There we were, Glen and I. Littleboxes on a Zoom screen separated us.       Onceor sometimes twice a week. The boxes kept moving, changing our view. Never hada conversation. But admiration for his author’s journey and Southern Californialife. Then universal alignment. We chatted on Zoom two weeks ago to getacquainted. I was in awe at Glen’s journey. Several times from the heart, Isaid there is a movie to be made about his life. He’s wonderfully eloquent,charming, brilliant, worldly, and knowledgeable beyond. Of course, thisinterview was born. Some elements and words now. As a kid, a friend had amimeograph machine (see Animal House). Glen begins writing a newspaper. Marinebiology. Meat cutter. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedic, captain, disasterpreparedness. Manuals for FEMA. Motorcycling the country in 1976. Scuba diving.A brave new world. Glen discussed the Implicate Order (David Bohm). Look it up.Now he’s writing futuristic novels. Loved the cover of ‘Tears of a ThousandYears.’ He loves Groundhog Day. Me too. Be curious. Not judgmental. He stressedthe importance of always having a ½ tank of gas. “Life is uncertain. Eatdessert first.” I loved that quote from Glen. So along with a dog,bicycle, and baseball mitt, Glen and friends had access to a device thatallowed them to put out a neighborhood newspaper— and they shamelessly did so!   Thisencouraged his lifelong love of writing. In his next career, Glen became aparamedic for a fire department. As part of his medical background, he tooktraining as a lay midwife. In the fire dept he had several roles, includingdisaster preparedness educator, inspector, and captain, writing trainingmanuals by day and fiction by night. Glen is atrained scuba diver and has toured the continent on a motorcycle. Today he is afulltime writer and all of his experiences tend to wind up on the pages of hisnovels. Myjourney to meeting Lindsay Crouse fits. Now, one of my most endearing andpoignant afternoons. How does this happen? I watch ‘All the President’s Men’ asa journalist every eight weeks. A bit OCD. Two weeks ago, I wondered who playedKay Eddy at the Washington Post. Lindsay Crouse. A bright light bulb. ‘SlapShot’ with Paul Newman. All her roles are complicated women.  Energized, I reached out, something I’ve never done. Here weare. I love it when my cerebral process is swirling with input. Lindsay isbrilliant, accomplished, gracious, passionate, and consummate. Beneath thecamera on Zoom, I ceremoniously pinch myself. There is so much to thisinterview with Lindsay. You all need to watch. Replete with synchronicity andspirituality.Her father, Russel Crouse, was an accomplished playwrightwith Howard Lindsay. (A Tony Award for the book, ‘Sound of Music.’) Her mother,Anna, was an actress and activist. All that instructional energywent into Lindsay’s performance in ‘The Verdict.’ I watched the movie onSunday. Lindsay is amazingly riveting. Then her Academy Award-nominatedperformance in ‘Places in the Heart.’ Her director, Robert Benton, from Texas,was brilliant. The movie’s ending is brilliant. Someone said, after beingnominated for the Academy Award, “It will be tough for you now.” Working with her then-husband David Mamet in ‘House ofGames’. A minimalist director. “We trusted each other.”  I asked another question. Lindsay answered,“Abraham Lincoln.” Enough said for now. A sumptuous, magical interview.
