What are lectins?
Lectins are proteins that bind to sugars and carbohydrates on the surface of most cells in your body.  At the same time, they have no nutritional value because they are what the plant provides in order to keep pests away.  The problems develop because your body cannot digest the lectins and tries to get them out of your body as quickly as possible through vomiting or diarrhea. 

Which food have the highest amounts of lectins?

Nightshades

  • Bell peppers
  • Potatoes (white/red)
  • Tomatoes
  • Eggplant
  • Tomatillos
  • Jalapenos
  • Chili peppers
  • Hot peppers
  • Curry powder
  • Chili powder
  • Cayenne powder
  • Red pepper

  • Cashews (some consider it a nut)
