When growth strengthens the foundation | Culture, succession & co leadership | George Bou-Rizk
from Bee Formless™ Flow Driven CEO
In this episode of the Bee Formless™ Flow Driven CEO Podcast, I connected with George Bou-Rizk, Co-CEO and Software Engineering Manager at Genesys Design, to explore succession, culture, shared leadership and what becomes possible when growth strengthens a business rather than pulling it away from its foundations.George joined Genesys Design as an intern while at university and, over eleven years, progressed through engineering, software and operations before becoming Co-CEO. Few leaders experience a business from so many perspectives, enabling an appreciation for how culture, systems and leadership evolve together.I loved hearing how the succession unfolded. Rather than waiting for founder Jeff Seizer to step aside, George and his fellow Co-CEO, Damien, developed a vision for the company’s future and approached Jeff with a plan to lead its next chapter while protecting the excellence and values it had been built upon. That transition asked everyone to let go of something. Jeff released day-to-day leadership while remaining connected to the technical heart of the business. George and Damien learned to step away from doing everything themselves, trust the leaders around them and discover that growing a business often begins by letting go of control.George also spoke about the power of “shared pressure.” Leading alongside a trusted Co-CEO meant he never carried leadership alone. When George lost his father, Damien stepped in, giving him the space to be with his family, knowing the business was in safe hands. As he said so simply: “Let it be human.”THE SHAPE SHIFT IN MOTIONAt the heart of this conversation was a shift from protecting control to building enough trust for leadership, culture and innovation to be shared. This is how that shift unfolded through the Bee Formless™ methodology.LEARN (LETTING GO)✨ The belief that growth always means increasing headcount, revenue or scale.✨ The assumption that founders and CEOs must carry every decision themselves.✨ The idea that preserving quality requires rigid control.UNLEARN (CREATE, REIMAGINE & RESHAPE)✨ Reimagine succession as an evolution of the original vision rather than a rejection of it.✨ Reshape culture through interconnected systems, open feedback and shared ownership.✨ Create leadership structures where pressure, responsibility and perspective are shared.RELEARN (TEST & IMPLEMENT)✨ Give people permission to question and improve the systems they work within.✨ Build leaders who can carry culture forward without depending on the CEO.✨ Grow at a pace that protects quality, identity and the human experience of work.ACTIVE RECOVERY (REFLECT & RESET)✨ What does your business need to preserve as it evolves?✨ Where could letting go create more ownership and trust?✨ Who helps you carry the pressure of leadership?🔗 https://www.linkedin.com/in/george-bou-rizk-510b7a91/🌐 https://www.genesysdesign.com.au💭 What could your business become if growth strengthened its identity instead of diluting it?If something is shifting in your business, leadership, growth journey, start with a Strategic Shape Shift Diagnostic:https://calendly.com/beeformless/strategicshapeshiftdiagnostic#beeformless #flowdrivenceo #genesysdesign #sharedleadership #succession #culture #engineering #innovation #businessgrowth
