Burton is a historian, anthropologist, and archaeologist who founded and directs the Institute of Biblical Anthropology (also called TIOBA), where he serves as Senior Fellow.He earned a B.A. in History from Hardin-Simmons University, an M.A. in Anthropology (with a history minor) from Texas Tech University, and a Ph.D. in History from Texas Tech in 2010, specializing in the history of religions, Early Christianity, and Greco-Roman religions. His dissertation examined the religious history of Banias/Caesarea Philippi (Paneas). He also holds an honorary Doctor of Divinity and has ministerial ordination.He has taught history, anthropology, mythology, archaeology, and related subjects at colleges and universities—including South Texas College, Amarillo College, and West Texas A&M University—for more than 20 years. His work focuses on biblical cultures, sacred space, mythology, prehistory, the early church, and topics such as the Nephilim, Grigori, Rephaim, and demonology.
