Hey, what's up, SB Warriors? And today we're gonna talk about why I've been holding myself back and I'm wondering, hey, were you possibly doing the same thing? Hey guys, if you're like me, you've always had a desire to do more. And deep inside, you've known there's a way and a possibility for you to achieve your dreams, the lifestyle, and achieve the freedom you've always wanted.
Because we have what it takes to get things done and learn from others and get the mindset to achieve the dreams we've always wanted. Welcome to SB Warriors. Okay, SB Warriors, so you know what? Welcome today, hi, I'm Paul Kay.
And so today I'm kind of thinking of like, you know what? I originally set up this podcast, this video cast, to reach out to other business owners to help them out. And I'm always encouraging other people who are especially experts in their field to find some sort of way, a platform, whether it's audio, visual, auditory, that they can reach more people. And so my initial concept was, you know what?
I'm going to interview business owners and I still want to do it. And things have been busy, we have a six month, and all these other things. Did you hear the butt? And so I'm creating my own mind that's limiting what I can and can't do.
And the reality is, I think I've been hesitant to do it because I've been wanting to interview business owners and I've had a series of people say, yes, I'm gonna do it. But I haven't scheduled the time. Now, yes, it's been busy. Yes, I work a full-time job.
Yes, I'm extremely, we have three kids and yeah, it's part of life. But if you don't start to push yourself to do more, to attempt more, you're never going to get out of your comfort zone. And so what I realize is, you know what? I'm stalling myself.
I think out of a little bit of fear of what that business owner may think of our interview process. And so if I'm doing this, I can only imagine what other business owners are doing, what other entrepreneurs are doing. Because the reality is, I think we all know we need to do a little bit more to step up our game. But some part of us, there's this fear of, you know what?
If I do this, I'm exposing myself. I am opening myself up for criticism. And you know what? The reality is, you're getting criticism regardless.
You're getting criticism all the time. And it's like, what can we do to avoid that? And you really can't. You do step yourself out there.
And I can imagine a lot of people hearing this is like, I don't want to put myself out there. But then they're like, what I want the desired result of having more people who are interested in my products and my services. So it's like, you can't have it both ways. So if you know inside, you've been like holding yourself back and you're like, hey, I need to do this and I've been hesitant to do it.
You know, you got to ask yourself, what is it that? What is my limiting belief that I've been holding myself on that I'm afraid to actually take that step to do the thing that I know I'm supposed to do? So right now, I believe this is something I'm supposed to do. And I said, you know what?
I've been holding this off for a number of years. And you know what? Now I'm just going to do it. And if I suck at the beginning, you know what?
So be it. At least I'll suck less each and every time I do it. And I think if a lot of times we just go with that mindset, it's like, we're not expected to be perfect at the first time we do anything. I remember the first time I was driving a stick shift in a car.
And so I grew up in the Midwest. And I had this old Ford, if you remember this car, it's a Ford Festiva. And it was brand new. So my parents were very nice.
And it was this deal to keep me basically in wrestling. And I wanted to quit because I was trying to lose all his way and I couldn't stand it. So we get a stick shift. And I was like, okay, cool.
My dad's trying to show me how to do it. And I'm driving. I get to my first light in the light. If you've ever driven the stick shift, you have the clutch, you have the braking, you have the gas and you have to balance the two between the clutch and the gas in order for the gear to engage.
And so you go forward. And you don't, your car will jerk forward and you'll stall. And so there's a little bit of a dip in a Ford arcing, kind of like a little bit of a hill to make a right turn. And so I couldn't get.
I stalled the car at least five times. And I was getting so flustered, I no longer cared about uncubbing traffic. I became completely narrow-focused. And I was like, I'm all about making this clutch and this stick shift worked together.
And I'm like, just go, I don't care if there's cars in front of me. I was just trying to go. Well, thank God my dad was in the car next to me. I can only imagine what he was thinking.
And I'm just like, trying to do it, stall, start, stall, start, and bear us. You see, it's a six lane highway of traffic. And you can feel people looking at you and you're trying to look cool. Because when you're a teenager and you're trying to drive, you want to be cool.
But you're not, especially if it's a stick shift, you don't drive. Probably the worst street to probably bring me on. But I get stuck. And luckily my dad said, you know what?
Just stop. Just stop. And he got out of the car. And he was probably more mortified than I was.
Because I was able to slide over. And my dad just got out of the, he's like, scoot over. He got in. And we drove off safely.
I didn't hit anybody. And I just remember, like, man, I was just going for it. I didn't care. I was like, I was so like, I have to do it.
But I was really embarrassed that I almost was willing to potentially, like, damage the brand new car I just got. I was like, I wasn't thinking. Well, a lot of times, even though we may want these results, you know, we have to be willing to learn. And I learned that, you know what?
I can't drive like that. I also won't have a car and have the ability to drive. I will hurt somebody. And I need to, you know, find a system, find something away and go somewhere safe.
And the probably the best thing I learned is I just found somewhere isolated. I found a little hill. And I would just practice on a little bit of roll forward, practice a little roll forward. And eventually I learned to find that friction point and balance the push and push of the collection of the gas at the same time.
And I think if you guys think about it this way, you're not going to be an expert, you know, stick shift driver the first time you try doing something. And so we expect this, like, we're going to be these people that are going 100%. You know, it's like, look, if you know Michael Jordan as you should, but if you don't, you know, like Michael Jordan, LeBron James, any famous athlete, they didn't start off at that spot. So why would you expect yourself to?
And it's okay. You're going through your own transformational process. I'm going through this transformational process. Because I start diving into different topics and putting myself out there.
And now I'm recognizing, it's like, I'm like, why haven't I interviewed anybody? It's because I haven't set it up because I've been stopping myself. And I don't know if it's more like I can do this. I can talk to you guys.
I don't know if it's more out of fear of what that individual person may feel and, you know, how's this interview going to go? It's the first time doing all this other stuff. And the reality is I just need to do it. And you know, like, worried about what they think you're just actually creating excuses to stop me from doing it.
So hopefully soon I will have some people who are interested in what I want to interview them to kind of find the mindset, what makes them kind of take them to the step to where they're at. And I think it's important because we're all at different steps. But just think about that stick shifting and be willing to find that where that friction point is so you can push forward and you can start to drive more traffic, more people to your business because you're now putting yourself out there in a way that you should, in a way that you've probably always known that will ultimately help your business because communication has changed. It's no longer just throw up an ad and put yourself up on the internet with a website that you'll succeed.
So now we have to find more ways to reach more people so they get a chance to know us. So think about that. Hopefully you guys are taking these risks. If you need a little bit encouragement, a little bit of push, you know, leave a comment ask me and I'll be happy to give any suggestions or questions you have.
