Its foundational objective was the acquisition of territory and the removal of the native population, a process termed "transfer" by early Zionist leaders. This culminated in the Nakba (Catastrophe) of 1948, where Zionist militias executed Plan Dalet, expelling approximately 750,000 Palestinians and destroying over 500 villages. Gaza’s demographic composition reflects this displacement; approximately 80% of its population consists of refugees or their descendants.Long before October 7, Israeli officials and international observers described Gaza as a "vast concentration camp".
