Why Doctors Crap All Over Hormones Pellets and Why They Need to Suck it Up and Get on Board

from Modern Marriage with Monica · host Monica Almaguer

Tired of doctors constantly bashing hormone pellets? In this video, I break down why I think the criticism is unfair and often comes from personal bias rather than patient-centered care. Hormone pellets are small, bioidentical (estrogen and testosterone) implants inserted under the skin with a minor incision in the hip. They provide a slow, steady release: levels rise over about 6 weeks, stabilize for months, then gradually taper off—requiring re-insertion every 3-4 months. No daily creams, no weekly injections—just set it and forget it! Hormones are life-changing for so many women—improving energy, mood, libido, vaginal health, and even strengthening marriages. Everyone agrees on that. The real issue? Doctors deciding FOR patients which delivery method is "best" instead of presenting ALL options (pellets, creams, patches, injections) with honest pros and cons, then letting the woman choose. I was on pellets for 5 years and loved them—no issues, amazing results. I only switched recently to match my husband's testosterone method (injections), and honestly? It's been rough getting levels right, and I still have some vaginal dryness that pellets completely eliminated for me. Common doctor complaints about pellets: Expensive/out-of-pocket (true, but for me, $450 every 3 months saved time—no copays, fewer visits, all labs included). Minor incision required. Risk of over-dosing (that's a doctor issue, not pellets—happens with any method). Hard to adjust initially since you're committed for months (fair, so start low!). But these aren't pellet flaws—they're trade-offs. Some women hate daily creams (messy!) or self-injections. I chose pellets because I'm busy and "lazy" about routines—time is a bigger factor than money for me. Even respected experts like Dr. Kelly Casperson (whom I admire) say patients have to "earn" pellets. I call BS—no woman should have to "earn" any option. It's arrogant to project personal preferences onto patients. Women in menopause groups rave about pellets: best sex ever, husbands can't keep up, life-transforming energy and confidence. Thousands (maybe millions) love them—why ignore that? Doctors: stop the negativity. Present facts, respect patient choice. If pellets work for someone, great! If not, switch—no judgment.
