We're back! New York Mets falling apart, New York Yankees on fire! Explaining the Fanatics trading card takeover (8/23)

from Nothing Personal with David Samson · host Le Batard & Friends, Sports, Baseball, MLB

Today’s word of the day is ‘together’ as in it was the first time since March 16, 2020 that Coca and I were in the same room. Let’s talk quickly about my trip to Iceland then we’ll get to the goods. (3:00) We start things off with Steve Cohen and the New York Mets. The team can’t hit. The team can’t pitch. The team can’t win. Steve Cohen’s Twitter account has been critical. His locker room rah-rah speech didn’t work. Now what? (14:10) The New York Yankees are on fire. The team is 16-3 since a black cat ran onto the field in their loss to the Baltimore Orioles. How did this happen? Luke Voit publicly came out and said he needs to play more than Anthony Rizzo, he deserves to play more than Anthony Rizzo… was this a mistake? (22:20) Review: Coda. (27:15) Fanatics has taken over the trading card business. Deals have been struck with NBA, NFL, and MLB. The fall of Topps and Panini was swift and painful for these companies. Why would leagues do this? (37:30) NPPOD. (40:05) Time to update our Trevor Bauer talking points. He released a statement. It’s the first time he has spoken since this investigation started. The restraining order filed against him was denied. Does this mean he’s in the clear? (46:45) Miguel Cabrera hit his 500th home run of his career on Sunday. He became the 28th player to ever do that. Let’s end today by giving Miggy his flowers. Keep going.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
