He has had three shows produced in andaround Boston, Mass. The musical "Shattered! An American Fairy Tale"with music and lyrics by Kelvyn Koning was awarded first place in the 33rdAnnual Jackie White Memorial Playwriting Contest and will be produced by theColumbia Entertainment Company in 2025. His script for "América Jonze:Pilot" was named a Second Rounder in the Austin Film Festival 2024,received Honorable Mention in the Big Apple Film Festival 2023, and has placedin several other national writing contests. He also created an originaltranslation and adaptation of "The Canterbury Tales: A Childe’s Tale"and wrote the book for "Beneath the Skin" (music and lyrics byMelissa Carubia), a musical commissioned by BIO: KARL SHEFELMAN: In addition to "America Jonez", Karl is developing his secondfeature film project, "The Gold Porsche Robberies". Based on a truestory set in Karl's hometown of Austin, Texas, this film will be a darklycomedic true-crime drama with a ton of heart and an underlying social message. Karl's short film, "Man on the Tower", screened atnumerous film festival and won a Remi Award for best short film at WorldfestHouston in 2021. Based on actual events, it tells the story of some young kidswitnessing the 1966 Charles Whitman mass shooting from their back yard inAustin, Texas. Karl's debut feature film, LOOKING FOR THE JACKALOPE, based on atrue story, won both Jury and Audience Awards for Best U.S. Feature at the 2017Austin Revolution Film Festival. Distributed by Indie Rights Movies, it is nowavailable on Amazon and many other platforms. Karl wrote another screenplaycalled THE HUNTERS, also based on a true story, which was a Semifinalist in the2015 Nicholl Fellowships Screenplay Competition and a TOP 50 SCRIPT. In addition, Karl has worked as a storyboard artist fornumerous A-list directors including Ron Howard, Martin Scorsese, Francis FordCoppola, and Ridley Scott.
