Hello and welcome to Becoming Badass. I'm your host, Carly Box, and this is my podcast series where I chat to Defence Force applicants, including current and past members of the Barak's Gym, about their physical preparation for the military. I hope you'll find their stories inspiring, interesting and informative, and that you'll relate to these people as they work towards the change from civilian to serving member. So, grab yourself a coffee and join our conversation as we chat about physically preparing yourself for the military.

Hello and welcome to the very first episode of Becoming Badass. As you've probably already gathered on your host, Carly Box, and this show is all about the reality of physically preparing yourself for the military. Because let's face it, it's no walk in the park and we want to make sure that we are as fit and strong as we can be going into the military so we can handle anything they're going to throw at us. I'm going to show you exactly what it takes to make it into the military when it comes to your fitness.

I'm going to do this by chatting to real life people, actual applicants who train with us over at the Barak's Gym, people who are going through the process and experiencing the excitement and challenges that go along with it. People just like you. People with a dream, with a career goal, and they will stop at nothing to get themselves into the Army, Navy or Air Force. People who knew they needed to get themselves physically ready for the military, but literally had no clue where to start.

And that's where the Barak's Gym comes in. Now you'll probably hear me refer to it as TPG from here on in because, well, I'm a little bit lazy. We've got so many different people from all walks of life and I thought it would be pretty cool to share their stories, to show you that you're not alone during the application process, and that someone out there is likely having similar struggles to you, but on the flip side also that there are people out there to celebrate the excitement with. Every couple of weeks I'm going to be joined by current and former members of the Gym.

I'll also be conducting super specific chats with our head coach and founder Michael as we unpack those critical components of your fitness that are going to help you get through to enlistment and beyond. We'll explain the way we do things at the Gym, and of course, why it works. We'll give you tips, tricks, and ways to get around the things that are holding you back from getting to those fitness benchmarks. We'll leave nothing uncovered and we'll make sure that we're super transparent about everything so that you can learn as much as you need to.

We'll also be talking to some special guests who will help reveal some extra pieces of information that will help you get exactly where you want to be. Over the coming weeks, Michael and I are going to talk to you about how we started the Barak's Gym, why we do what we do, how we do it, and why it's so successful. I actually think that our backstory is kind of cool and I think it's worth sharing with you guys. We'll also be introducing ourselves properly and talking through our own career stories with you.

We'll uncover all the lessons we've learned over the years and how those lessons shape the way we do things at TVG. So if this is something you'll be keen to listen to, make sure you hit subscribe. I'm really excited about this as we have a lot of knowledge to share and want to make sure all applicants across Australia can benefit from what TVG has to offer no matter what city you live in. I started recording episodes and I can't wait to start sharing them with you.

In the next couple of weeks, I'll be telling my own story, and I really hope to inspire some of you to step out of your comfort zones, dig deep and go for what it is that you really want. I certainly didn't get it right when it came to my own training for the Army. I literally had no idea what I was meant to be doing, so I copied what they do in the movies, and I ran. I ran every day on concrete, every single day.

So although I dominated the fit inside of things at Kupukha, I still ended up with Shinswint's very early on in my career and it was really devastating. I've learned from this and I now make up my personal mission to make sure that no one else goes through the same thing and avoids having the same issue that I had. How, you ask? Well, you're just going to have to keep listening to find out.

Thanks for listening to the very first episode of Becoming Barak's Barak's Barak's Gym. Head over to our website and check us out at www.barakshym.com.au. See you next time. Look, I know we've only just gotten started, but I really hope that you enjoyed today's episode.

I want you guys to always find something to take away from every single chat that we have. We should never stop learning, and it's important to always find something new that you can implement into your own way of doing things. You're all going through the same stuff, and I hope that you can find a way to relate to every single episode in a way that will help you as you move forward. If you're enjoying this podcast, as I said before, make sure you hit subscribe, that way you'll never miss any episode as they come out.

Make sure you share the love on Instagram and tag us at the Barak's Gym in your post so that others can learn about this podcast. I want you to all remember, it all comes down to one simple thing.
