The CDC says, "Scientists estimate that more than 6 out of every 10 known infectious diseases in people can be spread from animals, and 3 out of every 4 new or emerging infectious diseases in people come from animals." So, you'd think our government would do whatever it could to discourage wet markets, which are retail slaughterhouses, where customers take home the carcass right after the animal is slaughtered on site. But, no, our government is doing very little to counteract that danger. Now, there's a proposed law in Los Angeles that would "prohibit the sale of living or 'live' animals slaughtered on demand for consumption in specialty markets in the city of Los Angeles."
