Following a 2–4 week that included another series loss to the San Diego Padres, frustration is mounting among Reds fans as the team struggles to recapture the momentum from its strong 20–11 start earlier in the season. Reds Bullpen Collapse Remains Biggest Concern The Reds' bullpen, once considered one of the best in baseball, has become a major liability since May 1. Relievers have accumulated more than 30 bullpen meltdowns during that span, consistently blowing leads and turning close games into losses. While there is some optimism surrounding the potential returns of injured relievers Emilio Pagán and Pierce Johnson, the bullpen continues to struggle with consistency. Young pitchers such as Chase Petty, Luis Mey, and others have been forced into high-leverage situations, highlighting the organization's lack of dependable late-inning options. Offensive Struggles Continue Without Elly De La Cruz The Reds' offense has also cooled significantly. Since the injury to star shortstop Elly De La Cruz, Cincinnati has struggled to generate enough runs to overcome bullpen issues. The team has frequently failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities, leaving runners stranded and relying on narrow victories. Several recent wins required exceptional pitching performances because the offense produced only two or three runs. Noelvi Marte Emerging as a Bright Spot One positive development has been the resurgence of Noelvi Marte. After returning from Triple-A Louisville, Marte has begun showing signs of the offensive potential that made him one of the organization's top prospects. Marte was named the podcast's "Red Hot Red of the Week" after: Batting .316 during the week Hitting home runs in three consecutive games Stealing three bases Providing much-needed energy to a stagnant lineup The Reds hope Marte can become a key offensive contributor alongside J.J. Bleday and Elly De La Cruz when healthy. Chase Burns Leading Reds All-Star Conversation Despite the team's struggles, several Reds players remain in the All-Star discussion. The strongest candidate is rookie pitcher Chase Burns, who has emerged as one of the National League's most dominant starters. Burns has posted elite numbers and could earn his first All-Star selection. Other potential Reds All-Stars include: Elly De La Cruz (if healthy enough to return before voting concludes) J. J. Bleday, whose breakout season has made him one of Cincinnati's most productive hitters Tough Road Ahead for Cincinnati The Reds now face a critical stretch against the New York Mets and New York Yankees.
