Who Am I Outside These Roles? The Quiet Loss of Self as First-Gens

from First Gen Healing - Latinx Healing and Awakening Journeys · host Priscilla Luna

Hola! In this episode I was joined by la Dra. Miriam Martinez and we spoke about how as first gens we can lose our identity in the roles that we occupy without realizing it. Sometimes to the point where we have already "have found ourselves" we just easily leave ourselves behind. We hope you enjoy this Part 1 and Part 2 will be out next week! -------------------------------Get to Know Today's Guest: My name is Miriam Martinez and I was born and raised in So-Cal. My mother was an immigrant from Mexico and raised myself and three siblings. Growing up, I knew I was different and always felt like I didn’t belong. I went to college at the University of Redlands and received my BA in Spanish and Psychology, MA in Counseling K-College Track, and my EdD in Leadership for Educational Justice. My educational and career journey showed me that so many 1st-generation people are torn between our cultures and traditions and the issues we now face navigating life. As a mother of three daughters, I had to make the conscious decision to heal my generational trauma as well as come to terms with being an empath, someone who believes in so much more than religion. Follow my journey on tiktok ------------------------------------------ If you’re craving more spaces like this, Soul Prim@s is an online community where we land, reflect, and stay connected between episodes.
