Vocal production was done in Pro Tools, mastered in Logic. Took the long way to produce this one. › the long way‹ the long wayI wasn't expecting to make hiphop thing, but here we are! Half of the beat came together while I was messing around on the OP-1 field. It's a simple lo-fi drum loop with a double layer of CWO that somehow keeps modulating up and down by half a step. I sampled it into the M8 and added a single track of bit-crushed drums on top. That's when it started to feel like it needed some kind of rap. After a couple hours on the couch watching my partner play The Witcher 3, I had written most of the lyrics. Then I spent a very hot heatwave Saturday afternoon recording the vocals and doing all the post-processing. I used the TE CM-15 mic with the TX-6 mixer and recorded into Pro Tools. My partner had a listen and came up with the chorus hook right there and then. We recorded her vocals in like 2 takes, then she went back to Witchering. What a champ. Next, I exported a vocal submix to bring back into M8, so I could finetune the instrumental. Made all the stops, variations, and modulations to fit the vocals, then exported the new instrumental into Pro Tools for the final mix tweaks. I knew I wanted to have Sausage Fattener on the master, but it doesn't run in Pro Tools (I do have a wrapper plugin that I really need to get working). So I exported the mix into Logic for the final mastering tweaks. So it was a bit of a journey, but I'm pretty happy with the results and equal parts terrified to put my vocals out there.
