Why Does Evil Seem to Get Away With It?

The scariest kind of judgment is the kind you don’t see coming, because life looks fine on the surface. We open Romans 1:18 and ask the question people have asked for centuries: why do the wicked prosper, and why does God seem quiet when evil is loud? Dr. Timothy Mann answers with a sober reminder that God’s wrath can be delayed without being denied, and that a postponed reckoning can still be a righteous reckoning. We also dig into what Paul actually means when he says “the wrath of God is revealed from heaven.” That phrase isn’t abstract or poetic. We talk through two ways God reveals wrath: through the moral order of the world, where sin carries built-in consequences, and through God’s direct personal intervention, where the Lord acts according to his will in real history. Along the way, we challenge the idea that God is a distant force and confront the comforting slogan that “God is not angry” when Scripture says otherwise. Then the message gets personal. God’s wrath is revealed against all ungodliness and unrighteousness, which means none of us escapes by comparison, tradition, or good deeds. We unpack ungodliness as a failed relationship with God that refuses reverence and true worship, and unrighteousness as the outward life that follows. We also face the hard diagnosis of Romans 1: people suppress the truth by holding tightly to sin, even though God has made knowledge of himself evident within them. The closing call is both urgent and hopeful: don’t toy with a holy God, and don’t ignore the mercy offered in Jesus Christ, who takes the penalty of sin and absorbs wrath at the cross.
