Yes there is a ton of opportunity to make money in music, but from the fans point of view, that can't be what it looks like you're doing. Put yourself in the fans shoes. Think about how you feel as a fan of anyone's music. The last thing you want is for them to always try to sell you something. You want them to make great music and entertain you. If they pitch a product from time to time, ok cool. But if they're in your face every day hounding you to buy, you feel like a commodity. No one wants to feel that way. So as a musician you need to think as if you were the fan in every situation. Ask yourself, "how would the fan see this?", or even, "how would I feel if my favorite musician did this?". Once you view things from the fan perspective, you will start to have more success in this music industry. Set up all the opportunities possible for fans to give you money, whether merch, music or donation. Then just entertain them. It will all work out in the end.
