When leadership stops being about Perfection | Presence, trust & regenerative growth | Nicole Bowles
from Bee Formless™ Flow Driven CEO
In this episode of the Bee Formless™ Flow Driven CEO Podcast, I connected with Nicole Bowles, CEO of Basketball ACT, to explore female leadership, community, motherhood and what changes when leadership shifts from proving ourselves to building trust, presence and regenerative growth. As the first female CEO in Basketball ACT’s 75-year history, Nicole leads one of Australia’s fastest-growing basketball communities. From the very beginning of our conversation, she spoke openly about the parts of leadership that rarely make it into annual reports or leadership books. At one point she smiled and described herself as “a recovering perfectionist”, a moment that resonated wholeheartedly with me and, I suspect, many leaders carrying the weight of trying to hold everything together. We went into self-doubt, carrying responsibility, learning how not to burn out and letting go of the pressure to prove yourself. Nicole also shared the importance of creating space between work and home, surrounding yourself with the right support network and recognising that women are often their own harshest critics. Running through it all was one simple truth: the strongest leadership begins long before you lead others, it begins by knowing yourself from the inside out.Rather than chasing performance at any cost, Nicole believes sustainable results are created when the foundations are right.“If you’ve got the right people, systems and processes… the performance will come.”Nicole’s approach reminds us that regenerative leadership is not created by carrying more, controlling more or proving more. It is created by establishing the conditions for people, teams and communities to shine their brightest and grow together.THE SHAPE SHIFT IN MOTIONAt the heart of this conversation was a shift from trying to prove yourself to learning how to trust yourself. This is how that shift unfolded through the Bee Formless™ methodology.LEARN (LETTING GO)✨ The belief that leadership requires constant proving, pushing or perfection.✨ The pressure to carry everything yourself.✨ The idea that sustainable growth can exist without sustainable leadership.UNLEARN (CREATE, REIMAGINE & RESHAPE)✨ Reimagine leadership as presence, trust and adaptability.✨ Build strong foundations before chasing performance.✨ Create environments where people feel supported, connected and able to grow.RELEARN (TEST & IMPLEMENT)✨ Know yourself before trying to lead others.✨ Build the right people, systems and culture around you.✨ Protect your energy so you can continue leading for the long term.ACTIVE RECOVERY (REFLECT & RESET)✨ Where are you still trying to prove yourself?✨ What expectations are you carrying that no longer serve you?✨ How might trusting yourself change the way you lead?🔗 https://www.linkedin.com/in/nicole-bowles-6293701a4/🏀 https://basketballact.com.au💭 How would you lead if you knew you had nothing to prove? If something is shifting in your business, leadership or growth journey, start with a Strategic Shape Shift Diagnostic:https://calendly.com/beeformless/strategicshapeshiftdiagnostic#beeformless #flowdrivenceo #basketballact #femaleceo #womeninleadership #leadershipdevelopment #regenerative #communitysport #presence #trust #soulfulhighflowconsciousleadership
