from The WECAN Podcast

n today's episode of SheCan Media, Stephanie chats with Anna Malaika Tubbs to discuss how moms shape the world and more. Dr. Anna Malaika Tubbs is a multidisciplinary expert on current and historical understandings of race, gender, and equity. Anna is a two-time New York Times Bestselling author, acclaimed storyteller, and global thought leader on race, gender, and intersectionality. Growing up across Dubai, Mexico, Sweden, Estonia, Azerbaijan, and the U.S., Anna’s diverse upbringing has shaped her passion for bridging cultural divides and celebrating differences. Inspired by her mother’s advocacy for women and children’s rights worldwide, Anna uses her platform to centre the voices of women of colour and to confront the persistent erasure of Black women in history and media. Anna holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and a Master’s in Multidisciplinary Gender Studies from Cambridge University, as well as a B.A. in Medical Anthropology from Stanford University. She combines academic depth with accessible storytelling, making complex issues feel personal, urgent, and relatable. Her groundbreaking debut, The Three Mothers: How the Mothers of Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and James Baldwin Shaped a Nation, has earned widespread acclaim, landing on the New York Times Bestseller list, as well as appearing on Oprah Daily, CNN, MSNBC, The Guardian, and many more. In this episode, Anna opens up about her journey and the global experiences that shaped her worldview, how motherhood and advocacy intersect in her life and work, the importance of intersectional feminism, and her exciting upcoming projects. Watch until the end for an inspiring, eye-opening conversation that reminds us of the power of stories — and the women who shape them.
