Wimbledon Day 1 - Sinner survives in 5, Djokovic under the lights + Coco gets a grass win!
from Tennis Weekly
It’s Day 1 of Wimbledon and what a day it was! Novak Djokovic won under the lights in a late finish and defending Champion Jannik Sinner was pushed to 5 sets by Miomir Kecmanović. Elsewhere for the top ladies seeds it was plain sailing with Sabalenka, Osaka, Pegula and Gauff easing into Round 2 in straight sets. For the Brits it was a day to forget as Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu withdrew from the tournament injured and 10 Brits lost in the worst day for 21 years at The Championships. Joel and Chris also discuss the media boycott ending and how Jannik Sinner didn’t want to talk about it despite it being announced at the beginning of his press conference and prior to the world’s media. Another media day discussion that also made headlines was Serena Williams’ comments on drugs testing and quite a few inaccuracies in her statement that Chris fact-checks as well as previewing her return to singles after 4 years out of the game.BABOLATBabolat are an official partner of Wimbledon and their exclusive range for The Championships can be purchased as babolat.comSOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show [email protected] Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods.
