Yodeling, a cherished Swiss tradition, thrives in urban Basel through clubs like Jodler Club Echo Basel. In this episode, we speak to Shona Holmes, a member of Yodel Club Echo Basel, Corrine Utzinger, Co-President of Youth Couir jutz.ch, and Marianne Leibundgut, President of Jodlerclub Echo Basel. They highlight yodeling's community-building power and its relevance beyond mountainous landscapes. The upcoming Jodlerfest in Basel aims to rejuvenate interest and showcase Switzerland's UNESCO cultural heritage.  All You Need To Know About The Thirty-Second Swiss Federal Yodel Festival in Basel The 32nd Swiss Federal Yodelling Festival, kicks off on Friday, June 26th, and running straight through Sunday, June 28th. Now, if you think yodelling belongs strictly up in the mountain peaks, think again. For the first time since 1924, this massive event is taking over the city of Basel, Switzerland, under the brilliant motto 'Stadt und Land mitenand', bringing city life and country tradition together. Over the duration of the festival, Basel is going to completely transform. We are talking about 12,000 active performers descending on the city. From master yodellers and alphorn players to highly skilled traditional flag-wavers. Plus, over 200,000 visitors are expected to flood the streets to take in the magic. Here is a quick snapshot of what you need to know if you are tuning in or heading out: Over 1,000 judged choir and solo yodelling performances will be taking place inside ten beautiful churches and concert halls across Grossbasel. The party officially starts on Friday. 19th June, at noon when the custom-built 'Yodeller Village' opens up. Saturday features non-stop music and a live national broadcast of Potzmusig. And Sunday wraps up with a massive, colorful Grand Festival Parade cutting through the city at 2:00 PM. The best part? Most of the street festivities and the Yodeller Village are completely free to explore! If you want to head indoors to watch the official jury competitions, you just need to grab a festival badge. Public transport is highly recommended, so check out SBB Railway for special event trains. Stay out late, for spontaneous, informal yodelling sessions break out along the historic alleys of Basel's Old Town.
