### Diary and chatter Well hello, my fellow musi-humans! Welcome back to the little weird corner of the internet where I make repetitive chiptune-adjacent music, hahahaha... I'm happy I get to report a couple of victories at work this past week. I was able to convince my superiors to give raises to people on my team and also to extend an offer to an intern. Outside of that, I've just hot my head down and am trying to keep busy. Nothing much to write home about. My wife and I also went to a soccer match yesterday, and that was really fun! Makes me want to go to more sporting events. The banjo and the piano are still going strong. Slowly. Very slowly. But still going. Someday I'll feel comfortable enough to feature some of my banjer playin' in one of these songs, hahahaha... I'm also really excited about an upcoming trip. I'm about to wrap up a Dungeons and Dragons campaign I've been playing with some friends since mid-to-late 2020. Even though we've been playing online for all these years, we're all going to travel to the same location and wrap our campaign up in person during the upcoming long holiday weekend! I'm super stoked! But also kinda terrified because I'm the DM and I've got no clue how to wrap this up, hahahaha... I'm sure it'll be fun regardless of the direction we take, though. I hope y'all have had a great week, folks!!! Cheers!!! ### Production notes This one actually started off as an exercise in trying to better understand the M8's FM Synth. I really like the sound of the Yamaha DX7 "TUB BELL" preset, which is ubiquitous in classic pop & rock music. It's also famous for being the actual source of the Taco Bell chime (Example 1 and Example 2). Anyways, I was having a hard time recreating that sound in the M8, so I made a post on the Dirtywave Discord's Sound Design channel/forum and got the help of a few amazing people, namely kadam (k.aw), ddmm64, and 0x_colt, who helped dial this in really nicely. After that, I just tried experimenting a bit with the sound and, running up against the timer, I just stuck with this and kept developing it until it could be called close to done. The melodic progression here is super simple and matches many (many...) of my other songs, but the lack of time meant reduced experimentation, so I went with what I knew. As usual, the final sections of the song have way too much going on, but I still kinda like it like that, hahahaha... Also as usual, done entirely on the Dirtywave M8. Oh, I'm also running the new 6.6.0 beta firmware! I didn't make use of any of its exciting new features here, though. Link to M8 Bundle 2026 CC Attribution Noncommercial Share Alike (BY-NC-SA)
