What Will We Take To Heaven?
from Cortez church of Christ · host Cortez church of Christ
Jesus challenged His followers to rethink what they value most. In Matthew 6:19–21, He said, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven... For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Earthly possessions are temporary. Wealth can disappear, material things wear out, and nothing we own can be taken with us into eternity. However, the things we do for God have eternal value. We store up treasures in heaven when we obey God's will, generously serve others, support His kingdom, and faithfully live for Christ. Paul reminded Timothy to instruct the rich to be "rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come" (1 Timothy 6:17–19). Likewise, Jesus taught that acts of kindness done in His name will not go unnoticed (Matthew 25:34–40). Our goal should never be to accumulate possessions but to seek first God's kingdom (Matthew 6:33). When Christ is our greatest treasure, our priorities change, our generosity increases, and our hope rests not in this world but in the eternal inheritance God has promised to those who love Him (1 Peter 1:3–4).
