Not Addicted To Alcohol, We're In The Middle Lane!

For a long time, the conversation around alcohol felt incredibly black and white. But what about everyone who sits somewhere in between?Years ago, I started using the term “middle lane” to describe my own relationship with alcohol, and it went on to resonate with far more people than I could ever have imagined. In this episode, I explore what it really means to be a middle lane drinker, why our relationship with alcohol isn't always easy to define, and why there might be another way to think about where you are right now.If you've ever questioned your drinking but felt that the usual labels simply don't describe you, this one's for you. What You'll Learn:What it means to be a middle lane drinkerWhy alcohol isn't always a black-and-white conversationA different way to look at your relationship with alcoholWhy questioning your drinking can be a positive stepWhat's possible when you start seeing alcohol differentlyTimestamps:00:00 – 03:00 Are you a middle lane drinker?03:00 – 06:00 Rethinking the traditional alcohol conversation06:00 – 09:00 Is there another way?09:00 – 12:00 Looking at your relationship with alcohol differently12:00 – End The growing alcohol-free adventureAnd if this episode has sparked something in you and you’re thinking about training as a coach, I’d love to help you take that next step.Whether you’re starting from scratch or looking to turn your own experiences into something that can help others, explore our coach training programmes at Coach Business School.Start your coaching journey: https://coachbusiness.school/And don’t forget to follow the podcast so you never miss an episode.Let’s do this.Andy

Why You Have A Thinking Problem, Not A Drinking Problem

For most people in what I call the middle lane, changing your relationship with alcohol isn't really about having a drinking problem. It's about having a thinking problem.Over the years, we build beliefs around alcohol. It's fun. It helps me relax. It helps me socialise. But how often do we stop and ask whether those beliefs are actually still true?Maybe alcohol felt fun when you were 19. But 10, 20 or 30 years later, when it's bringing tiredness, grumpiness, hangovers, anxiety, shame and regret, are you still getting what you think you're getting from it?In this episode, I explore why challenging the way you think about alcohol can completely transform your relationship with it. I also share a story from the early days of my alcohol-free journey that reminds us why other people's opinions don't have to define what's possible for us.Once you see alcohol differently, you can't unsee it. And that's when change can start to become so much easier. What You'll Learn:What I mean by the "middle lane" of drinkingWhy outdated beliefs about alcohol can keep you trappedHow questioning whether alcohol is still "fun" can change your perspectiveWhy other people's opinions don't have to determine your futureHow focusing on the alcohol-free advantage can transform what's possible in your lifeTimestamps:00:00 – 03:00 The middle lane and the thinking problem03:00 – 06:00 The book rejection that could have stopped me06:00 – 09:00 Challenging your old beliefs about alcohol09:00 – 11:00 Seeing the truth and changing your relationship with drinking11:00 – End The alcohol-free advantage and what's possible without alcoholAnd if your own alcohol-free journey has inspired you to help others, I'm running my Diploma in Alcohol-Free Performance Coaching this October. Brad Pitt Is Back On The Booze - My Views!

Brad Pitt is reportedly drinking again after around seven years of sobriety, and as you can imagine, everyone has an opinion. So, I thought I'd share mine. For me, this isn't about judging or shaming someone for making a personal choice. We're all wonderfully unique, and our relationship with alcohol is deeply personal. What works for one person might be completely wrong for another. But when someone as famous and influential as Brad changes their relationship with alcohol, it can have an impact. I know this because I've experienced something similar myself. Around 18 months into my own alcohol-free adventure, seeing someone close to my journey return to drinking made me question whether I should do the same.In this episode, I explore moderation, willpower, recovery, personal choice, and why ultimately the only relationship with alcohol that really matters is your own.If your life is better without alcohol, why would you put it back in?What You'll Learn:Why everyone's relationship with alcohol is completely uniqueWhy someone else's decision to drink again can make you question your ownMy own experience of nearly returning to alcoholWhy I believe moderation can become a difficult experiment with willpowerWhy your own lived experience matters more than anybody else's choicesTimestamps:00:00 – 04:00 Brad Pitt, sobriety and why everyone's journey is different04:00 – 08:00 My alcohol-free journey and finding the middle lane08:00 – 12:00 The moment I nearly went back to drinking12:00 – 16:00 Moderation, willpower and running the experiment16:00 – End If your life is better without alcohol, why drink? And if this episode has inspired you to explore coaching, I'd love to invite you to discover my training at Coach Business School, including the opportunity to train in life coaching, executive coaching and Alcohol-Free Performance Coaching.Explore Coach Business School: https://coachbusiness.school/And don't forget to follow the podcast so you never miss an episode.Let's do this.Andy

    Why Moderators Are Liars

Moderation sounds like the sensible middle ground. One or two drinks, stay in control, and carry on.But I think there's a problem with that story. For me, moderation means wanting more of something but using willpower to force yourself to have less. And when willpower inevitably runs low, one drink can become two, two can become five, and suddenly we're wondering what went wrong. In this episode, I unpack why I believe moderation creates more mental noise than freedom, how confirmation bias convinces us we're better at moderating than we really are, and why those people who can nurse one drink all night might not be moderators at all. Most importantly, I explore what happens when you stop negotiating with alcohol altogether and discover the peace, confidence, and freedom on the other side. What You'll Learn:Why moderation relies so heavily on willpowerHow confirmation bias distorts the story we tell ourselves about drinkingWhy one or two drinks can so easily become fiveThe difference between a moderator and what I call a "non-drinker in disguise"Why going alcohol-free removes the constant negotiation and mental noiseTimestamps:00:00 – 03:00 Why I believe moderation is doomed to fail03:00 – 06:00 Confirmation bias and the moderation story06:00 – 09:00 Why two drinks can so easily become five09:00 – 11:00 The "non-drinker in disguise"11:00 – End Escaping the noise of moderation and choosing alcohol-freeIf this episode has inspired you to explore coaching, I'd love to invite you to join my Diploma in Coaching & Positive Psychology (DCPP) cohort and train to become a life and executive coach, and specialise in Alcohol-Free Performance coaching. Apply here: Diploma in Coaching & Positive Psychology And don't forget to follow the podcast so you never miss an episode.Let's do this.Andy

It Pains Me To Say This. But Someone Has To.

This is one of the hardest truths I've ever had to accept. No one becomes a better person because of a drink. That doesn't mean people who drink are bad people. Far from it. It means alcohol never helps us become more authentic, more present, or more connected. It simply creates the illusion that it does.In this episode, I explore why alcohol convinces us we're becoming the person we want to be, why that illusion is so powerful, and why the greatest transformation begins when you finally meet the real you. What You'll Learn:Why alcohol creates the illusion of becoming a better version of yourselfThe difference between your authentic self and your alcohol-fuelled selfHow alcohol quietly fills the "gaps" we believe exist in our personalityWhy confidence built on alcohol is never lasting confidenceThe freedom that comes from showing up as your true selfTimestamps:00:00 – 02:00 The uncomfortable truth about alcohol02:00 – 06:00 Why alcohol tricks us into believing we're better people06:00 – 10:00 The illusion of confidence and "filling the gaps" in our personality10:00 – 14:00 What authenticity really looks like without alcohol14:00 – End Why your authentic self is your greatest superpowerIf this episode has inspired you to explore coaching, I'd love to invite you to join my Diploma in Coaching & Positive Psychology (DCPP) cohort and train to become a life and executive coach.Apply here: https://coachbusiness.school/diploma-capp/If you're looking to transform your relationship with alcohol, discover my Willpower Free Method and learn how to break free without relying on willpower alone.Find out more: https://andyramage.com/And don't forget to follow the podcast so you never miss an episode.Let's do this.Andy

Why Alcohol-Free Is The Secret To The Miracle Morning

What if the secret to transforming your mornings isn't another productivity hack? What if it's removing the one thing that's stealing them in the first place? For years, I believed I didn't have time. I thought I was too busy, too tired, and too stretched to exercise, study, write, or work on the life I really wanted. The truth was, I wasn't losing my mornings because of my schedule.I was losing them because of alcohol. In this episode, I share how going alcohol-free unlocked the Miracle Morning, why those quiet hours before the world wakes up became the foundation for everything I've built, and how just a few intentional minutes each morning can completely change the direction of your life. What You'll Learn:Why alcohol quietly steals your mornings and your momentumHow the Miracle Morning became the foundation of my transformationThe power of Hal Elrod's SAVERS methodWhy consistency beats intensity when building life-changing habitsHow one extra hour each morning can compound into extraordinary resultsTimestamps:00:00 – 04:00 Why alcohol-free mornings change everything04:00 – 09:00 Discovering the Miracle Morning and creating time for yourself09:00 – 15:00 How early mornings transformed my health, career, and coaching journey15:00 – 20:00 The SAVERS framework and how to make it a daily habit20:00 – End Building a life of purpose, one morning at a timeIf you’re curious about becoming a coach, I run a free live workshop where I’ll show you how this all works and how you can turn it into something meaningful and purposeful. Going alcohol-free isn't just about giving up a drink. It's about having the courage to question everything. The beliefs you've inherited. The stories you've been told. The assumptions you've accepted simply because everyone else believes them too.In this episode, I explore why choosing a different path takes courage, but why it's also one of the most rewarding decisions you can ever make.I share how removing alcohol became the first domino in a complete transformation of my life, leading me to question my career, my health, my beliefs, and ultimately the way I wanted to live.Because once you realise you don't have to follow the crowd, a whole new world of possibility opens up.What You'll Learn:Why going alcohol-free is one of the bravest decisions you can makeHow courage creates momentum for transformation in every area of lifeWhy challenging conventional thinking can unlock extraordinary opportunitiesHow removing alcohol helped me redesign my career and my futureWhy your greatest growth often lies on the other side of fearTimestamps:00:00 – 04:00 Why it takes courage to go against the crowd04:00 – 08:00 Escaping the alcohol trap and questioning conventional wisdom08:00 – 13:00 How courage transformed my health and lifestyle13:00 – 18:00 The courage to change careers and create a different life18:00 – End Why courage is the greatest gift of the alcohol-free adventureGoing Dry Documentary PremiereJoin us for the first public screening of Going Dry at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival TODAY, 8th July 2026 at Cinema Nova, Melbourne. For years, I thought I was showing up at my best on a Monday.Looking back, I wasn't even close.Like so many people, I was caught in a cycle of drinking, recovering, surviving, and calling it normal. I had no idea just how much alcohol was quietly stealing from me, not just my health, but my energy, ambition, focus, relationships, and productivity. In this episode, I explore why I believe alcohol is the world's biggest productivity killer, how it quietly puts a lid on our potential, and why removing it gives you an unfair advantage in every area of life.I also share the story of how going alcohol-free became one of the biggest competitive advantages in my own business, helping us break into one of the toughest industries imaginable. If you've ever wondered what life could look like if you consistently showed up as your best self, this episode is for you. What You'll Learn:Why alcohol quietly robs us of productivity, ambition, and momentumHow the "Hero on Monday, Zero on Thursday" cycle keeps people underperformingThe competitive advantage of living and working alcohol-freeWhy workplace drinking culture costs businesses billions every yearHow removing alcohol unlocks your true potential at work and at homeTimestamps:00:00 – 04:00 Why alcohol is the world's biggest productivity killer04:00 – 09:00 The hidden cycle of underperformance most people never see09:00 – 13:00 How going alcohol-free transformed my business career13:00 – 19:00 The real cost of workplace drinking culture19:00 – End Why alcohol-free living is the ultimate productivity hackGoing Dry Documentary PremiereJoin us for the first public screening of Going Dry at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival on 8th July 2026 at Cinema Nova, Melbourne. My Greatest Fear About Going Dry, And It Might Be Yours Too!

When I first considered taking a break from alcohol, my biggest fear wasn't missing the drink. It was losing myself.Who would I be without alcohol? Would I still be fun? Would people still like me? Would I still be confident enough to walk into a room, dance at weddings, connect with people, and feel like I belonged?Looking back, I realise those fears had very little to do with alcohol and everything to do with identity. In this episode, I explore one of the biggest hidden challenges of going alcohol-free: rediscovering who you really are underneath the persona alcohol creates. I share my own experience, the stories I told myself for years, and why I now believe that finding your authentic self is one of the greatest gifts of this entire journey. What You'll Learn:Why fear of losing your identity keeps so many people stuckHow alcohol creates a version of ourselves that isn't truly authenticThe difference between confidence and alcohol-fuelled confidenceWhy authenticity is one of the greatest gifts of alcohol-free livingHow removing alcohol helps you reconnect with who you really areTimestamps:00:00 – 04:00 My biggest fear about going alcohol-free04:00 – 08:00 The alcohol persona and losing touch with your authentic self08:00 – 12:00 Why we fear being judged, rejected, or left behind12:00 – 17:00 The power of showing up as the real you17:00 – End The treasure waiting on the other side of alcohol-free livingGoing Dry Documentary PremiereJoin us for the first public screening of Going Dry at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival on 8th July 2026 at Cinema Nova, Melbourne. Breaking news.My Dryy adventure is over. After more than four incredible years, the Dryy app and community has come to an end. But this isn't a story about failure. It's a story about impact, courage, learning, and what happens when you dare to take a swing at something that matters. In this episode, I reflect on the journey that Matt Pink and I embarked on together, helping tens of thousands of people transform their relationship with alcohol through the Dryy community.I share why I'm incredibly proud of what we built, the lessons I've learned from entrepreneurship, and why this ending feels more like a beginning. Most importantly, I explore one of the greatest gifts of alcohol-free living: becoming a dreamer of the day. The Doom Loop

What if I told you that almost every reason people drink alcohol is actually created by alcohol itself?Stress. Anxiety. Escapism. Boredom. A powerful catch-22 that keeps millions of people stuck in an endless cycle where alcohol appears to be the solution, while secretly being the cause of the problem.Once you see it, you can't unsee it.This is one of the most important concepts I've ever shared because understanding the doom loop changes everything. What You'll Learn:Why alcohol creates many of the problems it claims to solveThe science behind stress, sleep, and the alcohol anxiety cycleHow the "doom loop" keeps people trapped in unwanted habitsWhy relaxation through alcohol is an illusionHow to break the cycle and build healthier ways to relax and unwindTimestamps:00:00 – 04:00 What is the doom loop and why it matters04:00 – 08:00 The catch-22 that keeps drinkers stuck08:00 – 12:00 How alcohol creates stress while pretending to relieve it12:00 – 16:00 The hidden loops of anxiety, escapism, and boredom16:00 – End Breaking free from the doom loop for goodIf you want to go deeper and actually learn how to rewire your thinking, come and join me at Coach Business School (https://coachbusiness.school/).If you’re curious about becoming a coach, I run a free live workshop where I’ll show you how this all works and how you can turn it into something meaningful and purposeful. This Statement About Alcohol Made Me Angry!

This episode was sparked by something I recently came across that genuinely frustrated me.Not because it was provocative, but because it touched on a belief about alcohol that I think so many of us have accepted without ever stopping to question. The idea got under my skin enough that I felt compelled to unpack it properly.Because when I look back at my own drinking career, I don't see alcohol making me a better version of myself. I see something very different. This is a powerful conversation about identity, authenticity, and becoming the person you were always meant to be. What You'll Learn:Why alcohol can create the illusion of confidence and connectionThe difference between your authentic self and your alcohol-created personaHow alcohol slowly creates the very problems it appears to solveWhy many of us become attached to a version of ourselves that isn't realHow removing alcohol helps you reconnect with your true identityTimestamps:00:00 – 03:00 A belief about alcohol that got under my skin03:00 – 06:00 Confidence, personality, and my early drinking years06:00 – 10:00 The illusion of becoming someone better through alcohol10:00 – 14:00 How alcohol pulls us away from our authentic self14:00 – End Why alcohol-free living helps you become who you really areIf you want to go deeper and actually learn how to rewire your thinking, come and join me at Coach Business School (https://coachbusiness.school/).If you’re curious about becoming a coach, I run a free live workshop where I’ll show you how this all works and how you can turn it into something meaningful and purposeful. 20 Strangers No Alcohol In Ibiza - What Could Go Wrong!

Ibiza. No alcohol. For most people, those two things simply do not belong in the same sentence. But that’s exactly what happened on our recent reinvention retreat, where a group of complete strangers came together in Ibiza without a drop of alcohol. And honestly? It turned into one of the most powerful, connected, joyful experiences I’ve ever been part of.In this episode, I unpack what really happens when people remove alcohol from social situations, retreats, holidays, and connection. Because what I witnessed in Ibiza completely challenged the old belief that alcohol creates fun.I actually think the opposite is true. This episode is about authenticity, connection, energy, and what becomes possible when people stop numbing themselves and start showing up fully as who they really are. What you’ll learn:Why alcohol-free environments create deeper connection and authentic relationshipsWhat really happens when strangers meet without alcohol involvedHow alcohol often creates fake confidence and fake connectionWhy alcohol-free retreats unlock more joy, energy, and transformationThe hidden ways alcohol steals momentum, presence, and real funTimestamps:00:00 – 03:00 Graduation celebrations and heading to Ibiza03:00 – 05:00 My old relationship with Ibiza and alcohol05:00 – 08:00 What happens when strangers connect without drinking08:00 – 11:00 How alcohol would have changed the entire retreat dynamic11:00 – End Why alcohol-free connection is more powerful than everIf you want to go deeper and actually learn how to rewire your thinking, come and join me at Coach Business School (https://coachbusiness.school/).If you’re curious about becoming a coach, I run a free live workshop where I’ll show you how this all works and how you can turn it into something meaningful and purposeful. Let's Find Out Once And For All: Is Not Drinking Boring?

A 17 year old completely destroyed me at a party recently.I told him I hadn’t had a drink for 12 years and he hit me with: “That’s really boring.”Then came the knockout punch: “I bet you’re fun at parties.”Honestly, it made me laugh. But once the dust settled, it got me thinking about just how deeply ingrained our cultural beliefs around alcohol really are. Before he’s even legally allowed to drink, he already believes alcohol equals fun and not drinking equals boring. So in this episode, I decided to properly challenge that idea once and for all.And spoiler alert… I think we’ve got this whole thing completely backwards. What you’ll learn:Why society teaches us that alcohol equals fun from a very young ageThe “bore-off” exercise that completely reframes drinkingHow alcohol quietly creates many of the things we find boring in lifeWhy alcohol-free living creates more energy, joy, confidence, and connectionHow to challenge the beliefs that keep you stuck in the drinking cycleTimestamps:00:00 – 03:00 Graduations, retreats, documentaries, and a huge week ahead03:00 – 05:00 The 17 year old who called me boring05:00 – 08:00 The “bore-off” and redefining what boring really means08:00 – 11:00 Why alcohol creates the very problems it pretends to solve11:00 – End Why alcohol-free living is actually the most exciting adventure of allIf you want to go deeper and actually learn how to rewire your thinking, come and join me at Coach Business School (https://coachbusiness.school/).If you’re curious about becoming a coach, I run a free live workshop where I’ll show you how this all works and how you can turn it into something meaningful and purposeful. Is Drinking Fun Or Not? Let's Solve This Once And For All!

In this episode, I tackle one of the biggest beliefs that keeps people stuck in the drinking cycle: the idea that alcohol is fun. It’s a story most of us have told ourselves for years, but is it actually true?I break this down from every angle, exploring how our brains create and reinforce this belief, even when our lived experience tells a very different story. This is about getting honest, challenging the narrative, and seeing alcohol for what it really is.Once you start to question the idea that drinking equals fun, everything begins to shift. Because when that belief falls apart, so does the hold alcohol has over you.If you’ve ever felt torn between knowing alcohol isn’t serving you and still believing it’s “fun,” this episode will help you cut through the noise and see the truth clearly. What you’ll learn:Why “alcohol is fun” is one of the most powerful limiting beliefsHow confirmation bias keeps you stuck in old storiesThe truth about what drinking actually feels like (during and after)Why the “great night” story is often a cultural illusionHow to redefine real fun in a way that actually serves your lifeTimestamps:00:00 – 02:00 The big question: is drinking actually fun?02:00 – 05:00 How the “alcohol is fun” story is created and reinforced05:00 – 08:00 Challenging the belief and seeing the truth08:00 – 11:00 The “great night” illusion and cultural conditioning11:00 – End Redefining real fun and what actually makes life enjoyableIf you want to go deeper and actually learn how to rewire your thinking, come and join me at Coach Business School (https://coachbusiness.school/).If you’re curious about becoming a coach, I run a free live workshop where I’ll show you how this all works and how you can turn it into something meaningful and purposeful. In this episode, I dive into the real science of change and why slip-ups are not something to fear, but something to expect. Why You Save A Fortune When You Stop Drinking & How To Invest It

There is a disconnect between investments of true value and the material.I was guilty of spending more on material possessions than on my development. I was more concerned with servicing my car than my mind and body. Then I invested in my first-ever book on self-development, Awaken the Giant Within by Anthony Robbins, and my life changed.Just imagine investing in a book that fundamentally changes the way you think, behave and feel. In my opinion, books are the most wonderful value of all development tools. As I finished the book, I realised that investing in my personal growth was the best investment I could ever make for myself and my family. With a mindset that personal growth is of critical importance, I started to find the courses, books and learning that transformed my life.Over the coming years, I took as many courses as I could afford, and each one taught me something that I still use today - this is a great return on investment you will never find in a bank. The self-development genius Jim Rohn sums it up beautifully, “Work harder on yourself than you do on your job. If you work hard on your job, you can make a living. If you work hard on yourself, you can make a fortune."So whether you pick up a book or take a course, put self-development at the top of your list, because it might prove the best investment you ever make.Your coach AndyPS - The best investment I EVER made into my life, career and happiness was to become a coach 12 years ago. LIVE Episode: Drop The Drinking Stories From The Past & Transform Your Future

Today I launch a brand new course:The Coach MBA (Marketing & Business training for Accredited coaches).Last week I was with my old broking firm in the city of london. And it hit me.How wonderfully things have changed. It was not long ago I told myself I was a drinker and I might as well just get on with it.When I asked my old boss if the company would pay for my MBA.He retorted, “How the F will that make me any more money?”And followed it up with,“Don’t try and be someone you are not!”He was also saying you are a drinking, it’s what you are good at. People like you because you drink. You’re great fun and an entertainer. They don’t care about your education! My boss was both right and terrbilly wrong. He was right when he said don’t try to be someone you are not.But he had mistaken me for the person that alcohol created. The real me, the authentic me, was bursting to be free. The real me want to learn, grow and develop!I quit that job.Everyone said I was mad.But I knew it had to be done. And I trained as a coach.Went back to university part-time.Quit alcohol.Wrote a book…And the rest as they say is now history. Here is the point:Life is one massive self-fulfilling prophecy, and the stories we tell about ourselves always come true. For decades, I told a story that I was a drinker. It was just who I was. It did not matter that my health was suffering, I was overweight, unfit, unhealthy, unmotivated and at times unhappy. This was my story and I was sticking to it. I, along with too many people, had fallen into the trap and believed that who I was is who I will always be.When we look into the past for clues of how to behave in the present, we create a litany of similar behaviours. So you quickly get trapped in a loop.Like Sisyphus, cursed by the Gods to forever push a boulder to the top of a hill, only to see it roll back down again. ‘I haven’t done this before, I failed at something similar, I could never give up the booze, this always happens to me, I am going to give up trying to give up, I can’t do this, I am rubbish at this type of thing….. The list goes on and on.Our past story keeps repeating in the present, which paves the way for our future.Unless you wake up.And realise that your future is unwritten.Today, you can write a new story. The story of the life you always wanted to leadThe person you always wanted to become.Within a few days or weeks, this will become your past! And you will have transformed your future. It is so simple.Don’t look back to decide your future. Write a new story in the present until your past reflects the future you desires!Let me ask you a question - is it time you told a different story? And what is the story you are going to tell today?Your Coach,AndyPS - One of the best ways to tell a new story is to come and learn with me for the next 6 months and become a coach. During this time, you can rewrite the present and create the future you always dreamed! All you need to do is be brave enough to take action. Click here to find out how I can help you become a coach.PPS - Already a coach? You have two options:Take my coaching specialism in Alcohol-Free Performance CoachingJoin my Coach Business School and take my world-class Coach MBA!

Stop Drinking & Find A Little Paradise!

After recently re-watching the amazing, yet slightly unnerving, Gene Wilder in the classic film, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.I could not get the following verse from the song ‘Pure Imagination’ out of my head:‘If you want to see paradise, just take a look around and view it’’ Sometimes enlightenment comes from the strangest places, and this sentence really struck a chord. And following my long Camino walk I came to the realisation that paradise is very often all around us, we just have to open our eyes and see it. The problem with modern living is that we are in such a rush to be busy in our busy lives that we miss the paradise right under our noses. Lives run at warp speed, and whilst we chase emails, social media and 21st century living there is a danger that we miss so many of life’s great moments. When you throw in a few hangovers, our focus narrows further. Life becomes a ball of stress, worry and mental distraction that drags away from the beauty of the present moment. One of the great benefits of going alcohol free is that you regain some time and space back to slow down a little. By slowing down I don’t mean dropping out or losing your edge, I simply mean staying present in the moment and enjoying whats happening around you. On a personal note, once I stopped drinking I regained the motivation to explore my inner world and discovered mindfulness meditation. The ancient practice is such a wonderful skill to enhance ones ability to stay present and enjoy life in the moment. Without sounding overdramatic, my world started to open up in ways I had never experienced before.A classic example was my walk to work. Like most of us, I had walked this walk hundreds of times with the sole purpose of getting from A to B. My head was full of worries, concerns or to-dos for the day ahead. I was running on autopilot, the lights were on, but nobody was home. I was a perfect city worker clone. Running in the rat race of life. But one day, as my mindfulness practice developed, I did something crazy - I lifted my head, slowed my walk and looked around me. I opened my ears to the noise of the city and discovered that I could hear birds singing. I noticed flowers that I never knew existed in tiny green oasis that had previously slipped under my radar. It was as if I was viewing this same old route for the very first time. It was simple, I was learning to stay in the present moment. And right in this moment, I did not have to worry or threat about the day ahead. I could deal with these concerns when the time came.  Right now on my short walk to the office I could simply breathe deep and enjoy life. This was such a liberating feeling, as well as a powerful indicator of positive change in my life. Mindfulness was starting to make sense to me. It was not about sitting around doing nothing, trying to clear your mind all day. It was actually about building skills to notice the world around you in the moment and learning to enjoy its beauty without mental distraction about the past or future. Learning to cultivate a slower, more mindful pace will start to reveal little moments of paradise that were previously unnoticed. Perhaps you will find them in the beauty of nature, the taste of a home-cooked meal, the eyes of your loving partner, the softness of your child’s hand in yours. These are little moments of paradise on earth, right under your nose, all you have to do is look around and view them. Here’s an idea - today, try to spend just a few minutes totally present in the moment. You can take any situation, the coffee shop, the chat with your child after school, the walk outside - whatever it is, just slow down, stay present, aim to keep your mind from chasing worries into the past or future and simply stay with the moment. Breathe deeply as you do and see if you can find your little bit of paradise.Your coach Andy PS - FREE workshop tonight! Come and join me and learn all about coaching and how it can provide the mearningful learning you seek. 50% of our coaches take our course for self-development and career advancement! The other 50% to become part-time or full time coaches! So we have you covered! Click here to join me tonight on Zoom

Why We Grow More By Getting It Wrong That By Getting It Right!

It is great to be back, buzzing around my local woods and london!I was re-reading a book on my way to meet a coaching client. And a line struck me“We grow more by getting it wrong than by getting it right.” Richard RhorWhat a great truth. This message appears throughout the ages of ages within the great texts, myths and stories. There is a fall before the rise. The stumble before the stand. The death and renewal story, the Phoenix from the flames and night into day. The signs are there, yet, too many run from failure, too many stay small, hiding in the comfort zone of life.A slip is critical to our growth. And I am fortunate enough to witness the falling, to rise on a daily basis, through my mission to help people transform their relationship with alcohol. This is why the story is continually told. You can’t choose your falling, it’s something that happens to you, and it hurts. The job loss, break up, addiction, problem, illness, or bereavement are a few of many examples. I have witnessed the fall and rise so many times that it all makes sense. When life puts you on your backside, you uncover your mortality. The shortness of life is revealed along with a crack in the ego that allows you to see with new eyes. As the genius, Leonard Cohen, sings,” There is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in.” Old ways of behaving appear trivial, and you hear a new story, one that gifts you the space to change, grow and learn. A glimpse of your true, authentic self is revealed, which is life's greatest discovery.Problems are a gift that helps us to grow. They don’t feel like this at the time, and if you’re in the midst of what feels like a terrible burden, perhaps this is your opportunity to rise and come back stronger, to experience the true meaning of your life. But during the fall, you only feel the pain; it's not until you rise that the significance of the fall is revealed. You will find new eyes to view your world. To embrace and savour what’s truly important. So while it might hurt right now, just imagine that you are on the verge of something special. Your biggest obstacle is a chance for victory. As Marcus Aurelius points out,"The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way." AndyPS - I am biased, but one of the greatest ways to turn your defeats into victories is to learn how to coach and provide help to those who are facing the same struggles you have now overcome. This is your fast pass to a life of contribution. All you need to do is be brave enough to take action. Click here to find out how I can help you become a coach.PPS - Already a coach? You have two options:Take my coaching specialism in Alcohol-Free Performance CoachingJoin my Coach Business School and take my world-class Coach MBA!

    Why Moderation Doesn't Work!

Here is a great question for you, “What career would allow you to give back, leverage your years of work and life experience, help you make a difference and help you generate income to still do all those “nice” things?”I have the answer, “Learning to coach others!!”And all you have to do is join me in July and I will guide you from beginner to elite level coach in just 6 months! PPS - Already a coach? You have two options:Take my coaching specialism in Alcohol-Free Performance CoachingJoin my Coach Business School and take my world-class Coach MBA!As I crossed the 500-mile Camino finish line, it was straight to my next adventure. My best man’s 50th in Ibiza. You might argue from one spiritual experience to another!HOWEVER!The first stop was to view our re-invention retreat venue! The retreat is designed to help people rediscover who they are and redesign what’s next.(As this is my first EVER retreat, it’s exclusive to my coaches, but I will roll this out to everyone soon.)The retreat venue is off the charts!!! (See photo above)We are all buzzing.Next, the party began. And I had the best time.My best friends, Tara, loads of laughs, great food, and brilliant company. But then something happened that I now regret. After the most wonderful day on a boat, and lunch with our feet in the sand at Juan Y Andrea in Formentera.Things could not have been better.Until the lads mentioned going to see DJ Calvin Harris at Ushuaïa.At this point, I made a classic mistake.I asked a rubbish question, which cascaded into more rubbish questionsWhich resulted in lots of rubbish answers.“Would I enjoy Calvin Harris if I were not drinking?”“Would there be too many people?”“I used to drink to numb out all the noise”...The answer in my head, which was wrecked by the “will I, won’t I scenario”, responded with “No I won’t enjoy it”So I didn’t go.What I needed in that moment was a great coach to snap me out of the limiting thinking state I had gotten myself into!!!When I woke the next morning. Fresh and in a different state the question was so obvious!!“How can I go to Calvin Harris and LOVE IT because I’m alcohol-free!”The answer to this question would have been, “LET’S DO THIS!”Then I felt the pang of regret.I missed out a great opportunity to test my alcohol-free powers!Lesson learned. And hopefully this is refreshing that 11 years in, I am still making mistakes and learning about my personal alcohol-free adventure! This experience also reminded me of why moderation is a disaster for most people!I will dig much deeper into this important topic on this weeks Alcohol-Free Advantage Podcast. The learn from today is in quote form from Anthony Robbins“The quality of your questions will dictate the quality of your life!”Ask great questions, lead a great life!Your coach Andy

I was not going to talk about the spiritual adventure of going alcohol-free but...

If you want to come on the adventure of a lifetime.I am enrolling for my July life/executive/alcohol-free coach training. I would love for you to join me. This is not just a course, it is a transformative experience of insight, action and contribution. You don’t need any experience; all you need to do is show up, and I will take care of the rest.Click here for more details - www.andyramagetraining.com This morning at 7:30 am I began walking. Twelve hours and 28 miles later, at 7:30 pm, I arrived at my destination!Santiago de Compostela. My Camino walking adventure complete. As I stumbled into the square in front of the Cathedral, I expected trumpets to sound, tears to fill my eyes and the crowds to cheer me on as I moon walked over the finish line. But there was none of this.Just the blissful joy of having completed a real adventure.A goal that I first wrote down 6 years ago! As I sat (collapsed) on the cobblestones in front of the Cathedral, I smiled deeply. And remembered the incredible truth about goals.Lasting joy hides in the struggle to reach our goals, not in the end result. And every step of this adventure was joyful. There are so many big takeaways. In this week's episode of the Alcohol-Free Advantage Podcast, I am going to talk about something very personal that I don’t ever really talk about. And that I had not planned to talk about - The spiritual side of the Camino. And why a personal life philosophy is vital to a life of purpose. In my opinion. If this sounds interesting, please click the link below to listen in, or follow the podcast wherever you get your podcasts from.Your CoachAndy
