Why is offering food to yogis, saints and enlightened beings considered the highest form of dharma? | ஞானியர்களுக்கு அன்னதானம் செய்வது ஏன் உயர்ந்த தர்மமாக கருதப்படுகிறது?
from Santhosam Podcast: Guiding Light of Spiritual Wisdom
In the 13th Velvi discourse (2002–2003), Gurumahan explains that the highest dharma of householders is to honour yogis, nourish seekers with food and service, and thereby receive Divine blessings that protect and uplift their lineage. The scriptures say, “Atithi Devo Bhava”, a guest is like God. Our dharma is to give food to guests and respect them as divine. Dharma also teaches us to see the mother as God, the father as God, the guru as God, the brother as God, and the brother’s wife as divine. According to this dharma, giving even one meal to a guest brings great merit. But today you are not guests. You are yogis and wise seekers. In the coming time, you will arise as divine souls, as great sages, rishis, and seers. Therefore, doing even a small good deed for yogis and noble people like you brings great merit. Many wise seekers have come here today and shared food. Many people have already sat inside the pyramid and practiced meditation. From now on, many more ascetics will come here every day. Some of these spiritual seekers are visible to our eyes, and some are not.Offering even one meal to them brings great benefit to you and also becomes a strong protection for your life. Because of this, serving the welfare of people and protecting spiritual centres of tapas (JnanaPeedam) and wisdom is considered the highest duty of householders. That is why householders build temples, create ponds and water sources, and do many good deeds for society. All these acts form their greatest dharma. Today, the service you have done for this divine place is also one of the highest forms of dharma. This divine power returns your offerings with double blessings. It also brings growth and prosperity to your family lineage.Send us Fan MailLet Wisdom Flourish!Let Peace Prevail! Let us protect Mother earth!Let us protect the Universe!
