What Does It Mean That, "Christ Became Sin?"

As he spoke, he kept referring to Romans 6 and how by being obedient to God in not letting sin reign in his body he was able to find freedom. I was wondering if you guys can explain this passage and help show how it can help people who are struggling with besetting sins.
