On the contrary, when God warned Cain about sin lying at his door and he having the power to overcome it, his choice in response to God's warning sealed his destiny. It resulted in the first murder and he became an accursed fugitive. The things lying at our door may elevate us or degrade our relationship with God and they may shape our eternal destiny.
