Zephaniah

The book of Zephaniah confronts us with one of the hardest tensions in Scripture: a God of fierce, consuming wrath and a God of singing, rejoicing love. Both are real. Both are coming. Zephaniah makes clear that the Day of the Lord brings judgment on wickedness -- but it also brings the restoration of all things. The King of Israel, Yahweh himself, will stand in Jerusalem. He will gather his people, quiet them with his love, and reign in peace. The physical world will catch up to the spiritual redemption Christ has already purchased. If God sees every injustice and will one day right every wrong, that is not a reason for fear -- it is a reason for hope. The call from Zephaniah 2 still stands: seek the Lord, seek humility, seek righteousness. The door remains open.
