Why Renting Beats Owning in This Broken Economy

from The SatsMate Stack · host Paul SatsMate

Hey Satsmate Stackers, I hope you are all having a great week! We are seeing prices stay elevated, interest rates stay elevated, while the labor market seemingly is strong. Stocks are hitting all-time highs, while many interest rate-sensitive assets like Bitcoin remain muted. In this economy, I can get a much better deal renting than buying. Specifically, in this podcast, I cover the following: In this economy, I think renting is greater than owningI’m paying $2100 or so per month for where I am living, if I put 20% down & had a mortgage, I would be at $3400This delta, I am going very hard and investing, as I know I need to build equity in my futureThat difference between rent & buy can’t just be spent though; it needs to be allocated with a purposeMost things I think we should buy outright, like a car, any electronic device, and things that go into a homeAny experience should be owned & never financed as wellHomes are something that have been propped up way too high, due to institutional investment, and people treating homes as money because the money is brokenRent isn’t always better than owning - but I think it depends on one's situation, homes in the area you are in, how much down payment you have, and what horse you think is the fastestAs many of us know, we never really own our homes - rather, we are perpetually paying taxes, fees, HOA, huge commissions, utilities, and moreDon’t go into buying a home just cause everyone else isTrust me, I don’t like rules - and having a home gives you more freedom - but is an HOA really freedom? Many people who “Own” their home maybe can’t travel as much, or can’t put money into certain activities they valueI think after tax, you need to try to keep it between 15-20% tops, the bankers and everyone say 30-40%, but that just means you are bound and house poorDon’t follow what everyone else does - or you will become just like everyone elseIf you like this, feel free to share it, leave a like, or comment.
