What does the Bible mean by "hell"?
The Bible uses different words that are translated as "hell" in English, but they do not all refer to the same place. In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word Sheol refers to the realm of the dead, while the New Testament uses the Greek word Hades to describe the same realm. However, Gehenna, another Greek word translated as "hell," refers to God's final judgment and is associated with the Lake of Fire. These places are distinct because Revelation 20:14 reveals that Hades itself will eventually be thrown into the Lake of Fire. Therefore, when Acts 2:27 says Jesus was not abandoned to hell, it refers to Hades, the realm of the dead, not the Lake of Fire. Understanding these distinctions is essential when studying what happened to Jesus between His death and resurrection. __________ Psalm 16:10 KJV, Acts 2:27 KJV, Revelation 20:14 NIV, Matthew 10:28 KJV, Acts 2:25-27 KJV, Acts 2:25-27 NIV __________ Partner with Us: https://churchforentrepreneurs.com/partner Connect with Us: https://churchforentrepreneurs.com __________
