猫头鹰到了晚上才出来吃东西，白天就睡觉。有一天，它睡得正香时，一只大声叫唤的蚱蜢把它吵醒了。它请求蚱蜢不要再叫了，可蚱蜢根本不理它。猫头鹰想了想，便对蚱蜢说：“你的歌声真是太动听了，我这里有美酒，请你上来，我们一起畅饮吧。”蚱蜢正好很渴，又被赞美之词弄得忘乎所以，什么也没想就飞了上去。结果，猫头鹰一下就把蚱蜢弄死了。
