When F1 Was Better - Our Favourite Races

With April being pretty slow for racing in 2026, we decided to back up our recent rants about the state of F1 by giving some examples of races that were great, perhaps even our favourites. The rules were simple, choose a race from the last 26 years (2000-present), give a brief rundown of the events, and what made that race great. It could be anything from a tense battle at the front, a driver rampaging through the field, overtakes galore, or perhaps a total precession - anything goes! Join us as we run through 3 of the best races of the modern era.In this week's episode we discuss:Spain 2021: Lewis Hamilton vs Max Verstappen at the peak of their rivalry. A demonstration in tyre strategy and management.Germany 2013: Tyre-induced madness resulting in 2, 3, and 4 stop strategies that took an entire race to play out. Raikkonen hunts down Vettel for the win.Canada 2011: The longest race in F1 history, Jenson Button chases down Vettel in the dying stages of an insane race.April News: F1 and MotoGP news from the April break.Stay Ahead: Get the latest reports from the Australian and Chinese GPs at aheadattheapex.com or visit out linktree.Music: Action Racing Car Speed Motorcycle Automobile Drift MusicAudio File URL: https://pixabay.com/music/rock-action-racing-car-speed-motorcycle-automobile-drift-music-286246/Licensed to use for YouTube and other platforms. F1 Decision Making Through The Years

There's not been much racing since our last podcast, so as a bit of a special we decided to answer a burning question: has F1 become over-simplified in recent times? Well, to answer this we look back at the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, and the current season's Japanese Grand Prix and determine all the decisions teams were allowed to make throughout the Grand Prix weekend. From running a 3rd driver in practice to automatic energy deployment, we go full in on a topic for the first time in a while. Let us know what you think, should we do more of this? We really enjoyed it.In this week's episode we discuss:Toyota on Top: Toyota start the world endurance championship on the same form they finished last year, a victory against Ferrari on home soil.Genesis Rising: Newcomers Genesis broke all expectations in their first outing in Imola, can they continue this form for some good points later?Heartbreak for McLaren: With half an hour to go, the leading Garage 59 car pulls over and allows a titanic battle between BMW and Corvette to occur.F1 Decisions: F1 teams have it simple now right? It was much more complicated in my day, right? Come on the journey back in time with us as we discuss if teams really had it easier back then.Stay Ahead: Get the latest reports from the Australian and Chinese GPs at aheadattheapex.com or visit out linktree.Music: Action Racing Car Speed Motorcycle Automobile Drift MusicAudio File URL: https://pixabay.com/music/rock-action-racing-car-speed-motorcycle-automobile-drift-music-286246/Licensed to use for YouTube and other platforms. Martin Brundle must be Stopped

There may not be much racing going on at the moment but that hasn't stopped certain figures in positions of power or influence getting involved in the discussions surrounding how two of the biggest motorsports in the world should be governed. First up is F1, where perhaps the most famous voice of F1 in the modern era, Martin Brundle, has been making some noise about Max Verstappen retiring. Then we have the FIA, who are busy frantically making changes to their precious 2026 regulations following the horrible crash in Japan for Haas' Oliver Bearman. As if that wasn't enough, the FIM are currently under media scrutiny for the "new" track surface at the Brazilian GP that began to disintegrate on the first day of the weekend. It just isn't good enough, and we're going to have a good moan.In this week's episode we discuss:Brundle's Blunders: Martin's been making some noises about Verstappen and Norris, but his opinions don't seem to be consistent.Max In or Out: Will this be the final season for Max Verstappen, has he got one more left in him or is GT racing drawing him away?Where did the Track Go?: Why was the track surface such a nightmare at the Brazilian GP and can we trust the FIM to introduce a street circuit?Battery Problems: F1's 2026 regulations haven't had a week without scrutiny, Bearman's crash should be enough to raise some red flag.Stay Ahead: Get the latest reports from the Australian and Chinese GPs at aheadattheapex.com or visit out linktree.Music: Action Racing Car Speed Motorcycle Automobile Drift MusicAudio File URL: https://pixabay.com/music/rock-action-racing-car-speed-motorcycle-automobile-drift-music-286246/Licensed to use for YouTube and other platforms. Flavour of the Month: Italy

It certainly is a good time to be an Italian in motorsport. Whether you're Marco Bezzecchi leading the MotoGP title, Aprilia dominating on 2 wheels, Fabio Di Giannantonio coming in as the top scoring Ducati rider, Andrea Kimi Antonelli securing back-to-back wins and leading the F1 title, or Ferrari turning up with another strong season ahead, it's all coming up Italy this year.In this week's episode we discuss:Simply the Bez: Bez leads the way and seems unbeatable on Sundays, can he go the full distance?Aprilia on top: Aprilia have turned up with an absolute rocket ship, will infighting tear them apart?Fabiooooo: Nobody expected the VR46 rider to be Ducati's best hope. Can Kimi do it: Kimi could become the youngest F1 champion this year, can he beat Russell to the honours?WEC: With WEC right around the corner, can Ferrari defend their title?Stay Ahead: Get the latest reports from the Australian and Chinese GPs at aheadattheapex.com or visit out linktree.Music: Action Racing Car Speed Motorcycle Automobile Drift MusicAudio File URL: https://pixabay.com/music/rock-action-racing-car-speed-motorcycle-automobile-drift-music-286246/Licensed to use for YouTube and other platforms. Niche Sports are Better: Why F1 is Worse in 2026

120 overtakes or just 120 battery swaps? As F1 enters its most controversial era yet, the fans are screaming "fake racing", while the organisers hit the mute button. From hidden comments on X to mysterious timing graphics, we're taking a deep look at the 2026 regulations. A New Order, A Forgotten Champion, and an FIA Crackdown

The 2026 season opener in Australia and the follow-up in China have confirmed out biggest suspicions: Mercedes and Ferrari have found the "magic formula" for the new regulations. But as the spotlight shines on the new frontrunners, a glaring shadow remains over the reigning champion, Lando Norris. In this episode, we investigate:The McLaren Disappearance: How did the defending champions fall so far, and why is nobody talking about it?The Silver War: Can Ferrari halt the Mercedes momentum, and is Antonelli the real deal? The Aston Martin Controversy: Analysing the viral clips of Alonso's "no-hands" driving and the subsequent FIA intervention.Stay Ahead: Get the latest reports from the Australian and Chinese GPs at aheadattheapex.com or visit out linktree.Music: Action Racing Car Speed Motorcycle Automobile Drift MusicAudio File URL: https://pixabay.com/music/rock-action-racing-car-speed-motorcycle-automobile-drift-music-286246/Licensed to use for YouTube and other platforms. MotoGP 2026 Livery Review

On this week's episode of Ahead At The Apex, we are joined by Jake as we review the 2026 crop of bike liveries. There's a bit of a theme here, let's see if you can figure it out, a certain colour that keeps reappearing. Our top picks from this year are Lenovo Ducati, Trackhouse Aprilia, Factory Aprilia, and Red Bull KTM, all of whom have stayed true to their brand but evolved in what is mainly a filler year as we wait for a new set of regulations. This episode, originally recorded before the MotoGP season began features a little speculation about the strength of the Aprilia bike this year, which seems to have been proven correct. We're very much looking forward to the rest of the season which continues this weekend in Brazil. Speak of recording this episode early, we at Ahead At The Apex want to draw attention to recent developments in the calendar, and some comments that were made during this episode. We mention the Qatar Grand Prix and how much we are looking forward to seeing the bikes race under the spotlights. Since recording, the Qatar race has been postponed, potentially indefinitely. Similarly, the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia Formula 1 Grands Prix have been postponed. Our thoughts go out to the civilians in the region, and we hope the conflict is over soon.Onto lighter topics: we want to hear from you! We want to hear your questions and thoughts about all forms of motorsport, but particularly in this instance - MotoGP. If you have a question you want addressing, or a topic you'd like us to discuss, please get in touch via our Patreon (patreon.com/c/aatapex), Instagram (@aatapex), YouTube (@aatapex), or in our Spotify comments section. Will Fernando Alonso Stay At Aston Martin? F1 2026 Predictions

Join us for part 2 of our F1 2026 season predictions. Due to scheduling, this podcast was recorded before the 2026 Australian Grand Prix, so our washed up opinions were uninfluenced by whatever happened at the Grand Prix.On this week's episode we discuss who we think will be our biggest surprise of the season, which of the new teams comes out on top - Audi or Cadillac, and will there be any major dramatic moments. We also take a look at whether there will be some shock retirements, who will be the Monaco GP winner, and if we will get different winners in the first and last races of the season. All of that and more awaits. If you'd like to send us questions, please feel free to send us a DM on YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, or Patreon using aatapex as the @. Join us for part 1 of our 2026 F1 season predictions where we discuss who we think will come out on top from the big 4 teams, and who will likely be at the back. With a massive overhaul in regulations this year, it is all to play for, even if you start behind the pack.Which of the big 4 will have the clear advantage, if any? Or will it be immensely close race after race? Can Aston Martin quickly turn their season around and challenge at the front with an aggressive AMR26.We also take a look at the upcoming F1 fantasy game, commenting on token values.Send your questions in via YouTube or Spotify in the comments section, and get involved in the conversation on socials by following our link - linktr.ee/aatapex.Music:Action Racing Car Speed Motorcycle Automobile Drift MusicAudio File URL:https://pixabay.com/music/rock-action-racing-car-speed-motorcycle-automobile-drift-music-286246/

Pedro Acosta to Ducati and Yamaha's Wasted V4 Engine

Ahead of the 2026 MotoGP season opener, we take a look at the biggest stories from pre-season testing, the 2027 driver market, and make some bold predictions.Rumour has it Pedro Acosta is set for a move to the factory Ducati team in 2027 which could completely shake up the rider market. Pecco Bagnaia could go to Yamaha to replace Quartararo, who in turn could end up on a Honda alongside Jorge Martin. It is quite literally the biggest silly season since Rossi left Yamaha.Ducati showed complete control in pre-season testing, but Marco Bezzecchi showed great pace on his factory Aprilia, meaning it might not be a one-horse race this year.Fermin Aldeguer's pre-season injury could cause some serious problems for Gresini this year as the Spaniard will miss testing and the first few races, putting him well and truly on the back foot.Send your questions in via YouTube or Spotify in the comments section, and get involved in the conversation on socials by following our link - linktr.ee/aatapex.Music:Action Racing Car Speed Motorcycle Automobile Drift MusicAudio File URL:https://pixabay.com/music/rock-action-racing-car-speed-motorcycle-automobile-drift-music-286246/

Mercedes or Red Bull, Who's Looking Good After F1 Shakedown?

On this week's episode, we take a look at the relative performances at F1's 2026 Shakedown Testing in Barcelona. There's often not much to take away from private tests, as teams like to hold on to their secrets until the first qualifying session of the year. However, one thing we can look at is body language of the drivers, their responses to interviews, the mileage of the teams, confidence within the paddock, etc.So who do we think is looking good? Is it going to be Mercedes dominance as predicted by the engine regulation changes? Or are Red Bull going to start this year off well and develop like they did last year? Are Ferrari or McLaren in the mix again this year? Is there anything Adrian Newey can bring to Aston Martin to thrust them back up the order?Want to get involved in the discussion?
