Welcome back to the quiet corner of "Literary Glimmer." I am Mandy.Tonight, I want you to let go of the map. In our daily lives, we are obsessed with maps—plans, goals, five-year strategies. We are always running from point A to point B, convinced that happiness is waiting for us at the finish line. We feel that if we stop seeking, we are failing. But have you ever thought that maybe, just maybe, the act of "seeking" is exactly what prevents us from "finding"?When we seek, our eyes are only looking for one specific thing. We miss the flowers by the roadside, the color of the sky, the smile of a stranger. We miss life itself. This brings us to the profound wisdom of Hermann Hesse’s "Siddhartha." It is the story of a man who spent his entire life searching for enlightenment. He tried everything—he was a beggar, a lover, a rich merchant. But he only found peace when he stopped trying to force life to give him answers, and instead, sat by a river and simply listened. Before we enter the text, let’s feel the word Unity. It means that everything is connected. The pain, the joy, the past, the future—it is all one song. And the word Flow. Like the river, life doesn't stop. It doesn't look back at the past or worry about the future. It just is.Now, imagine you are sitting on a grassy bank. The sun is setting, casting a golden light on the water. Siddhartha is listening to the river. He is no longer judging the voices he hears—the voices of sorrow, laughter, and anger. He is letting them merge. Let's listen with him."He listened. He was now nothing but a listener, completely concentrated, completely empty, he took everything in. He felt that he had now completely learned the art of listening. He had often heard all this before, all these numerous voices in the river, but today it sounded new. Already, he could no longer distinguish the many voices, the merry voices from the weeping ones, the childish ones from the manly ones, they all belonged together, the lament of yearning and the laughter of the knowledgeable, the scream of rage and the moaning of the dying, everything was one, everything was interwoven and connected, entangled a thousand times. And all of this together, all voices, all goals, all yearning, all suffering, all pleasure, all that was good and evil, all of this together was the world. All of it together was the flow of events, was the music of life. And when he did not listen to the sorrow or the laughter, when he did not bind his soul to any one particular voice and enter into it with his ego, but listened to them all, heard the whole, the oneness, then the great song of the thousand voices consisted of one single word: Om—perfection.""He was now nothing but a listener."When I read this, I feel a weight lifting off my chest. We spend so much energy judging our lives—"this is good," "this is bad," "I should have done that." But the river teaches us that everything belongs. Your sadness today is part of the same river as your joy tomorrow. They are not separate.Siddhartha teaches us that we don't need to conquer the world to find peace. We just need to stop fighting the current. We need to open our eyes, not to look for what we want to see, but to see what is actually there.Tonight, try to stop seeking for a moment. Just find. Find the comfort in your breath, the warmth of your blanket, the peace in this silence.Goodnight, and let the glimmer light your way.________________________________________Beyond English | 不止英语Go beyond words.
