S3 E5 The of the Tongue: Speaking Life or Death
In this episode of The Anchored Nurse, Paula and Melinda explore the biblical truth that our words carry the power of life and death (Proverbs 18:21). Through Scripture and real-life nursing application, they highlight how the tongue—though small—has tremendous influence, revealing the condition of our hearts and shaping the environments around us. They emphasize that life-giving speech flows from a transformed heart and should be marked by grace, encouragement, truth, and restraint (Ephesians 4:29). At the bedside and beyond, words have the ability to bring healing or harm, build up or tear down. The episode ultimately calls listeners to surrender their speech to God, asking Him to guard their mouths and use their words to reflect Christ—bringing hope, dignity, and life in every interaction. The Anchored Nurse 7-Day Speech Challenge “Speaking Life in Every Shift” Day 1: Awareness — What Am I Saying? Scripture (NKJV): “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” — Matthew 12:34 Focus: Pay attention to your words today—no judgment, just awareness. Practice: * Notice tone, complaints, sarcasm, encouragement * Ask: What is coming out of my heart? Reflection: Where did my words bring life today? Where did they not? Prayer: Lord, open my eyes to my words and what they reveal about my heart. Day 2: Pause — Slow the Tongue Scripture (NKJV): “Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.” — James 1:19 Focus: Create space before speaking. Practice: * Take a breath before responding * Especially in stressful or emotional moments Reflection: Did pausing change what I said—or how I said it? Prayer: Lord, teach me restraint and wisdom in my speech. Day 3: Speak Life — Be Intentional Scripture (NKJV): “Death and life are in the power of the tongue…” — Proverbs 18:21 Focus: Choose to speak life-giving words on purpose. Practice: * Encourage at least 3 people today * Speak hope, not fear Reflection: How did others respond to life-giving words? Prayer: Lord, use my words to bring life and encouragement today. Day 4: No Corrupt Speech — Filter Your Words Scripture (NKJV): “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification…” — Ephesians 4:29 Focus: Eliminate negativity, gossip, and tearing down. Practice: Before speaking, ask: * Is it true? * Is it necessary? * Is it edifying? Reflection: What did I choose not to say today—and why? Prayer: Lord, guard my mouth and refine my speech. Day 5: Gentle Words — Tone Matters Scripture (NKJV): “A soft answer turns away wrath…” — Proverbs 15:1 Focus: Your tone is just as powerful as your words. Practice: * Respond gently, especially in conflict * Lower your voice, soften your posture Reflection: Did gentleness change the outcome of a situation today? Prayer: Lord, make my words gentle and full of grace. Day 6: Silence — When Not Speaking Is Life-Giving Scripture (NKJV): “In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is wise.” — Proverbs 10:19 Focus: Not every thought needs to be spoken. Practice: * Hold back unnecessary opinions * Listen more than you speak Reflection: What happened when I chose silence instead of speaking? Prayer: Lord, teach me when to speak—and when to be still. Day 7: Surrender — Invite God Into Your Speech Scripture (NKJV): “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips.” — Psalm 141:3 Focus: Lasting change comes through surrender. Practice: * Begin the day with this prayer * Re-center throughout your shift Reflection: What has God shown me this week about my words? Prayer: Lord, I surrender my speech to You. Let my words reflect Your heart Bonus: Nursing-Specific Challenge Each day ask yourself: * Did my words bring peace or anxiety to my patient? * Did I speak about others in a way that honors God? * Did I reflect Christ in my shift even under stress?

S3, E3: The Attributes of God, Part 1
In this episode of The Anchored Nurse, Paula and Melinda explore how the unchanging attributes of God anchor believers in the ever-demanding world of nursing. Drawing from Hebrews 6:19, they remind listeners that our hope is not rooted in patient outcomes, workplace stability, or personal performance—but in who God is. They reflect on: • God’s Omnipotence — His limitless power in moments when nurses feel inadequate or overwhelmed. • God’s Sovereignty — His rule and authority even when suffering, loss, and uncertainty unfold at the bedside. • God’s Grace — The unearned favor that sustains us despite mistakes and reminds us we are saved by Christ, not performance. • God’s Mercy — His compassion, new every morning, shaping how we care for patients and colleagues. Through Scripture, personal reflection, and practical application, this episode encourages nurses to rest in the character of God rather than striving under the weight of outcomes. Because when we remember who God is, we are anchored—sure and steadfast.

S2 E9: A Living Hope in a Worn-Out World
✨ New Episode ✨ A living hope. An unfading inheritance. A God who keeps His people. Today on The Anchored Nurse, we reflect on 1 Peter 1:3–5 and what it means to be kept by the power of God—even when nursing feels heavy. 🎧 Listen now ⚓ Hebrews 6:19 #AnchoredNurse #LivingHope #ChristianNurse #FaithInNursing Short Devotional: “Kept by the Power of God” Scripture: “Who are kept by the power of God through faith…” — 1 Peter 1:5 (NKJV) Nursing often asks more than we feel we have to give. We show up tired, burdened, and sometimes quietly discouraged—yet still called to care. Peter reminds us that our hope is not sustained by strength or circumstance, but by God’s power. We are kept—guarded, preserved, and held—through faith. Even in seasons of waiting, like Hannah, God is at work beneath the surface. Before Hannah’s prayer was answered, her heart was steadied by hope. Nothing changed outwardly, yet everything changed inwardly. Christian nurse, your faithfulness is not unnoticed. When your hands are weary and your heart feels heavy, remember: you are not holding your life together—God is holding you. Prayer: Lord, anchor my heart in living hope. When I feel worn down, remind me that I am kept by Your power and sustained by Your mercy. Help me serve today from trust, not striving. Amen.

Season 2, Episode 6: "The Ugly Truth of Christmas-Why we needed a Savior"
Christmas didn’t begin with cozy lights or peaceful songs—it began because humanity was broken beyond repair. In Season 2, Episode 6 of The Anchored Nurse, Paula and Melinda confront the ugliness of Christmas: the darkness, sin, and desperation that made the incarnation necessary. Drawing from Scripture (NKJV) and the theological teaching often emphasized by John MacArthur, this episode explores why Jesus didn’t come to improve humanity—but to rescue it. Together, we examine biblical figures like Adam, David, and Isaiah, reflect on the human condition nurses encounter daily, and consider how understanding the depth of our brokenness actually anchors our hope. For nurses working in suffering, exhaustion, and moral complexity, this episode reframes Christmas as God’s decisive intervention—not sentiment, but salvation. ✨ If you’ve ever felt the weight of trying to “fix” broken systems or broken people, this episode is for you. 📖 “This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast…” (Hebrews 6:19, NKJV)

Season 2, Episode 4: A Star shall Rise!
In this powerful episode, Paula and Melinda examine the four oracles of Balaam—one of the most surprising prophetic episodes in the Old Testament. Although Balak hires Balaam to curse Israel, God sovereignly intervenes, placing His own words in Balaam’s mouth. The result? Blessings, prophecy, and a stunning messianic declaration: “A Star shall come out of Jacob; a Scepter shall rise out of Israel.” (Numbers 24:17) This episode explores how God’s Spirit came upon Balaam (24:2), how God repeatedly “put a word in his mouth” (22:38; 23:5, 12, 16; 24:13), and what this means for believers today—especially for nurses who face high-pressure environments, ethical challenges, and moments where they need wisdom beyond their own strength.
