What Dads Are Supposed To Be Doing

Do you want to be a good dad? I know the default desire is for us to pursue being a good dad. However, the more I reflect on fatherhood and the Scriptures, the more I am convinced that trying to be a good dad is the wrong goal. My great-uncle used to regular state this simple expression, "I think I could get more done, if I knew what I was supposed to be doing." Seems obvious and common sense, yet those are usually the things we do worst at. We all want to be better dads, but do we know what we are supposed to be doing as dads? As Christian dads our mission is to equip and disciple our children to be a part of God's mission in a greater capacity than ourselves. How do we accomplish that? Do we mandate what our children do? Do we tell our kids to do all the right things we do not do ourselves?
