De oorlog in het Midden-Oosten leidt tot een stevige stijging van de olie- en gasprijzen. Vandaag buigen de G7-landen zich over de vraag of een gezamenlijke vrijgave van noodoliereserves voldoende is om de wereldeconomie in veiligheid te brengen. De crisis laat ook zien hoe kwetsbaar Europa is: energie-intensieve sectoren zoals raffinaderijen, chemie en kunstmestproductie zijn sterk afhankelijk van import en energieprijzen.
