1 Samuel 8 is messy! The plight of Israel at this moment in the story is messy. They want a king to fight their battles, to be like the other nations, to replace corrupt priests, but will a king make them lose their distinctiveness as God’s chosen people? How do we pray when our whole body aches for deliverance? How do we hope when tragedy strikes? How do we learn to want what God wants? In this worship series, we examine moments of longing in scripture: from the earliest days of the Hebrew people to the last book in the Bible, we will glean wisdom and fortitude from the stories of our faith forebears on what it means to long for God in a chaotic world.
