time we've tried incorporating lyrics into our jams :3 I've had in mind delving into the songwriting at some point. But I wasn't doing much homework on my weeklybeats lately, unfortunately. However on our today's jam since I was thinking of trying that for a while - I quickly scratched the lyrics and presented them to the guys, Adam, who is on vocals and bass here - turned them into vocals and we recorded a few takes on an iphone. Attempting to "master" the recording was fun X) Pretty satisfied with the result, though I think that the amount of DSP on a recording and my attempts to make instruments clear via multiband compression gaslight me a bit, at some point the guitar sounds as if it has chorus engaged, which I'm pretty sure wasn't the case :D › lyrics‹ lyrics I've had it easy For long Went with the wind Turned out a fraud I don't belong, don't bother -- -- What should I say How has it been? I've never seen And I forgotten Days have been heavy So bored Cold lights don't blink Don't be so loud We're all tag along, doesn't matter 2026 CC Attribution Noncommercial No Derivative Works (BY-NC-ND)

Week 19 - maksy - Nicht für mich

This song is for my mom. I know that she likes the band "cigarettes after sex". So I wrote this song in the style of them for her :) Lyrics: Manchmal wünsch ich mir die alten Zeiten wieder her Satte Farben überall, mein Herz war vielleicht halb so schwer Dann und wann sehe ich kein Licht Weil die Welt um mich zusammen bricht Doch immer wenn es so weit ist, weiß ich, ich habe dich Manchmal frag ich mich wie du das alles schaffst Weiter durchziehst, dich egal was ist zusammenraffst Ohne dich ist es einfach schwer Mir vorzustellen was sonst gewesen wär Denn ohne das Geschenk von dir wäre ich nicht hier Ich will nur eins, dass du nicht vergisst dass all das für dich selbstverständlich ist Aber nicht für mich Diese Zeilen werden dir nicht gerecht (4x) Lyrics translation: Sometimes I wish I could bring back the old days Rich colors everywhere, my heart was maybe half as heavy Every now and then I see no light Because the world around me is falling apart But whenever that happens, I know I have you Sometimes I wonder how you manage it all Keep going, pull yourself together no matter what Without you, it’s just hard To imagine what else might have been Because without the gift you gave me, I wouldn’t be here I only want one thing: that you don’t forget That all of this is a given for you But not for me These lines don’t do you justice (4x) 2026 Copyright All rights reserved

    Week 19 - horatiuromantic - Organ Noodling 1

Here is a speedtrash on organ. I spent this week working on getting a good sound on the new organ, but I didn't get there quite yet. I want it to be fatter in the high octaves. I'll figure it out. Didn't have much time for composing this week but I did make a Mr Woofmantic song and I played at an open mic as well as a mini gig today - improvised acoustic piano music for contemporary dancers. Besides working my regular job which is in videogames, and we had a great week with sunny weather... life is good! 2026 Copyright All rights reserved

I was honestly stuck for this entire week until just after midnight today. I didn't have much time to polish this track up, but I think it's quite "icy" speed treasure. Let me know what you think down below! Doesn't have to be just love, it can be constructive criticism as well. Thank you for listening! 2026 Copyright All rights reserved

Week 19 - Michael Morrow - I Will Be Forgiven

This week I've been stuck on some lines from Psalm 25: "Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you, Lord, are good.' It struck me again how outrageous these words are. How can we respect a God who forgets? For God to be just, how can he overlook the wrong we have done? What was David thinking when he first prayed this prayer? Could he have imagined a time, hundreds of years in the future, when Jesus would make a way for his sins to be paid for in full, leaving no trace of them in God's memory? Could he have imagined that Jesus would completely satisfy both God's justice and his mercy? I've also had one of Sister Carita Kent's rules stuck in my head this week: 'Consider everything an experiment'. There is much more to be said about God's mercy and justice, but here is this week's experiment in expressing in song the mind-blowing mercy and justice of God: I know I’m wrong and you know it too How can we pretend that the truth is not true Justice demands I pay back what I stole The law will not rest till I’ve paid it in full Where your justice and mercy meet I will be forgiven No more guilt hanging over me I will be forgiven There’s a God of unfailing love There’s a God who would die for us To satisfy his justice To satisfy his love You make me bold to come your throne I’m on my knees but I know I belong Justice is done and mercy flows free Lord, you are good, will you be good to me? Where your justice and mercy meet… © 2026 Michael Morrow 2026 Copyright All rights reserved

    Week 19 - Dustsucker - Silver Spork

..can I ask you kind of a weird question? › Production brmpdfpm‹ Production brmpdfpmAnother track started with a crunchy OP1-F drum loop. Through messing with the option to add pauses in the sequencer it turned into this strange 7/4 groove that felt pretty interesting. Sampled it in M8 in two different keys, then went to work layering a bunch of synths on top. Usually I do bespoke sounddesign on M8, but this time I mostly went with a cool preset pack recently released by fellow Weekly Beats user Joshua Morgan on the M8 discord, which features remakes of their favorite Hydrasynth sounds. I did mess with their settings a bit and added in a sneaky Hypersynth of my own, among some other small additions. The initial loop proved difficult to get out of when I layed down the initial beat. I took another jab at it in the train when I went into the city to meet my mom today, then added all of the leads and a bunch of other stuff when I got back home in the evening. The 7/4 groove makes this one kind of panicky, especially combined with the overload of hi-end crunchiness. I have no idea what is going on with the harmony. A lot of the lead noodling is super janky, cause it's hard to pin the exact tuning on the root note. Even with a bunch of tweaking I couldn't find a stable tuning. Ended up pitching all synths up by an 8th step, no idea if that really fixed it. Some additional mastering in Logic, fancy plugin version. For those interested the chain is Pro-Q4, UAD Verve, Gullfoss, True Iron, Sausage Fattner, Pro-DS, JST Clip, Pro-L2. Week 19 - Continuous Nonlinearities - Soft myths

Another noisy one, but quiet-ish? Not in terms of volume, but mood. Ample use of Fairfield 20% More, which finds its way onto the Pulsar-23 bass synth and some half-hidden guitar. Other bass synth feature: Fairfield Conflict of Interest modulating the tuning at audio rates for some abrasive FM tones. I actually tried using the Pulsar less this time; I've been feeling like I'm making my drums too busy lately so I tried pulling back. Relatively minimal everything else: the bleep synth is a very simple Prophet patch arpeggiating or playing through the notes of a Cm7 chord, the chorus pad is three notes on the Alpha Juno, some small hihats from the Digitakt, and... that's pretty much it. My audio interface decided to start dying as I tried to mix down the track, adding a shrill wail onto everything that makes me think it has a dying capacitor. Fortunately I was able to mix down into my field recorder, but this makes another in the list of "equipment that needs replacement/fixing". I'll have to take a look at it when I've got an opportunity/get to buying all the new things I've already decided I need to get. 2026 CC Attribution Noncommercial No Derivative Works (BY-NC-ND)

    Week 19 - MRDRCAT - Electrostatic Interference

I didn't have a melodic idea for this week, so I decided to add to the drone setup a little. This time around, we have the Stylophone DS2 on drones and FX, the Monotribe is back but just for noise sweeps with FX via the DS2, and now there are pads from the MicroMonsta 2 (controlled by the Pocket Scion), with THAT whole live jam dumped into the M8 for an extra drone, some percussion, and sample & hold. The noise is too loud. It's supposed to be too loud at the end, but it starts too loud and does not have any room to ramp up. Since it's mixed with the DS2's signal for FX, I can't turn it down. No time for a second take! Deadline is in 15 minutes! 2026 CC Attribution Noncommercial Share Alike (BY-NC-SA)

    Week 19 - Tomatron.Jones - The Midnight #4

In anticipation of seeing The Midnight on the Saturday before this beat was due, I made yet another track with samples from The Midnight sample pack. It started with some sample chopping of a chord sample, then I made a drum kit with their drum samples and made a synthbass with Ableton and a synthbass sample. The main chopped sample kinda reminds me of Pogo. The lead synth is a very Nintendo-y sounding with Cradle Audio State Machine BitFlip synth VST. I was a bit too ambitious with some transposing / key changes on the sampler. I have a bunch of different basslines / motifs and some weird melodic key changes that are kind of interesting but ultimately I don't feel very strongly about it. I took what could have been a straightforward lofi synthwave beat and made it a bit too weird, ha. I don't really love the vibe of this track so I wonder why I kept on it. Perhaps the sunk cost fallacy? I need to have fun making stuff rather than just finish something for the sake of it. * Synth chords and drum hits from The Midnight sample pack * Synth bass from Ableton bass + The Midnight sample pack * Lead synth from Cradle Audio State Machine BitFlip * Ample use of Transit, Valhalla, RC-20 plugins * Gullfoss and Ozone Elements for mastering Total time: 6 hours 2026 Copyright All rights reserved

    Week 19 - Vet - Blossoms

May flowers here in Washington state!Fun little trivia, I travel all along the westcoast as a freelance animator / musician. That's what I do as my job, making beats is self flatulatory. Well okay it -might- become something. Whipped something fast and completely new, used a mix of Eli Derp and Underbelly old samples for this one. I got hooked on Blue Prince the game, and instead of commenting on other people's music like I said I should I spent it hanging out with friends. Darn me! I really want to give a lot of my commenter's a listen and drop a few nice words. Anyways, have a lovely week, hope you all are doing well, beat makers! 2026 CC Attribution Noncommercial No Derivative Works (BY-NC-ND)

Week 19 - miraclemiles - Cordyceps Rhizome Up Version

This week's track is also my contribution to this week's Disquiet Junto project. The assignment: Record the final third of a trio. I look forward to participating in this asynchronous collaboration every year. I was reminded again this week that I love collaboration, async or in sync. We all have our skills and perspectives. Nice to bring them together. I could not play this bass line, and I loved listening to and playing along with it. The collaborators are: Daniel Diaz's part 2 or 3 "Cordyceps Dub." He said: "I initially wanted to push it into a dub direction — not sure it fully works — but I had fun adding delays and plate reverbs to bring out that feel." and Benn DeMole's 1 of 3 "Cordyceps". It looks like he didn't post any notes, but his part is the tubuler(?), resonating and bell like main percussion.  This isn't the first year I have async collabed with these artists, they are great, check them out. I also thought dub direction, but also, not sure what it really is other than what it is, the thing that it is. I played drums, added rhythm chords, voices, percs, and other little bits of auditory mycelium. Spread verb and delay. Used a comping drum process I like when playing on a new song with limited time. Looped phrases and recorded multiple takes, then using Ableton's take lanes to pick which is best and repeating through the song. Best to stop as soon as something tickles. 2026 CC Attribution Noncommercial Share Alike (BY-NC-SA)

Week 19 - Jason Nijjer - wandering blue stillness

Not much time to work on the mixing, so not really sure how this sounds outside of headphones.  Started this one with a VCV patch using a looper called Tehom, originally I had a really dark sound which I wasn't feeling with the sunny vibes outside.  Changed up the VCO to a brighter warmer sound and the rest of the track unfolded from there. The Tehom module has a little fish that randomly roams around and crossfades between 4 simulated tape decks.  The track was to emulate the little guy exploring the lake as the sun shines to melt the ice above.  Hope everyone had a great weekend, as always thanks for stopping by for a listen, appreciate it. 2026 CC0 Creative Commons Zero (Public Domain)

    Week 19 - tired_moniker - tired_wb26_19

I've actually been messing around a lot on my keyboard this week but still need to find a good way to get that into the M8 or my computer. I have a tiny apartment and already feels like I'm playing tetris with gear at this point so let's see. So this was kind of last minute and thrown together in about an hour. I decided to go back through the last 7-8 weeks and pick a tone from each song I liked the most. I also grabbed just two samples I was at from a party earlier today (which are in the very beginning). Hopefully next week I can get an earlier start! 2026 CC Attribution Noncommercial No Derivative Works (BY-NC-ND)

    Week 19 - increment - Expansia I

I'm starting a new long form multi-week piece again. Beat Collective collected 7 short Searching for Sound samples for this month's challenge. Simón Mejía is a founding member of Bomba Estéreo, a folk-electronic fusion band from Bogotá, Colombia. In 2018 Red Bull commissioned a documentary series for Apple TV "Searching for Sound" featuring several artists including Simón. I instantly recognised that these samples are perfect for a classic Incrementalism style. In this week, I've use two of the samples, with the third being introduced for the next movement. My goal is to use all 7, but never more than two at a time. 2026 CC Attribution Noncommercial No Derivative Works (BY-NC-ND)

    Week 19 - Snyderman - OPL2 Dance

Started with a kind of fuzzy idea for an intro which I think is cool but is really part of another song. The rest is some dance-y kind of stuff using the old Adlib soundcard again, my favorite. Didn't get to fully develop all of the ideas but I'm still hoping to get a track out every week for the year to keep practicing. 2026 CC Attribution Noncommercial (BY-NC)

    Week 19 - gify - Lost Groove

I accidentally made a cool sound on this one. The warbley effect on the plinky key lead is actually caused by the Graillon 3 auto-tune plugin. I think it's fighting the chords and can't decide how to tune it, so it warbles the pitch. The rest was based on a drum groove I made super late one night this week. I got a new analog monosynth this week and barely used it at all in this track, despite my best efforts... doh! 2026 CC Attribution Share Alike (BY-SA)

Week 19 - BTS - Muse Game Engine

For this week's track, I decided to work with an online text to MIDI engine, using a random book pulled from Project Gutenberg. I pulled a section of text from the middle of the short story I found and put that into the MIDI generator. After downloading the MIDI file, I found that I had a lot of data generated from the file (melody, chords, bass), so I cut the file down to it's final length by pulling a section of the file. Afterwards, I cleaned up the melodic MIDI line by reducing the number of notes and randomizing the velocity or the remaining notes. I then went and pulled sounds that I thought would work with the tracks. I ended up doubling the bass (creating a Sub Bass and more general bass line from two versions of the same part) and adding an additional arpeggiated part from the chords. I also experimented with the Vocoder, using a sample set of the alphabet and the main melodic parts to feed into the effect. After some additional mixing and EQing, I set up the mastering chain and exported the track. 2026 CC Attribution Noncommercial Share Alike (BY-NC-SA)
