Why Does Gen Z Seem So Entitled?

from Kindness Matters EDU · host Maggon Osmond

Why does Gen Z sometimes seem entitled at work? In this episode, we take a closer look at what may be underneath the behaviors frustrating today’s managers. Drawing from Liz Wiseman’s research with Gen Z workers ages 22–29, we explore why some young employees struggle. Gen Z wants to understand the why, see the bigger picture, avoid meaningless work, and know that their effort matters. We explore eight workplace patterns—from their need for clarity, structure, feedback, empathy, flexibility, and development to their expectations around technology and their desire to trust people before systems. But this episode isn't about excusing poor behavior. It’s about asking a better questions, such as: "What does our leadership need to do differently to help them develop into employees who can meet the expectations we have for them?"
