When Mainstream Coverage isn't Enough

from Mommying While Muslim · host Zaiba Hasan & Uzma Jafri

For those of you who are counting on news from the ground in Gaza, you know and follow journalist Leali Shalabi who consistently provides daily 24-hour newscaps from Gaza. She’s not only sharing her process and commitment to covering Palestine, her insights into being a Palestinian American are mind blowing for us. We’re never too old or too proud to learn something new alhamdulillah. There’s been a lot of discussion about how Gen Z is changing the conversation on Palestine through social media. Hearing it from a Gen Z trained journalist who is also on social media to provide accurate information we can’t otherwise get from mainstream media means a lot to us.  It’s changed the language we are used to media using, as well as the news coverage being shared. As we say on the podcast, we have never been able to speak so openly on Palestine before 2023, and we really think social media has a lot to do with this. How is mainstream media falling in line and how is it not?The tides have turned, as the ICJ trial today proves, and we credit the new language of media fueled by the visual story of Palestine and thank journalists by choice as well as the journalists doing it under duress directly in the line of fire. We pray for their protection, reward, and freedom, as well as for justice on the world stage today. Allahuma ameen.Tune in at 6pm EST on Apple podcasts, Stitcher, Amazon Music or head over to our website to listen today and share it with a young person considering journalism.    Leali Shalabi on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lealishalabi/Send esims to journalists in Gaza now: https://gazaesims.com/esim-purchase-tutorial/ Follow Palestinian journalists on IG@motaz_azaiza@wizard_bisan1@gazanewslive@gazamedicvoices@lealishalabiFollow Palestinian voices on IG@imeu@[email protected]@jenanmatari@paccusa@dcipalestineAllies on IG@[email protected] @owenjones84@breakingthesilenceisraelWeb: www.mommyingwhilemuslim.comEmail: [email protected]: Mommying While Muslim page and Mommyingwhilemuslim groupIG: @mommyingwhilemuslimpodcastYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrrdKxpBdBO4ZLwB1kTmz1wDid you know you can send us a text?
