Stop running on Empty: Time-Management as a Spiritual Disciple - "How Do You Sabbath?"
A spiritual discipline is a habit or practice used in the bible by persons such as Jesus, the disciples, apostles, or prophets. Prayer and reading scripture are two of the most emphasized spiritual disciplines. Keeping a Sabbath day is the only spiritual discipline mentioned in the Ten Commandments, though. In our church and culture today, a 24-hour period set aside once every 7 days for rest and worship is practically non-existent.Time-management is a term used often today to maximize how we use each day. While not a biblical term, time-management is a habit that we see Jesus using often. He was very intentional about how he used his time. He would retreat to be alone when he needed to, he would protect his time for Sabbath, but he was also known to break Sabbath law rules if it meant helping people in need. How is time-management a spiritual discipline you practice today? If you don’t currently make a Sabbath day a priority, what steps could you take to prioritize this spiritual discipline? How could you make spiritual disciplines more of a priority to achieve a more restful and grounded life?Series: Stop Running on Empty: Time-Management as a Spiritual DisciplineSermon: “How Do You Sabbath?” – Rev. Series: The Ultimate GiftSermon: "The Gift of Laughter" Joey GarciaC.S Lewis wrote “Joy is the serious business of heaven.” Joy is not simply a seasoning to add to church gatherings and it’s okay if we don’t have any joy, any laughter or any fun. Joy is vital to a congregation’s health and well being and it’s also vital in our own lives. It is important not to take ourselves and everything we do too seriously and understand the importance in being able to laugh at one’s self and even difficult circumstances.Find us on social media: Facebook and Instagram. “Why Does Jesus Use Parables?” Rev Russell Clark
Series: The Scandal of the Kingdom: How the Parables of Jesus Revolutionize Life on Earth as It Is In HeavenSermon: “Why Does Jesus Use Parables?”Jesus would explain the kingdom of heaven through parables as a way to connect everyday living to what heaven will be like. These stories required the hearer to listen with their hearts. They invited contemplation, not argument. A New Disciples Movement "Deconstruction & Reconstruction" - Rev. Russell Clark
The motto of our denomination is “no creed but Christ.” We are constantly evolving and learning how to be better disciples so we can’t be held to a certain creed or dogma. We are biblically progressive, meaning we are open to questions about biblical interpretation and context and seeing how God speaks to us in new ways today.Find us on social media: Facebook and Instagram. Sermon: Disciples and Authority, Rev Russell Clark
Series: A New Disciples MovementSermon: Disciples and AuthorityWe believe that all authority is under Jesus Christ. We believe in a priesthood of all believers – where the pastor, ministry staff, elders, deacons, and members work together as ministers for one another. The representative responsibility of the pastor is circular in nature because the pastor is responsible for the people, but the people are responsible for the pastor. "Sacred Anger" - Rev. Russell Clark
Series: Table-Flipping LeadershipSermon: "Sacred Anger" - Rev. Russell ClarkJesus told us not to be angry during the sermon on the mount (Matthew 5:21-22) so it is confusing to see Jesus express such anger when he was a man of peace. His anger is at the temple of worship being used for the wrong purpose. Would Jesus be upset with us today? Is this out of character for Jesus? When is it appropriate for leaders – and for all of us disciples – to “curse trees” and “move mountains”?Find us on social media: Facebook and Instagram. God tends to take us and give us a new name, separating our old deceptive, sinful selves and make us new.
